** The 2008 5'3 Club ** -- Weigh Ins every Friday!

Quote  |  Reply
Welcome to the 5'3 Club!

Thanks for joining us! If you didn't manage to join during our sign ups, please wait until the next sign ups take place before you post a message here.

Weigh Ins are weekly, every Friday.

To Weigh In you will post a message using the following format:
  • Weigh In For __/__ (mm/dd)
  • Current Weight

Chit-Chat is fine. I hope we can all get to know one another and truly give encouragement to one another. If you have any suggestions or comments about the club, please email me and let me know.

Just be sure your weigh ins are in bold so that I won't miss any! If you are weighing in at home on a day other than Friday, please wait until Friday to post your week's weigh in so that I don't miss any.

There may be changes, new challenges, new games, etc. as time goes by. I will always make announcements on this thread header and in a post here, so that it will be noticed, hopefully. :-)

Members
- You must weigh in at least once a month to remain on the member list. If you are going on vacation or there is some reason you will not be able to weigh in for over one month, please email me and let me know.

The Member List shows your starting/current/goal weights the followed by how far you are from your goal. I've broken the list into categories by weight to lose before you reach your goal. Once you reach your goal, you will be moved to the Maintenance area of the list and you may then weigh in as often or little as you'd like, just please try to keep it on Fridays.

Mandi,

Thanks for doing this thread. What is the quickest, easiest way to find it when I want to weigh in on Friday? Also, do you recommend that we post every Friday if possible?

Toniahayes

My pleasure!

The quickest way to find the thread is to "Tag It".  You should see a link that says "Tag It!" at the top of the page.  Click that and add a tag to it, such as 'club'.  Then you save it.  When you want to weigh in, go to My Account>Tagged Items>Forums and you will see it there.

I weigh in every Friday, but some people weigh in every 2 weeks and others monthly.  I think it is best to do it weekly, but that is my opinion.  Do what works best for you.  As long as you weigh in here once a month, you'll be a member.

Didn't move the scale at all this week.  I went out to dinner at a steakhouse and did well there (grilled chicken, green beans, salad) but didn't do so well Wednesday at the Chinese Buffet... I hate buffets... My boyfriend just loves the Chinese one here and I do love Chinese food, so I went along... BAD decision!

** Board Updated **

I've got everyone's weigh in thus far put on the board. I get my eyes crossed sometimes and I mess up, so if you please, check your name and make sure everything is right on it. If it's not, please let me know... Either here or privately.

** Congrats **

Go to skiier66, mlshores79, benakins, and sharz96 for dropping down to the next lowest weight group. Way to go!

Our biggest loser this week was rara03p with a loss of 4 lbs! Keep it up! :-)

** Question for the Week **

This week's question is... How many hours per week do you work out?

I'll answer the QotW here now...

I work out, on average, 1 hour a week right now.  I just started and I am doing 10 minutes at a moderate pace on my stationary bike each weekday.

I'm going to slowly increase the time to 30 minutes a day each weekday and add in 20 minutes of calisthenics (floor exercises) three days a week to make my average total 3 and a half hours a week.

Still at 175, need to change my workout routine I guess.

SW: 182 actually, had that wrong, Mandy, I apologize.

CW: 175

GW: 135

Worked out 4 times this week on the Elliptical trainer for 35 minutes. I think I need to do some resistance training. Or change up my workout. Who knows!

I generally work out 4-6 hours a week depending on my job schedule (if I work too much overtime I find myself too tired to work out.) I've been slacking off recently though because I just got over a horrible cold, blah! I need to get back on the workout wagon, and it's been really nice and unseasonably warm outside around here.

I actually just did this weigh in today, thankfully I lost a pound, yay better than nothing!  But mostly cause I will be going on vacation this Tuesday and will not be able to post until Sunday or Monday again.

As for the question of the week, it really varies for me.  I work out with my trainer pretty consistently 2x per week (an hour each time).  On top of that I go for walks, but I'm really slacking in the cardio department, which is something I expect to improve once I get back from my vacation because I am starting a 3x a week cardio program (it is scheduled out for 12 weeks).  So right now its about 3 or so hours a week, starting soon it will be more like 6 minimum.

Stayed the same this week.  Hopefully will have better results next week!

QoTW -- how many hours a week do I work out?

Well, I wasn't working out at all last month (Dec), but I'm back on track now, and I work out three times during the week at 35-40 minutes each, during which I jog a mile and then do eliptical or bike to finish of the time.  Then on the weekend I do an hour workout, which is the same as the week days, except I add swimming or rowing.  So that's about 2.75-3 hours a week.

Is anyone going to talk in this group, or is it just strictly a weigh in thread?

-talks to self-

Hey, I'll answer that question of the week,

I work out approximately 400 minutes, give or take every week.

  • Mon - no workout
  • Tues - 1.5 hours
  • Wed -  Possible workout (1 hour in the am), Aquafit bootcamp in the evening (45 mins)
  • Thurs - Cardio kickboxing (1.5 hours)
  • Friday - Possible workout (1 hour)
  • Saturday - 1-2 hours
  • Sunday - Yoga (2 hours)

QOTW.  I'm about 30 to 60 min 6 days a week.  Today was looking good as we were all packed up for skiing and snowboarding but my little boy woke up with a "shaky tucmmy".  I think he is okay but  No fair dragging him out.  We may go family skating later in the day if he is better.  In any event I'll go for a run this am before my dh goes to work.  If he didn't work today I could just go with my other little son.

What are your best suggestions for family oriented sports activities that include 8 and 6 year olds and count as excercise?

Hey Mandi, thanks again for setting up this group!

I try to work out for about an hour 5-6 days a week these days. When I first started working on my weight I think I only did it a couple times a week. Maybe three at the most. But now that I'm a little over 10lbs away from my goal I have to work that much harder. It's taken me from October until now to lose only THREE POUNDS! Craziness I tell you.

Anyone else having that same sort of issue? Surely I'm not the only shorty that's cursed with super-slow weightloss here. :P

Wow you guys are awesome for exerise. I've literally come to a complete stand still with exercise, I used to work out for about an hour 6 days a week doing intense aerobics, but over the winter and so much uni work I've lost alllll motivation. How do you guys stay motivated?

This isn't really a sport activity and won't come in handy until spring or summer, but at least it's a suggestion...

take them to a park with a big play place and play with them the whole time.  I babysit an almost-5-year-old sometimes and in the summer, I'd take him to the park here that has a huge play place and I'd play with him the whole time.  He'd have me running the whole time (talk about good aerobics!) and then pushing him on the swings (weight lifting?? LoL) and eventually, a few other kids got into it and we played tag (more running! haha).  It really does get your heart pumping and you don't realize how much you're working out.  We would stay for 2 hours and the whole time, I'd be up and very active, so it worked out well.

Motivation is hard for me.  I was doing well with my workouts in November, but didn't work out once in Dec... I'm back on track now though.

My stationary bike is in the computer room and when I am working out on it, I have a picture pulled up on the computer for motivation... someone whose body I feel like I can reach realistically... and that helps.  I also listen to music on my MP3 player and have a few good motivational songs, such as Nelly's Heart of a Champion, Eye of the Tiger, etc.

I also listen to audio books on my MP3 player when I work out as I get really into the book and don't want to stop listening, so I tell myself I have to keep working out if I want to keep listening. :-)

Hey Everyone,

Weigh in for 11/01

CW: 131

Loss: -2lbs!!

If I have the time to do more, I do but I generally tend to workout 3 days a week and swim for 45 mins.  I really feel it when I dont workout because my sleep pattern gets messed up otherwise.  Does anyone else find that exercise helps you to sleep better??

QOTW: I'm not so motivated with exercise but I try to do 15-20 minutes on the elliptical a day as well as about 20 minutes of whatever floor exercises I choose to do.

And definitely entersandlady, I think getting exercise helps me sleep much better.

QOTW - How many hours per week do you work out?

I just started this month trying to get back on track.  I workout 4 - 5 times a week for a 1/2 hour each day....i plan to do more but i'm working my way up to it.  So i only get about 2 - 2 1/2 hours per week in.

My biggest problem is i have a hard time staying motivated.  I get down or depressed about my weight and then fall of the wagon...i'm definitely trying to not let that happen again.

Hi all
