Peanut Butter Obsession

Quote  |  Reply
I have a serious problem when it comes to peanut butter. I CRAVE it. I get it into my head and can't stop until I've shoveled about 10 tablespoons into my mouth. Its awful. Does anyone know what thats about, or have any suggestions of what I can subsitute in its place?

whoops i made a mistake. It's nature's promise, no sodium pbutter you should try :)
low fat/cal PB? is there a fat free one yet??
I am not a PB by the spoonful girl...BUT I love PB cookies.

I probably gained 5 lbs alone eating those Reese PB cookies (they are chocolate cookies with the reese cup PB on top then dipped in fudge). I'd buy a box and it would be gone by the end of the day. Half the time I wouldn't even eat the cookie part, just the PB top...so creamy and yummy! UHH...but then I would feel horrible after.
Well, I HAVE to get my PB fix everyday.  I use regular skippy, about a 1.5 tablespoons.  I'm not a big jelly fan, so I usually use only about a teaspoon of that.  Then low-cal whole wheat bread.  The whole thing comes out to about 250-260 calories.  I don't think it's unreasonable to put this in my calorie count everyday, and I'd die without it, lol!
I too am obsessed with peanut butter. It's gotten so bad that I don't even allow myself to buy it. If I happen to have a moment of weakness in the grocery store and I do buy it, it's usually gone within a couple of days. I just plop down in front of the couch with the jar and a spoon! It's horrible!!!
try a peanut butter cookie luna bar, okay i know its not the same but seriously its pretty darn good
I love pb too, when I'm having a pb fix I'll get  some rice cakes and spread the pb on the rice cake not the mini's , but the regular size ones. I hope this helps you. Usually I cake will satisy my craving. It's alot better than eating subway pb cookie 200-210 and 10 fat grams.

PB in the fridge and then by the teaspoon..amazing.  Also PB mixed wth nutella on toasted bread!

People i think we all crave so much PB because its got so much protein in it plus its not hard to digest so our bodies and brain have associated it with a quick, nutritious hit that tastes goodddddddddddddd!
I'm confused x17start17x, I just went to the website for the PB2 and it says it's powdered, and then they show you the PB Oil that you mix with it!! How is this stuff better for you than regular?  Enlighten me....

Trader Joes carries something called Better'n'Peanut Butter, which is made with soy and tapioco so it tastes not exactly the same, a little sweeter, but it has only 100 calories/2 tablespoons nd only 2 grams of fat (versus like 16 regular). i never ever ate peanut butter growing up, i hated it...but when i went to college i became insane for it.  this way i can still satisfy my addiction without feelings guilty.
I buy all natural PB, and mix one serving of it with slices of banana.. Sooooo good.
I am also a lover of peanut butter!!!  I eat Nature's Valley Peanut Butter  Crunchy Granola Bars... mmmmmmmmmmmm

2 bars for 180 calories..   Love love love them!!  (also a source of whole grain)
ehhh i know what you mean...peanut butter is my ultimate weakness. so i dont even allow myself near the jar anymore (i would get RID of it, but my mother eats it) because i eat too much if i get started :)

try peanut butter luna bars- they're 180 cals (same as just 2 tablespoons of peanut butter!) and they definently satisfy that peanut butter craving!
I know!  Just when I think I've conquered it... it comes back again!!!!

Last time I threw half the jar away... I log the calories... and tell myself it's okay... but it skews my fat percentages for the day out of whack!
oh God, where has this forum been all my life.... I loooovvvvveeeee peanut butter!!!

If i were stranded on an island and could pick one american food to have with me it would be peanut butter. It goes with almost everything i like to eat =)

*drools a little*
Yeah, so I was grumpy before this, but c'mon, ceciliasms, that was totally lame, dude. Why even click on the discussion that says "PB Obsession"?? Jeepers.

Anyway, I'm with the rest of you. Somehow I am able to channel the post PB-binge guilt prior to diving in and going totally overboard, but it is pretty hard to stop. I LOVE the stuff. Here are some thoughts from a PB aficionada...

First, I'm not crazy about PB2. I like it in vanilla soy shakes with bananas, (people like w/chocolate too) but I have to add more than 2tbsp to get any intensity out of the flavor and then it's like why not just add 1 tbsp of the real stuff and get my fix? I don't like it on bread, maybe it's just a mental thing but there is something really unsavory about thinking that my pb is water and powder, it's unsettling and kind of icky. I don't hate it, I'm just not a huge proponent.

I also switched a couple of years ago over to the natural stuff and now it's all I will buy. The transition from skippy/jif to the undoubtedly different texture/taste of the natural stuff was odd only for the first couple of servings. Now it does the trick even better because the flavor is so much more intense without the added sugar, salt, HFCS (ew!) and hydrogenated oils to dillute the taste. And watch out for the Smuckers' Reduced Fat Natural because it has a fat substitute-gross. I'd switch, you can likely get your fix on less that way, though unlike getfit20 it hasn't diminished the urge at all. I get the Arrowhead Mills Valencia Peanut Butter, all peanuts, nothin' else. And you can pour the oil off the top to lose some more fat g's.

Also, my new find is almond butter. I think I like it more than PB, holy cow, well, that's heavy, but I really really like it. Even though I have always been a creamy PB girl, I like the crunchy almond butter. I also never found the need to refrigerate my natural pb--it stays pretty mixed and at room temp it's easier to stir if you have to--but I like my almond butter cold. I do eat that out of the jar, but I can usually stop at 1 tbsp, I use a fork and just have a tiny dab at a time and really savor the roasted naturally sweet flavor. I also like it on a toasted whole wheat minibagel with a tiny tiny drizzle of honey and if I'm feeling extra sassy, some cinnamon.

The last piece of wisdom, a recipe to try, I keep trying to peddle this one but no one has tried it or let me know if they have. This was my favorite snack as a kid and still is, but I just don't make them much:

PUDDIN' WICHES

2-3 parts plain yogurt (you can do lowfat) to 1 part peanut butter. Blend until smooth (you can just use a fork). Smear liberally between graham crackers (they make whole grain ones) and then place in plastic zipper bags and freeze. In 2-3 hours you will have an amazing and quite health-ful snack.

I also frequently make the pb/yogurt mix one serving at a time and dip apple or banana slices in it. YU-UM. mMMMm. DO IT.
well i may try that dnealis, you think it would work with soy yogurt?

Have you ever tried sunflower seed butter? I like that just as much as peanut butter
I have never heard of sunflower seed butter, but I love sunflower seeds, I'll bet it's awesome! And I've never tried soy-gurt either but I can't see it being bad, will just be a slightly different flavor than the tangy dairy kind, but you could try making a little batch and see if you like it.
I thought I was the only one who had a weird obsession with peanut butter!  Whenever I make a sandwich with it or whatever, I would always end up eating a few spoonfuls.  :-P  And at random times I just crave it, can't understand why!

I've switched to all-natural, but it still is tempting to eat spoonfuls of it... though afterwards it all hits you at the same time and your stomach feels like it has a rock in it... no good.  :-P

I'll have to try this PB2 stuff...  Or do like someone said... buy it in portion sized packs...
peanut butter is the only thing i ever really get cravings for now-a-days.... don't even crave chocolate... well maybe if i smell it
