well I clicked on this thread because i thought it was going to be about what to do if you are worried about not being able to burn cals if you havent managed to gain any extra muscle while in weight loss. Darn it.

I just found out I LOST 3 lbs of muscle this month and have been crying my eyes out (yes leiela crying how ironic eh). I am hoping for a body comp test malfunction...I know they are not 100% accurate and I exercised beforehand which you are not supposed to do...but I am worried about my poor muscle mass. Can I get that 3 lbs of muscle back while still losing weight?? And why oh why would my body use muscle when I have a full 140 lbs of FAT for it to draw from for gosh sakes?!? I need all my muscle. I eat plenty of protein and do not have a huge daily calorie defecit...so why would it take my muscle??

Sorry to OP for thread-jacking, I figured it's sort of on-topic :)

I also know guys who put on 10lbs of muscle in two weeks. 'course, the steroids played merry hell with their endocrine systems and when they cycled off they didn't retain all of their muscle gains.

Those sorts of results can only come from a needle, or from being 14-16 years old, having a competent strength coach and eating everything that doesn't run away fast enough. Since you say the guys hadn't lifted in years, I assume they weren't teenagers in a growth spurt.

Drug use does happen, but I really don't think holding out results that are only possible through artificial enhachements as normal helps anyone have a realistic idea of how their body will respond.

One of the reasons why you're not supposed to exercise beforehand is because dehydration and electrolyte depletion can change the conductivity of your muscle and give you very weird readings like that. I think redoing the test without exercising beforehand will give you better news :)

Ooooh body composition test where did you get one of thoses id lose to know how much of my body was muscle or fat?? (mostly fat in my case)

They do it at my gym...they have a scale with some kind of sensors on it hooked up to a computer, it shoots an electrode or some such thnig up into your body through your feet, and figures out how much of you is lean mass (muscle bones organs) and how much of you is fat, by how much resistance there is or something. I am not sure how it works but they give a computer read-out that has lean %, fat %, lbs, and hydration. It's pretty cool but apparently not an exact science! I think most gyms have them now.

I really liked getting it because I found out that 140 lbs of my body is lean stuff. Cool! It made me realize I will never be a 120 lb skinny minnie, I'd be past anorexic for that...that a more reasonable goal for me would be 140 + 20% body fat = 168. Which is why I am scared of losing the muscle, I want to lose the fat not the lean, and plus I need it to help burn fat!

Argh right i did one of thoses gym scale thingys the other day it told me i had 30lb's of fat which at the time i thought was pretty depressing.

not sure how accurate they are though *shrug* i'd still rather have a set of calipers but my gym don't seem to do them :(

My aim is to get to around 20% body fat ... see how i feel then and to do this i'd set myself a goal to lose 10lbs.

Anyway i managed to glean of of the info that perhaps the reason im not losing much weight is because i don't have that much fat to lose and that if i should only need lose about 5-6lbs to reach my 20% body fat goal.

Tbh though i've seen alot of picky's recently and im thinking i want the head down to about 16-18% body fat to achive the look i want

but hey us women are never happy lol.

NO NO NO!

lol!

its not that i dont want muscle mass!

I just dont want to gain muscle until i hit a certain point!!!!!

Muscle weighs more than FAT!

if i gain that then i gain weight which i dont want to do until i hit 140!
