After a poster quoted that peanut butter "must contain crack" (kudos to whoever thought of this--awesome!) because of its addictiveness, it got me thinking. Why has peanut butter been claimed as one of the most addictive health foods?
1.) Healthy fats: Probably one of the most obvious answers. Dieters often get the mindset that fats in foods are bad and should be avoided. Wrong! Choose healthy fats from nuts, nut butters, seeds, olive oils, and avocados. 20-30% of your calories should come from fat.
2.) Nutrients: Peanut butter contains many of the vitamins and nutrients that dieters often cut in order to shed pounds. Copper is one of those nutrients, mostly found in red meat, which dieters often cut down or eliminate from their diets. Niacin and tryptophan are mostly found in chicken and fish, so vegetarians often seek these nutrients found in peanut butter.

The next time you take an extra spoonful of peanut butter and are thinking of punishing yourself, pat yourself on the back and say, "my body was probably just replenishing itself of some needed nutrients!" So let's all welcome back peanut butter and include it into our daily diets. Hope you all enjoyed my little show about peanuts. :D
funny, i was just talking with a coworker today about this very thing. i try not to keep any of it in the house, because i will go after it...however she ordered some for our office and alas..it will be here tomorrow. at least i seem to have more self control during the day, and i really wouldnt want my coworkers to see me eating pb straight out of the jar! haha..
i wonder if its just the best food ever..filling, salty and sweet all at the same time. no..it does have crack in it..im sure.
there's no butter in it. It's mashed up peanuts and salt if you get the good kind. bad brands have sugar and extra oil.
Once when it was on sale I bought four jars. Left them on the counter and went to work. when I got home all four jars were open. The grandkids thought that I had bought them each their own jar.
Gotta be Kraft smooth and Kraft chunky for making cookies.
I found the "better than peanut butter" to be just as addictive. I don't buy it anymore because I found myself adding jelly and raisons and eating it by the tablespoon. I had a hard time stopping. For me it's one of those foods I stay away from as often as I can. I usually by a Greens+ peanut butter chocolate protien bar and get my fix that way.   ;

and it must do! otherwise why's it called peanut butter?
does it have jam in it instead? :) xx.
Dear ageliki...Did you ever read the label of a jar of peanut butter? All this thinking about pb has caused me have a desire to go get a spoonful, so I'll share w/you what is in this jar. It shows the following ingredients: Roasted peanuts, sugar, palm oil, salt. The nutrition data shows low saturated fat (3.5 g per 2 Tbsp) and NO cholesterol (as in 0 g per 2 Tbsp). Plus the pb has some fiber (2 g per 2 Tbsp). I don't see any resemblance to butter there at all. -Mrs. K
PS: I made a similar mistake about turkey burgers recently. I assumed since it was turkey it was immensely healthier because it is low sat fat but they have just as much cholesterol as regular beef burgers. I made the mistake because I didn't read the labels carefully in the store. I just grabbed up the turkey because the label said 93% LEAN and I "KNEW" that turkey is better for you than beef, especially the 80/20 kind.
Moral of the story...it's never too late to learn.
preferably I would chuck PB off the earth if I could... along with all other disgustingly yummy treats (walnuts, pistashios, pecans, ugh, dired fruits, cheeses). Dammit!
But what I do with PB (Bc honestly I HAVE to have it... I think I would pull out my hair without it, lol) is with my dinner/protein shake if I am low in cals for the day or fat, I will add 2 tbs of PB to my already amazing shake... and voila! Suddenly it's like a watered-down PB shake... a big cup of PB? Awesome! Way to kill the craving without going overboard. :)
I am ADDICTED! I can't stop, I love it on everything. I love all nut butters, almond, cashew, and recently sunbutter. Try it! I mix it all with honey, dried fruits, on apples, with jelly, with chocolate, in smoothies, in oatmeal, with a spoon straight from the jar. I tend to do all of the above on most days
and I'm hoping this will make me super healthy.
Peanut butter is one of my favorite foods on the planet. As many of you have mentioned, I could sit down with simply the jar and a spoon and I'd be a happy camper. Unfortunately I can't do this anymore because of my diet. Instead, I've reserved peanut butter as a late night snack: I take 4 Keebler Club crackers (70 calories) and make 2 peanut butter sandwiches with 1 tablespoon of Skippy Creamy (95 calories). At 165 calories it's not too bad of a snack, but it could be better by finding lower-calorie crackers and peanut butter (which I plan to do during my next trip to the grocery store). I always make sure I have enough calories left at the end of the day to treat myself to this snack, and it does a fairly decent job of satisfying my ongoing craving for peanut butter.
Peanut butter is yummy (especially peanut butter cookies =])! The only thing that bothers me is how it's so high-cal
I tend to like the organic brands better than the regular kinds though
I eat peanut butter everyday. I dont know why I love it so much, but I do. This post makes me happy! :) haha Even if peanut butter was bad, idk if I could get away from it...lol
I knew peanut butter was a good source of protein and healthy fats, but I didn't know how nutrient rich it was.
I'd been avoiding peanut butter because of the fat and sugar (if I could stand the unsweetened stuff, it would be so much better for me), but I now have a reason to make room for it in my diet. Thanks!

Mm-hmm... then why are potato chips addictive? And jelly beans? Are these among the world's healthiest foods as well? Your theory doesn't work =)

I love, love, love natural peanut butter. The best one I've found is Kraft 100% natural. Low-sugar, no added salt!!!
It's great on a multi-grain flatbread!
90 cals : 2 TBSP
Great for protein !

Peanut Butter
ditto!
I did read, that if your PB has the oil on top, to drain it off and not stir it in, to save calories.
I started eating PB last yr, when I first started losing weight, but then had ordered the jars of PB2, and would have a tiny bowl as a snack. That's too expensive for me now and for now the spoon of reg stuff hasn't affected my weight.
