| Slings vs. Carriers for Newborns, Your thoughts/experiences please | ||

| I'm trying to decide whether to get a Sling or an actual front & Back carrier for times I want to bring the baby out for short walks without the stroller, or carry her around the house; but able to have my hands free.
Can anyone recommend a sling? Or let me know your experience with a sling? I like the look of them; but I want what is best for baby. My height is 5"1 in case that matters; and after the baby is out I suspect I will be in 130-140 range of weight. I'd like to go the sling route; but after doing homework on Consumer reports; and reading reviews; I'm not sure it is the safest route. If you have had a good experience with a carrier that wasn't too bulky; please let me know which product you went with. I appreciate everyone's response! |

i bought the the maya wrap after reading this post, right before my vacation. it was amazing the best thing i ever bought.
it was a little difficult to adjust, but once you get the hang of it, it is a breeze. it was especially helpful in restaurants, i could breast feed and no one was the wiser. |

I used the MOBY wrap for the first few months. She loved it and was able to sleep in it for hours. Now that she's 4 months I'm switching to the bjorn. I really prefer the moby though. My friend just got a MAYA wrap and she's psyched. |

I FINALLY bought one- it's a Dr. Sears wrap Balboa Baby Sling - lots of factors to consider; and this one seemed reasonably priced plus it was adjustable. They have another one size xs-s, s-m, and m-l: and with the weight I plan to loose I really wanted an adjustable one.
I'm not sure which will be delivered first....the sling or the baby!!! 1 more week and a few days to go!! Thanks all for your advice. It was a hard decision. |

Original Post by swearimn: Amazing wrap for BF'ing in public!!!! You can wear the baby in the sling while BF'ing and walk around a mall and nobody would know. I LOVE this wrap. My son is 3 and I still put him in it - if we are going for a long walk and he gets tired he sits on my hip in the wrap and can snuggle in and keep warm... love it when he falls asleep on my shoulder. |

Hi ladies;
So; the sling is way too big I think for her. she gets lost in it and i was afraid for her neck. So; I'm going to use it when she gets a little older. She just gets lost in there. The instructions tell me to put some blankets in there for newborns; so; we'll see. I also bought a front carrier - so my DH could also use it- I bought an Ergo- and let me tell you it's amazing. I put my little julia in it today and walked around the house. Boom! Naptime! and she didn't cry at all when I put her in it. Although I can honestly say she only cries when she's hungry. (I really lucked out!) The Ergo comes with a DVD that tells you how to put it on; which I love b/c I"m such a moron when it comes to reading instructions. I had to put it on using a small pillow in instead of the baby so I could get used to it! It only took me about 10 tries to really get the hang of it. I"m going to re-study my sling. I still love them and just think I need to get the hang of them. I won't give up! |

I tried to get a sling when my son was 2 months, but he hated it!! He was way too big for the stupid thing! He was almost 12 lbs at 2 months, though. He likes the front carrier now, but he is almost too big (again!) for the one I bought him. GRRR they grow so fast! |
