| Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms! | ||
| May 06 2008 16:01 | ||
I think that us moms who breastfeed just cannot compare ourselves to everyone else - except myabe those that are pregnant! i try to focus on others and there calories and goals but mine just dont compare-- therefor i think we need our own weigh in group!! im a mom to a 2 yr old and a five month old i am 5'4 - 24 years old starting weight-185 back from january current -161.4 goal -135 i weigh in on tuesdays- but heck as long as we post are weights on whichever day we can support one another! i think this will be fun- we can compare our excerise rather then to peep who workout vigorously since we have to keep our milk supply too! What's your stats?? |

So since I started this group on the 13th, I have lost 3 lbs. I have really tried to remember everytime I get hungry or feel the need to eat, how upset I get when I get dressed everyday. Still can't wear anything from before I got pregnant. I took my pregnancy for granted, being able to eat anything and everything but gaining 60lbs in the end. With my Crohn's disease, I would usually get a belly ache after eating anything so I never ate much, or I could just eat all the unhealthy things in the world and not gain a pound. Things are a little different now though. I started the Special K diet yesterday, so we'll see how that goes. I think I will definately have to eat more than recommended or my milk production might seriously decrease. Does anyone know about taking supplements while breastfeeding? I was curious about taking Q-10 or something that might help with tightening this flabby skin I have now. I don't want to lose a bunch of weight and be left with rolls of skin. |

wooohoooo, I think I've lost 5 lbs. so thrilled! though my nutrition expert said the 1st go you lose a lot and it really slows down afterwards. Anyway, it's just a start.. Anoxa, know what??I was just wondering about that too. My baby is on solids too, so I think I don't need as many calories as moms with LO's less than 6 months. Or rather, I never needed them ever. sigh! yes, weird as it may sound, I think I didn't need extra calories to breastfeed in the first place. Just so you know, the weight I've put was mostly postpartum weight and not baby weight. sniff sniff !!! ok probably its genetics, my mom told me she gained weight with breastfeeding and once she stopped her weight really went down on its own. weird, huh???!!! |

Hey everyone! Just checking in! I wish I could tell you how much I have lost but alas, I don't actually have a scale. I just weigh myself when I take my girl in for her monthly doctor appointments. Not ideal, but I don't mind too much. I am so excited to be losing weight, but more exciting that that is that I actually feel in control of what I am eating. I have struggled with overeating for as long as I can remember. After starting CC and really working hard, I don't think about food as much anymore. And its no big deal for me to say no to all those delicious junk foods. This is huge for me. I am thankful. kgrace81, That's great that you have lost three pounds! Stay encouraged, it is going to take time to get back to 115 but its absolutely possible. About your new diet...go the weight loss form and search for Special K Diet. There is an interesting thread there you should check out. I know you mentioned you are struggling wanting to keep breastfeeding and I encourage you to not give up! It is so good for your baby and so good for you. Those extra calories you burn making milk will help you in your weight loss. How many calories a day are you eating and what do you usually eat?

hello girls ~ I'll join in as I've been thinking about a nursing weightloss thread myself! I'm Stephanie and I'm 31... My little nursling is Anna, now 3 1/2 months old. She was born January 28th. I've solely nursed her so far and she's gaining well, too. We also have five older children (3g, 6g, 7g, 8b, 9b) - non-nursing now! haha Before starting our family I was just a little overweight (size 12 vs ideal 9/10). Then I gained to an 18 w/ our first, never have gone below that yet, and even fluctuated all the way up to a 24W at one point. On Anna's birth day I weighed 282.5. She was 8.6. As of today I'm a size 18 reg again and weighed in at 233lbs this morning. My goal weight is about 140, size 9/10. I count calories and get in whatever extra activity I can each day/week. Currently I do around 1900 cal/day and then rotate every 4-6 days, doing 2300-2500 that day. Glad to be on this thread ~ ~ Steph |

thank you shauna ~ I just meant boy and girl of the ages.. 2 boys, then 4 girls ! Yep, they keep me busy.. we try to live a pretty simple lifestyle, too, though so it helps with not having sports or another extracurricular event going every season. In fact, I can't *wait* for school to end because we don't anything scheduled in summertime except church on Sunday mornings! I'm a housewife and love it! I just wish I weren't so "domestically challenged" in my housekeeping! lol
It's also helped me become lazier and eat more, too, though. So I'm trying to stay more active with the kids so I'm not just grazing all day and eating their few leftover pieces of chicken nuggets or what have you.. I'm glad to be on this thread..... feels comfy knowing there are other leaking and weight-losing mothers out there to chat with haha :) |

I would love to join this group as well.......... I am a 37 year old mom to a two year old little girl and a 2 1/2 month old little boy. (Alivia and Aiden) I just returned back to work on Tuesday. I am pumping 3 times a day trying to keep up my milk supply so I can send it to daycare with him. He nurses about every 3 hours day and night. Needless to say exhustion is just around the corner. I never lost my baby weight from when I was a baby I think, and want to really work on getting healthy so I can see my children grow up, this is the first time I have really been totally commited to doing this not just for me but for my children as well. I am looking at a total over all weight lose of about 100 pounds, and this is just day one for me, so wish me luck and good luck to all of you. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Welcome ~
I'm doing pretty good this week. I've spent the last 6 weeks specifically counting calories and trying to gauge what I need to lose extra weight and also have enough milk supply for Anna and it's been good so far. Losing weight is very important, but feeding Anna takes precedence. So Mondays being my weight log days, I'm going to start doing 1800 cal/day and rotate 2100-2300 every 4-6 days. And typically I have a day in between of like 1600-1700, too, from busy-ness or just not being hungry or so. I also need to stay on myself about taking vitamins (and for my children as well) every morning and drinking plenty of just plain water. So.. that's my plan.... Just kind of rambling .. :) ~ Stephanie |

Hello All!
I am so glad for you gals! I am a 31 year old Mommy to two- a 7 week old girl, and a 13 year old girl (That's right, I have a built in babysitter!) I am planning to exclusively BF until the little one is 1 year at least, like many of you. I gained about 45 pounds during this PG, and I lost about 20 immediately, but haven't lost much more since (This is reminiscent of machatka's earlier post on when is the weight going to melt off?) I was all ready overweight, making my total weight loss goal about 70 pounds. i just started counting yesterday and both days have been around 2,000 calories before subtracting activity calories. When you gals have posted your calories, is that with activity calories and BFing calories taken out all ready, or before? So if I count my 500 cals for BFing, and my 300 cals for exercising, I have only consumed 120cals today? That doesn't seem good. Maye that's why I'm not losing. But I feel like I have been eating so badly, i can't imagine adding more food to my day! Sorry for the novel, I can't ever be short and sweet, I swear! |

Hello ladies!!!!
First let me start by saying that I was only 10lbs. from my goal weight of 135 last year, then I got pregnant. (I had lost a total of 67 lbs.) I am a 30 year old SAHM, and have a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 2 month old. I am planning on BF'ing as long as my son wants to (probably not past 2 years old though) I gained around 50lbs. this pregnancy, and didn't lose much after he was born. I wanted to start up and get back in the groove of things, but from what I had read in various places, it said I should wait until AT LEAST 6 weeks PP. I just started CC again last week, and didn't even know WHERE to begin calorie wise, so I started at 2000. My Nurse Practitioner said that I would lose weight with 2000 calories. So, I tried that for about 4 days, and I was STARVING!!!! Has anyone else had that problem???? The only empty calories that I've had have been 280 calories worth of chocolate chips to satisfy my sweet tooth. I am SOOO bummed because I started CC when my second child was 7 months old, and automatically lost 2 lbs. a week for the first 4 months, just from CC. After that I had to incorporate exercise. Anyway, I am afraid to eat more because I don't want to gain, but on the other hand, I don't want to starve myself either. Anyone else eating more than 2000 calories and losing??? I should also mention that I weight 185. My original goal weight was 135 (last year) but right now, I would be happy to get down to 145 where I was when I got pregnant. As far as exercising, I don't have a lot of time to do that while my son is so little. I am attached to him all the time (more like him attached to me!!! LOL!), and my older girls don't take naps anymore, so I can't use nap time to exercise like I did before. My husband is off 3 days a week, so that is about the only time I can exercise. Ok, gotta go, the baby is crying. :-) Haidi |

when i first started at 2000 cals i did feel hungry but eventually my body got better at accepting the cals i was consuming. im now averaging 1800-2000 cals still but ... was just on vaca for a week and ate to many buffets and junk- why arent vegetables offered more at peoples houses and everywhere??? so my weigh in is 162 - which is better then i thought-- but i didnt count anything i ate and as of today again i am and i need to push myself and excer more too-but my lil man has an ear infection and is fussy so i will do as i can- besides i have alot of clothes to put away from the vaca too!- ugh! welcome to the new moms- i hope your experience is just as great as mine has been so far! |

Hi! Thanks for your reply!
I've actually been doing pretty good the past few days on 2000 calories. There were a few days when I didn't actually "count", but I didn't go much over 2000, and it looks like I've lost about 2lbs, according to my scale!!! WOO HOO!!! So I think I'll be alright if I stay right around 2000 for now. I think you're right though. My body just needed a few days to get used to eating 2000. :-) Hope your little man feels better soon. It's NO fun when they're sick! |

hello all, i'd like to join this group - seems inspiring! i'm a mom to a beautiful 10 month old girl, and have been trying to get serious about weight loss. i weighed around 185 about two weeks after my daughter was born, but struggled with post-partum depression. after about six months of rarely leaving the house and eating (a lot) for comfort, i hadn't really lost any weight - i may have even gained a few pounds. i saw some photos of myself from my birthday party in mid february, and i was shocked to see how chubby i looked! after that i began taking hour-long walks every day. it was partly as therapy, and partly to lose weight. the weight began coming off pretty quickly, and now i'm probably down to 165 and feeling a lot better (that's a guess. i don't have a scale and only weigh myself occasionally. i was 168 last time i checked a couple weeks ago.) my stats: 5'9 29 years old medium frame current weight: 165ish goal weight: 140 and then i'll see if i need to lose any more... since i don't have a scale, i take my measurements every week. does anybody else do that? a friend told me 1/2 inch equals about two pounds. |

Stats 5'9" 30 small frame current weight - 199 -hey at least i'm under 200 right prepreg - 163 goal - 145/150 |
