| pandajenn, that maybe the coolest thing I have ever seen. Being kind of a DIY guy, I think I maybe able to rig something like that. Thanks for the great idea, and thanks everyone for the advice. Sounds like it shouldn't be too bad. I'll know more after Friday. Take it easy. | ||

| I'm going to set my goal at 5000 miles by the end of summer, that will give me something to shoot for. Another goal will be to commute to work at least 4 days a week. I work in the service department at a car dealership so I don't have to wear nice clothes (they provide uniforms), but I cary my stuff I will need for the day in a backpack. I think I will keep track of how much money I am saving by not usisng gas to get to work as well. Happy cycling everyone. | ||

Hello everyone! I have a mountain bike, nothing expensive just a run of the mill 18 speed. My husband and I bought two a few weeks ago and ride whenever we can. We have four kids, ages 9, 8, 6 and 2 so it's a trip with no road riding and not much rugged riding. The two year old is in a baby seat, but the other three ride with us and do pretty well. We have a park by us that has paved access (not really a bike path, but it's used as one) and I would estimate we do between 4-6 miles each time we ride. Considerably less than most of you, but we're trying. On most Saturdays the kids go to grandmas for the day and we ride without them, but between the gym and my being out of shape my legs get to killing me on any little incline :)
My only question is if anyone lives in Mchigan in the Lapeer/Davison area and could give me other kid friendly places to ride? Or anyone in northern Michigan Houghton Lake area for our trips north. |

As of a couple weeks ago I finally got myself a good road bike (good in my sense of the word) to start riding the Chief Ladiga paved bike trail that runs through the town I live in. The trail is around 24 miles long... so a round trip can be a pretty serious ride. Sadly as much as I'd like to commute to work on a bicycle (expecially given how much gas is) ... and 17 miles isn't bad.... it's just the road is way too busy, hilly, and there's no showers or anything here at work. At some point though I'm going to be looking into something very high in gas milage. Even if i'm riding a scooter or something :^O . I wish we had something like the Metro system in the DC area. When I was up there for a while it was super convenient. My last ride was 34 miles round trip back on the 5th of this month. My next ride is tomorrow with a co-worker. He's more of a serious bicyclist than I am... he rode some local race of 103'ish miles here recently with a team of people. He rides a bike he bought at a yardsale though that's a little small for his size.... so he's more serious than me... but he's not exactly investing the bucks into a serious bike. Anyway, it's nice to see a more community oriented thread for bicycling popping up. I'm not aiming for any number of miles this year or this month. Just using my legs to burn some serious calories and get into better and better shape. |

| jhuntlo1, don't live in Mich, but check out the michigan dept of transportation. Look under bicycling, tons of maps for the entire state. I checked it out and it's pretty impressive. | ||

Hi all! I ride a 2005 Fuji Cross Pro that is fairly new to me. I think it is a beautiful bike, I posted a pic of it in my profile. I also have a late 90's Haro Escape mountain bike that I use to tote my kids to the store or the park etc. in the bike trailer. I also have been known to ride a few trails but I have decided since getting the road bike I prefer road riding to mountain riding. I have lost 42 pounds since coming to C-C and hope to lose around 15 more - that should put me at about 23% body fat. My husband is training for a Triathlon currently so I tag along with him on his training rides when possible (need a babysitter if we ride together). I have a general goal to reduce gas consumption by using the mountain bike to run errands with my kids. I live in a rural community so I don't have to worry about traffic but rather dogs and gravel roads I am also not going to set a mileage goal but I would like to get in at least one 4-5 hour ride on my Fuji each week. I want to start riding with the local bike club but my husband tells me they always leave the two women that go in the dust. If I can get my average up to 15-16 mph I believe I can definitely keep up with some, my current average is about 13.5. I look forward to having a place to ask questions and just enjoy the community! |

hi all! i'm carri. i'm a 37yo bike chick & i've been cycling almost 10 years now. mostly i'm a commuter (30 miles per day, about 3x per week depending on weather, meetings & errands), but i do the occasional charity ride & recreational rides. my husband & i took a fabulous cycling vacation to Le Tour in 2004, so we rode some cool climbs in Europe. we definitely plan to do more cycling travel in the US and abroad - our bikes even break down to pack up for travel.
i've got 2 bikes. my main ride is a Lemond Tourmalet, circa 2001, retrofitted with S & S couplers, cantilever brake mounts & rack mounts by Bilenky Cycleworks, custom painted by Joe Bell to match my dog, and built up to my spec by my local shop with an Ultegra - XT Shimano drivetrain (triple, 9-speed). it's equipped with a rear rack & trunk bag (and a kickstand!), to be my ultimate commuter-mobile. there's a photo in my pictures. my other bike, previously my only bike, is a 2004 Bianchi Axis cyclocross bike, outfitted with a TruVativ triple as part of a lower end Shimano drivetrain, also 9 speed. i'm still thinking on whether i've got a goal to post. this is a great thread - it's nice to have more experienced folks here to answer questions, and it's great fun to see new folks taking up riding for exercise, fun, transportation, environmental goodness, etc. ... so many good reasons to be cycling :-) |

| On the first day of the week I drive to work and leave a supply of clothes and other stuff that I am going to need for the week in my desk and locker. I always leave my shoes, belt and hygeine products at work. I put my lunch in a trunk and ride to work 4 days a week. When I go home I take the work clothes that I wore that day home in the trunk so that I don't have to make an extra trip to pick up the dirty laundry. | ||

I just got back from a short ride, about 12 miles. It felt great, evening air and all, but I have a question for you bike mechanics out there. My bike is making a clicking noise, I am fairly sure it is my front derauilleur. Here is the history. This weekend it was clicking and I had to hold the shifter in almost all the way and pedal for it ot shift to the biggest ring. I had the bike shop guy adjust it for me and today when I took it out is still is acting up. I have to press the shifter in all the way and then again halfway and hold to get it to shift. Is this normally how my front derauilleur and shifter should work? I am fairly new to this bike and it has been doing this since I got it and after it was professionally adjusted. I have shimano 105 shifters and front derauilleur. On a side note, when I was checking the spelling of derauilleur I found this fairly amusing site, it may give you a chuckle. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer.html gmule: I rolled over your name and saw your pictures and I think you and my husband would be great friends. His favorite things are bikes (prefers mountain but road is a close second), motorcycles, and 4x4's. But I guess this could be said of many men out there. |

I'm so happy there are so many cyclists on this website! You are all inspiring to me and make me want to do better and increase the mileage of my rides. I thought 10 miles was a lot! I also learn so much more recieving advice from real cyclists other than websites trying to sell their products.
I'll set my goal low for now (so I can atleast follow it). I want to ride 3 days a week on the 10 mile bike path at the forest preserve by my house. I bought a bike rack for my car so I can now go alone, instead of putting it in the bed of my fiance's truck when he decides to go (not as much as I want to!). I'll be buying my first pair of bike shorts soon! |

Good morning everyone, and welcome to new and old alike,
I'm going to (all be it slowly) add our names to the club roster, see original post. It will be slow but I hope to have all of us on there soon. If you haven't already done so, could you list what state or county you are from, city would be nice too. pozesara, clicking noises are a pain, you might think it's coming from one spot and its another. I'd go back to the shop and have them look at it again. I have a problem with mine that sounds the same but it's the rear derailiur (the hanger is bent waiting for new one). I have a friend and his was his shoes. Good luck hope you figure it out. DAN |

| I took an early morning ride this morning. It went well, very little wind. I rode about 17 miles and ended up at work, so I can get in a few more miles at lunch and after work. One fun thing happened, I saw a deer about 100 yards or so away from me. He wouldn't let me get any closer than that before he ran off. Have a great day everyone. | ||

Today I have a 1.5 hour to 2 hour ride planned with my bicyclist co-worker... it should be fun. Oh and I ride a GMC Denali Road Bike. It's such an awesome bike (and pretty light at 26 pounds... my mountain bike is 40 pounds)... I love road biking :) ... oh and I am in Jacksonville, AL. I'll post tomorrow how it all went. This is my second serious ride with the bike. Hopefully we'll cover around 25 to 30 miles. |

| Hi everyone, may I join the cycling club? I'm a runner recovering from a stress fracture. The weather is just getting nice here and I've been putting a lot of miles on my old Cannondale SR800 (an oldie but a goodie!). I am signed up for a duathlon June 9, assuming that Dr. will let me run the 5K. This will be my first foray into the multisport world! Any tips from experienced du or tri people would be appreciated. | ||
