Frame Size?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi

I just did the frame size test - and I've come out as a small frame, as my fingers overlap a bit when I wrap them around my wrist (I'm 5'9").

What does this mean?  Does it mean that I will look chubbier than other people my same height and weight who have larger frames?  Or does it mean I will look smaller?

I feel I wear quite a large size for my weight (I weight about 168, I'm 5'9" and I wear size 14).  I often see people who weigh a lot more saying they wear the same size...so not sure if frame size impacts this too.

just wondering...  thanks!

There are several ways of measuring your 'frame',

In my friends biology class they worked it out by measuring the length of your arm from your shoulder to your elbow, and comparing that with the width of your shoulders, if your arm is longer, small frame, if they are the same, medium frame and f your shoulders are bigger, big frame.

On the above measurement I have a big frame, when I do the thumb and middle finger I am small framed. Remember, they are just tools to help you work with your body, not hard and fast rules! A better thing to look at, for weightloss/fitness might be your body type, meso-, endo- or ecto- morph.

I am 5'7, I can overlap my fingers but I don't think I am small boned, I would say medium as I have to almost force my fingers around. When I am 165-170 I am a size 12, large in clothes like Gap, Old Navy etc but an XL, 13/14 in cheap stores. When I am 150-160 I am a size 10 and a medium in good stores. I have been as low as 135 and still couldn't get any smaller than a size 8/9 so who knows.... I am happy with the way I look at 150, only 15 lbs more to go! I think my medium frame allows me to carry my weight well. It drives me nuts when obviously overweight people of similar height tell me that they weigh less than me, I guess the have no muscle and light bones.

I'm medium frame 5'9" and weight 151 today....I wear a size 8 or 10.  So, that being said the frame size really makes a difference in how you carry your weight.  When I weighed 165lbs I wore a 10 or a 12.  If I were small framed I would of probably wore a bigger size.

k- loo im 5'8'' - 5'9'' and a small frame.

i weigh 132 and im a size 12. how can you weigh 151 and be a size 8 or 10 thats so unfair im convinced it must be because you have a medium frame. its really annoying. so really i should be thinner if i had a bigger frame? im confused!

I suppose then that would go to prove that frame size makes a bigger difference then I thought!  When I weighed 135....back in High School, I seriously was like a size 4...maybe smaller, but there wasn't much too me!  My favorite all time weight was 143...which is my goal and that should put me at about a 6.  I think I carry a lot of muscle as well, especially in my legs so I suppose that accounts for my size and weight too.  So on top of frame size you should also factor that aspect in since muscle appears smaller then fatty tissue.

The legs are full of good muscle tissue. 5 pounds of fat is 5 pounds of fat. 5 pound of lean muscle is 5 pounds of lean muscle.. I can get into 14 because I've worked on the levels of fat on my thighs, and still working on them..

Bottom heavy people have the hardest time trying to find jeans.. And if you have a apple bottom. Like I do.. Hell... You can be in the fitting room trying on jeans for an hour trying to find the right fit. I'm bottom heavy, and I've always had to go up a size to get the jeans to make it up past my tights- even as a teen. I had to do it.  My mom would always go on and on about.. Why I got her genes and not my father's genes.. Long and lean.. When I was a size 22 I had to go for a 24 to make it over the thighs... That can be hell on a person who is bottom heavy. These frame sizes are crazy issues.

edit: I don't think this test matter's at all.. I told my doctor I was big boned, and he said to me.. Where did you get that idea from. Fat is fat, and your muscle is trapped under there somewhere... Eat right and workout. You are not big boned. That excuse I used went right out the window.

I honestly dont get that finger/thumb test... When I was overweight, my fingers didnt touch.  Now they overlap tons... So did my bones shrink?  Not likely.  Did I have obese fingers?  Possible, but not overly likely.

I personally dont think this is the most accurate test for frame size.  Incidently, I am 5'10" and 145-ish.  I started at 215.  I wear a size 4 or 5 now.  So, any ideas?

I would say you are medium frame.  When I weight around 145-ish I'm that about that size...man I wish I could get back there!  Is 8lbs too much to ask for??

I am large frame, 5'6-5'7 and when i was a size 14 i weighed around 220. I am fat all over. Now i weight ten lbs more than my friend and she is small frame and she wears size 26 and i am a size 20. She hates it cuz she says it's not fair cuz i weigh more than her and i look/am skinnier than her.

Well, you carry your weight well.. That's good... I still think this frame size is crap... It's crazy!

ok well here's something else for you guys to ponder over...what exactly is the difference between a junior size and women's size?  misses size?  for me personally i can take an 11 or 13 and an xl in a shirt in juniors...but in misses sizes i take an 8 or a 10 and a med or large...i'm 5'8 and weigh 140lbs...i look emaciated on the top but i have to if i want to look normal on the bottom..(i'm a pear)   *sigh*  lol
