I am 43 years old. I just joined on May 4th, and I love this site. I would love to join you, I have days that I can really use support. I started going to the gym three weeks ago today and counting calories on the 4th. I do not have to much weight to lose, which makes it hard to see the beginning results. I must say I got very discouraged the first 2 weeks. I went from no exercise and eating fried foods and snacks everyday, to 1200 calories a day and going to the gym about 5 times a week. First 2 weeks my weight stayed the same or went up and down a couple of onces here and there. Yesterday and today the scale showed a loss of 2.8 lbs, I hope it stays there and doesn't go back up. So I had a start that was discouraging, but am a happy dieter today. I hope you are still looking for buddies to join in your weight loss journey, as I could also use the help. I will add you to my friends list now, I'm not sure if that will put me on your list as well or not. So if you don't see my name on your list, please add me. Happy dieting! Are you going to have a weigh in day every week? I weigh myself every morning, but it might be fun to see results every week. |

Hi Leila, Yep - if you are into frantic sweaty kicking/punching stuff you'll love it You're right about the moves - it did take a while to learn the moves in the cardio tapes cos they're faster paced but I got there eventually. As for being vegan, well I went vegetarian about 25 years ago (no meat, no fish) but always wanted to go vegan - just didn't think I could do it. But 2 years ago I just decided it was silly to wait so I then gave up milk, cheese, eggs and honey (I do still eat fruit) and haven't really missed it at all. I'm eating things I never tried before and that is fun - I love experimenting in the kitchen and I feel great. You're from Russian hey! Wow! I'm from tiny little England!! Where is everyone else from?? |

Hi Nursescarels, That's great to have you with us. We all need support on our journey to our goal weight. I will add you on mine if you are not there. I am going to weigh every other week, so i am planning to do this next Friday. I have scale in my bathroom, so it is addicting and i try to stop doing this every day:-) I joined on May 8 and actually i dont' expect results just yet. I eat 1700 cal a day eating 3 meals and 2 -3 snacks. It is getting easier every day to be in this calory range because i started to plan my meals, a least lunch and dinner. I feel much better now comparing how i felt before i started to count calories. have a nice day Leila |

Hi VM, Yees, i love to sweaty stuff. I used to do aerobics back home for 15 years and that is something that i can't find here. It was combination of cardio and strength exercises. We were sweating so much and could hardly walk after the class but it was great. That is so impressive that you could do this, i don't think that i would be able to live without cheese, milk or eggs. I love cooking and trying new foods too. Wow, you are from England, beautiful country with so much history. I have read a lot about England, i went to special school back home where English was one of the main subjects. There was history of England, language history, literature, traditions. Leila |

Thank you VM and Leila. I must admit I have tried to join a couple of new forums, but didn't really get many replies. I am thrilled that you both responded to my message. I am looking forward to getting to know you both. Leila every other Friday sounds good for a weigh in. I can't help it, I find myself jumping on the scale every morning. Like I said it was very discouraging until the last 2 days lol Have a great day. VM hope to chat with you soon as well. Thanks again, lets do this together. |

Hi Ladies, I am 48 years old, 5'10". I would like to lose about 20 lbs that I gained when I quit smoking 4 months ago. Well, actually I probably gained 15 lbs from that, but I would like to go the add'l 5 also. I am into the whole Harley, motorcycle riding thing with my husband, so I would like to be in better shape for all of those motorcycle rallies that we go to. You are so right about the age thing. It is alot harder now to lose the weight than it was before. I like to exercise, I know that sounds little wierd, but I really do consider it my hobby. I am looking forward to getting, and maybe even getting, a little motivation out here. I am finding that I enjoy the site itself. I have found every item that I have been searching for so far as far as calories. The site says that I should be eating 1750 cals a day, however, I am going 1500, which will give me some room at the end of the day, which by the way, is my worst time. I hope to become part of your group here, I think that we will have more in common than I would with the 20 somethings or even 30 somethings. Harleygirl47 |

Hi harleygirl 47 Welcome to our group !!! That's why i decided to start this, because 20 and 30 years old girls won't understand us. For them everything i much easier. I should be eating 1700 calories a day and i do it without problem now. But i found out that if you don't have calories left after your last meal, it keeps you from eating. All you can do is drink water, that we actually need to do. For me it worked pretty good, maybe will be good for somebody else too. Leila |

Hi Leila, I find that around 7:30 every night, I allow myself a little snack, but if I go over 1500 during the day. . . . .I won't. If I don't have my snack, then all the better. I do drink my water thru out the day though, it is really an important part of my whole daily routine. One of my biggest downfalls, is the couple of drinks on Saturday night. I have however, switched from beer to vodka, fresca and diet cranberry. So I feel good about that. Sunday's are my day off, no matter what. I don't go crazy or anythin, but I will have something that is off limits if it shows itself. If I didn't, then none of this stuff would work for me. I was doing really good with the whole lifestyle change until I quit smoking. But I am very proud of myself for doing that. Anybody else on board with the take one day off method?

Hi Harleygirl, I know that beer has a lot of calories and it's better to drink vodka. I actually like vodka with cranberry juice myself :-) but not know. I want to start loosing weight and maybe i will let myself to celebrate my little victory later. I know that many people believe in this"cheat days". That's great that you quit smoking, i know it is hard. I never smoke in my life, but my husband quit smoking 3 years ago after smoking for 24 years. It was not easy but he did it . You have a strong willpower if you did it. I have a problem with drinking water, don't drink enough during the day. But i try to solve this problem.

Hi everyone! Wow - what a difference a day makes! Lots of new people, all going thru the same thing. I'm from Orlando, and live about 5 minutes from Disney World, so when we all get to our goal weights, we can all go to Disney World! Yay! This thread has helped me alot; I drank a lot more water today, and did better staying away from my daughters snacks. Couldn't make it to the gym, though -just too busy. And I stayed on target with my 1300 calories (I went over yesterday and was very aware of that today). Leila, I think you're on to something weighing yourself every other week. I think I'll start doing that too, since the weight seems to be coming off more slowly than it used to. You guys have me so motivated with your crazy exercise schedules, I'm going to go to a kickboxing class on Sunday, which I haven't done since the baby! And I'll weigh myself on Monday and "confess" to everyone the number. Liz said she'd had real success on the cheaters diet - has anyone else tried that? Besides Veganmama, that is :-) Alison |

Hi to all plus welcome to Harleygirl!! Have I missed anyone???? (worried now in case I've missed anyone out!!) Well, I've done my 40 mins weights and 20 mins cardio. Boy did I sweat!! I weigh myself once a week on Fridays as well but my weight has been stuck for a while so I focus more on the tape measure. As for the cheaters diet - what is that? No Alison I have never tried it - I think you have me confused with someone else on this thread?? {confused} Do you mean having one day off where you eat more calories than other days and doing this every 2-3 weeks? If so, I was talking to someone on another thread about this and she recommended it as a technique to boost your metabolism. I have also checked out zig zagging. Both sound appealing.

Hi everybody, I didn't make it to the gym last night, was so tired after crazy day at work. But i am going to the gym now for an hour at least. You know, having you all, makes a big difference, i agree with Alison. When i will weight myself next Friday i will share the results with you. I was good yesterday, was right on my amount of calories, 1700 and had a lot of water too. Actually when i was on South Beach Diet, they had the same thing, cheaters day. One day during the week, you could it whatever you wanted. I never used such days, don't think that i really need those. I don't like fast food, no Mc.Donald's, Wendy's , Burger King. I like to have sometimes a piece of Dominos thin crust pizza. I have a book, that actually really helps me, " Eat this not that" - the no-diet weight loss solution. The book goes through all kinds of food and drinks, famous restaurants, fast food places and just tells you what is better to eat, what has less calories. And it says that you can eat 2 slices of Dominos thin crust pizza , it's 300 cal and don't eat Pizza Hut Pizza, it's 510 cal two pieces. Or Krispy Kreme , you can eat Whole Wheat Glazed doughnut 180 cal, not Glazed Blueberry Cake Doughnut 330 cal. Great book actually, i like it. have a great weekend Leila |

Good morning everyone. Wow we are going to do good, everyone seems ready for the support of others. We are all around the same age and have about the same weight lose goal. I made a boo-boo yesterday ouch. Went out to eat for the first time, since I started counting calorie on May 4th. I knew I was going out so I did a good workout in the morning. I decide what I would get before I went, after looking at the calories on the outback steakhouse web site. My plan was to have a great tasty meal and still have a 500 cal deficit for the day. After planning this meal, the deal was I would order the rib eye steak, sweet potato and the green beans. The rib eye was 14 oz at 730 cal, so I was going to eat half of it and I would still have my 500 or more deficit. Well, the meal was yummy, but I didn't stop eating at half, I ate the WHOLE thing. When I came home and recorded everything, it didn't end up to bad, as I had only eaten 377 cal for the day prior to going out.( thank God I did a good work out) Bottom line is I ended up with a deficit of 350 cal for the day. I know I need 500 a day to lose a lb for the week, so I'm hoping that if I make it up in the next couple of days, that will work. SORRY this post is so long, but I thought my new found friends would forgive me for venting. Saddest part is I loved the meal, but feel so guilty now. Going to wor out, talk to you guys soon. |

Good Morning Everybody, Rise and shine!!! Another new day!!!! If you are referring to my Sunday off as being the cheaters diet, this is what it is. I do absolutely fantastic during the week and for the most part on Saturday too. But, on Sunday, that is the day that I get to spend the whole day with my husband. Whether we are out riding on the motorcycle or just staying home and working in the yard or house, I might have something that is not so good for you. But, it has to be something that you would have eaten before you changed your lifestyle. Wahla!!! Instant gratification, and I am set for the rest of the week. I don't go crazy or anything like that. I mean, I don't wake up and start bingeing. If and only if, something presents itself, something that I would not eat during the week, I'll go for it. I wasn't aware that there was a name for it. I'm sure that I read it somewhere. One thing that I have learned to do is not call what I'm doing a diet. I am 48 years old and I plan on eating the "healthy way" (basically the pyramid) for the rest of my life. This way when I do something really stupid, like eat something that I'm not supposed to be eating, and usually too much of it, getting back to normal is the healthy way, not " I have to get back on my diet". For instance, when I quit smoking and I ate entirely too much, my thoughts weren't, oh no, I have to go on a diet again, instead I thought, ok that is enough, back to normal. This way normal is not the enemy. Sorry, I'm probably running on and on. Hope it helps just one person change their way of thinking. |

Good morning everybody!!! I started day really good, i spend an hour and a half on treadmill walking uphill. I was sweating a lot :-) but i felt really good after that. After that i had a good breakfast with Quaker's old fashioned oats and blueberries, strawberries. Of course i couldn't miss my cup of coffee. I know, Nursescarels, Outback is one of my favourite places too, but their food is really high on calories. I have been there last week and they has special who watches calories,so at the end it was not so bad, it was less than 400 calories. Actually i when i go out, i order grilled fish, or chicken and that works for me. I agree with you, harleygirl, i don't call what i am doing now dieting because it is not. It is just different way to look at the food and different way of eating and it will stay for me the same, even when i will loose the weight i want . have a good day |
