  May 06 2008 08:15

Happy Cinco de mayo everyone! Just dos (2) questions!

1. What type of tea do you drink?

2. What do you like to put in it?

My answers:

1. Green tea all the way!

2. I love to put either some lime juice or recently i have just been putting in cinnamon and a pinch of splenda.

Favorite teas of mine:

  1. Chrysanthemum tea, very light and floral. Love it, nothing compares.
  2. Pu'er tea
  3. Peppermint with honey, soothing and feels good, especially in the mornings.

I don't add anything to my Asian teas, ever. It messes with my mind, because I've been drinking them unsweetened, untarnished since I was a child. For more Western teas, i.e. peppermint/raspberry/orange&cloves, I usually add honey. Once again, the fruitiness without the sweetness would really confuse me otherwise.

You can tell I don't like to be confused much :)

Actually the splenda doesn't really do anything i taste the cinnamon more, so i might as well stop with the splenda already!

Do you have any other suggestions for a very very low calorie (I prefer not to drink my calories) sweeteners that i could put inside of my tea?

What is wrong with you people? Lime juice? Cinnamon?

In answer to your question:

  1. Tea - just tea tea, usually supermarket own-brand because I'm tight
  2. Soya milk

The way it should be. Simple! Occasionally I may have peppermint or red bush. Nothing added because ... why would you?

Each to one's own ... Smile

I drink black tea up until 4 and green tea after 4. Sometimes I drink red bush tea and herbal teas.

For black tea, I use loose tea and a tea ball. The kinds I have currently is Darjeeling, English Afternoon tea, Ostfrisishe Goldblatt Mischung (mmm... my favourite, a mix from Oldenburg, which known for tea and coffee in Germany), and Marco Polo (flavoured with fruits and flowers).

For green tea, I have a special Japanese tea pot with built-in infuser. I drink mostly Japanese green tea, only Chinese green tea on rare occasion. I drink Sencha (the most common Japanese green tea, grassy smell) most often, but I also drink Genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice), Shincha (the same type of tea as Sencha, but from the first harvests so it tastes sweeter), Bancha (late harvests of Sencha) and Gyokuro (grown with shade, most sweet without anything added but more expensive so I don't drink it as much). In the mornings if I need a caffeine boast, I will have Matcha (ground green tea that is a suspension rather than an infusion so has a high caffeine content as you are consuming the leaves).

I never put anything in my green tea, I buy high quality tea so it would be a waste to put anything in because the flavour is good enough on its own. I don't usually put anything in my black tea unless I am out somewhere because the Brits think you are weird if you don't put milk in at least.

1. Green Tea.

2. Nothing in it, no sugar, no milk, just hot water and the tea :)

I used to drink tea with heaps of sugar and milk because the only way I could drink it was when it was extremely sweet. I trained myself to drink it plain though, and now I really enjoy it without all the added things.

I use Celestial Seasonings (i think that is what its called? it might be Celestial Seasons..). I get the variety pack or just honey chammomile (dont know how to spell it) by its self. For iced tea I get Arizona Iced Tea diet green tea, it has ZERO calories :) yay! It's crazy how many iced teas have a lot of calories!

I never add anything to my tea. I think it tastes great without anything extra. My mom always added honey and i thought about it, but it is just extra calories.

green tea with splenda or black tea with nothing!! I love tea! I also like lemon zinger plain!!! YUM!!! I might go make some now actually!! Great idea!

#28 w0lf May 08 2008 04:57

1. Rose Green tea

2. Nothing but hot water. I don't like drinking tea with sugar or milk much.

#29 strangeepiphany May 09 2008 05:27

1. I love almost all teas! Especially ginger, oolong, white, honey lemon, peppermint... well, yeah, you get the idea. I really like tea.

2. I don't put anything in my tea. I think milk and sugar ruin the taste, so I don't add anything.

#30 rastagirl0703 May 09 2008 19:52

Chai tea is the best and put light vanilla soy milk in it....yummy!

#31 veganyogini May 13 2008 02:49

I love all kinds of tea: black, oolong, green, rooibois, white, herbal.

Very Favorite

  • Lapsang Souchong
  • Earl Grey with rose petals
  • Ban-cha
  • Ginger
  • Dandelion
  • Yogi Teas: Classic India Spice or Mexican Sweet Chili
  • Chamomile with Lavender
  • Lemon Lavender Mint

I don't usually add anything.  If I do want to sweeten, I like to use raw agave nectar.

Hot tea is such a lovely comfort!  I find it usually satisfies most urges to consume something comforting, especially in place of dessert or before bedtime.

Happy tea-drinking everyone!

peppermint is my favorite...

#33 mspw May 13 2008 04:31

1) a: herbal teas of just about any kind

2) a: just the hot water

1) b: green teas - all but sencha, just don't like the taste

2) b: just a little stevia - great stuff! no calories, very sweet, all natural (the white stuff only)

1) c: black teas, me likes 'em all!

2: c: half & half or silk soy creamer & honey (except earl grey & lapsang souchong which i drink w/o the milky stuff.

NOTE: my faves are jasmine pearls, toasted almond black & oolong, which I treat like a green tea.

Green tea with a little agave nectar (health food store)... mmm .. so good.

If I don't want to use agave or anything with calories, I use stevia (also health food store).  Anyone use stevia?

more about stevia here.

i use stevia! it's so good and you barely need any, it's soooo sweet.

#36 wanwan123 May 14 2008 14:15

I love tea too I drink all kinds, but isn't splenda actual sugar? It's made from sugar right? I use it quite a bit (for teas and baking only). I know it's not like Sweet and Low, that was said to cause cancer awhile back.

#37 mgrondin May 16 2008 03:22

They only make it from sugar so they can say its "made from sugar".  They COULD make it from any variety of things.  It is a chlorinated sugar molecule and there has been very little long-term research into the safety.

I like agave nectar... tastes delicious and has a low glycemic response. I put a little in my black tea along with some lemon juice.

I also like a lot of herbal teas, usually I don't put anything in those.

#38 schmeester May 16 2008 03:27

Green tea is my tea of choice, plain and simple.  No need to add anything.

Sleepy Time tea is great for bedtime.

#39 whiterainbow May 17 2008 22:22

1. Green Tea, Peppermint, Sage, Ginger

2.Hot Green Tea with 1/3 apple juice (!! <- you have to try this) and occasionally the iced version of this.
