Starbucks = HEALTHY! SWEEEEEEEET. braillepassion
  Jul 14 2008 17:52

Ok, so I work at Starbucks. THis.......can be difficult when you're trying to lose weight! Unlimited free frappuccinos while working? Free drinks 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after a shift? Yeah. Talk about temptation.

So tomorrow Starbucks is coming out with a new beverage: Vivanno Nourishing Blends. There will be two flavors: Banana Chocolate and Mango Orange Banana.

The Banana Chocolate one will be made with a whole banana (freshhhh!), a few pumps of mocha syrup (ONLY bad thing in this), some high quality whey protein powder (really high quality, actually, I was surprised), and whatever milk you want (can you say: nonfat?) With 2% milk, this drink will be 270 calories, 5g of fat, 44carbs, 21g of protein, PLUS it's very very very filling.

EVEN BETTER:

THE MANGO ORANGE BANANA one will be made with a whole banana, 100% pure fruit juice (naked brand), the high quality whey powder, and whatever milk you want. This will have 16g of protein, 2g of fat, TONS of vitamins, 47 carbs....and it's also really filling.

I'm excited, and you should be too.....it's gonna cost about the same as a small frappuccino......but it's a GRANDE size. And it keeps you full for longer, with lesssleessslesssssssss sugar!!!!

It's my new opening-the-store-at-430AM drink. :)

Can anyone guesstimate the calories of the chocolate banana one with nonfat milk and a shot of espresso?  I imagine the espresso would lighten the calories some.

Not a Vivanno -  but I just tried the new lemonade slughy thing (not BRAND new, but new within the past month or so).

SOOO good. I actually had the lemonade green tea one....not as "tart" as the straight lemon one - so said the barista that recommended it after I had ordered the straight up lemonade one.

I took his advice, and LOVE it. Best freshing drink ever. More icy than the Vivanno drinks - which i have also had. I like the lemonade one way more, even if it only has one measly gram of fiber and tons of sugar. I am NOT trying to lose, so it's perfectly fine. I got a Venti one, it has 260 calories.  The straight lemonade one has 350 or something (in the venti). It's huge. I usually get the light fraps....but this is way better (are more summerish and refreshing.

anaxandra- the nonfat chocolate banana with a shot of espresso (what i had) is approximately 240 calories give or take about 10 calories (depending on the barista...because its not like they're using measuring cups everytime they make the drink)...but its a grande size...and very healthy- 21g protein, i think maybe 4+g of fibre, and the sugar mostly comes from the banana (i think its about 20-25g if i remember correctly), so its also high in potassium. Definitely a good guiltfree snack that keeps you satisfied.

Linny- yeah I heard from a lot of the people that they didn't like it, but I personally enjoyed it because i like the taste of banana and chocolate combined- i guess it depends, only you can be the judge of that :)

thank you finskafisk!  can't wait to try it :D

I agree w/ cellophane star -- not sure I'd be willing to spend 270 calories on it. I hate the idea of drinking away so many calories.

I think I'd stick to a frappucinno light for under 200 cals :) get my chocolate/coffee icy blenddd fix!

What tastes really good: sub the mocha in the banana mocha vivano for sugar-free vanilla. Then have it with non fat milk. So basically the whole drink is 3 pumps of sugar-free vanilla+non fat milk+banana+the three scoops of protein/fiber= yummy

My coworker who doesn't care to be healthy loved this mix :)

I think it's safe to start a thread and call it "All Starbucks employees of C-C are partying here". You'd have a really long thread =)

Does anyone know where the sugar is coming from in these drinks? According to the  Starbucks website, the orange mango drink has 32 grams of sugar. I would think that maybe 15-20 grams would be coming from the banana, then some would be coming from the milk, and then maybe some from the "naked juice"? First off, what is naked  juice, and second off, would any of this sugar be considered "bad"/"refined" sugar? I know that the chocolate banana one would have it because of the mocha syrup, but what about the orange mango?

EDIT: I actually think I found the answer to my own question here: http://starbucksgossip.typepad.com/_/2008/07/its-vivanno-lau .html. According to most people on this forum, the orange mango is nothing but natural sugar (banana, naked juice, and milk).

Blending an espresso shot is not a good idea. I have tried it (I work at Second Cup), and it seems to produce a helluva lot of foam. Not good!

I got it with an espresso shot and it worked really well! I also thought it tasted better.

They were giving samples of the Mango Orange Banana drink the first day.  I tried it and liked it but I wouldn't pay that kind of money for it.  Besides, I don't like asking for substitutions and I'd have to have soy milk for a full sized drink.

But I've since seen the suggestion of Lemonade + their energy shot.  That sounds good.  Anyone know what the energy shot tastes like?

#33 madetoshine Jul 21 2008 20:41

What's wrong with asking for substitutions?  It takes the same effort to pour soy milk as it does 2%.

#34 mrsdagle Jul 21 2008 20:59

I just don't like it, they yell out the orders along with the substitutions and it gets really obnoxious.  I'm a nut when it comes to ordering, I like to keep it simple.

Yes, Linny the 270 cals is including 2% milk, I got mine skim and I think it ended up somewhere between 230-250 (i checked it on my food log on thedailyplate.com)...and they were more than happy to do it with skim milk for me, i'm sure you can also have it done with soy if you ask.

The default milk used is 2% but you can have it with nonfat or soy no problem. there is also a new pasty called the berry stella. It has 280 calories.

I stayed at the gym too long this morning, so I didn't have time to grab breakfast before leaving my house, so I figured I'd give the Banana Chocolate smoothie a try. It was pretty good, the chocolate in the morning isn't really my thing tho, so I think next time I'll try the mango one. I'm not a coffee drinker so I rarely go to Starbucks (except for the wintertime to get peppermint hot chocolate!) but I may have to start getting these every once in a while. It also helps that I get a 25% at the starbucks at work - I work at a university which is associated with/next door to a hotel, the hotel has the starbucks so they give the university employees discounts!

i had the banana one and i thought to myself "wow this must be really bad because its soooo good" but now that i know it isnt that bad...yay!
