It's so frustrating at times living with them all because they can eat anything they want and i have to watch my calories all the time.  My hubby is 6'3" and weighs on a good day 175 pounds.  My kids are normal weights too.  Anyone here like that??

your kids probably get it from their dad? ^_^; sorry I can't relate.

Just thought I'd post, my family up the female side is obese, my grandma's pretty big, my mom was like 200 pounds when she was 18, I was very close, and now my 11 year old sister weighs more than me (I'm 21 yrs), I'm 165 pounds, and last I heard she was 180, it's rediculous and it's sad, I don't really talk to my sister if I can help it but god, I know what it was like when I was younger and I know what she'll have to go through, she also has the same attitude as me which helps NOTHING.

no doubt it's kind of gotta suck but i think your family would probably look at you as a comfortable mother as opposed to a 'mature woman' (those're scary), sorry for my lack of help :( good luck in the future

my hubby loses weight over the holidays because his body's metabolism raises so much trying to digest the extra food.  He just can't gain...if he does, he loses it when he stops trying to gain...

we have 3 kids...our 15 y/o daughter COULD gain but not like me...she is more athleticly built then I was...the other 2 just like thier dad.

It's so not fair my hubby can just stop eating let's say "sweets" and he would probably lose 20 pounds right off!! I know how frustrating it is!! Believe me!! The unfair point of being a woman is we have fat stores for having babies etc..... it does seem men can lose it quicker than we can.  I can look at a piece of cake and gain 5 pounds!!

He's not my husband, but I know what you mean. My boyfriend is 6' and weighs maybe 140 pounds. I'm 5'6" and around 185. It makes me uncomfortable. :P

I know what you mean bilaya!! I feel uncomfy most of the time because i would love to be at a normal weight!! I think sex would probably be more enjoyable too.  I just hope i can lose it!!

Oh I definitely relate with you on this. My fiance is very thin and in shape, and he can eat whatever he wants! Such as right now he's on the computer eating a HUGE bowl of cereal, while I had black coffee for breakfast. But, we all need to focus on the fact that everyone has a different body type and metabolism, so we should try not to compare too much. And I'm sure your husband thinks you are beautiful the way you are, or else he probably wouldn't be with you!!

#7 agentstarling May 21 2008 18:55

Kate, that's why i love him so because he loves me unconditionally that' how i know he would love me even if i was thin!! :)  I know i just need to focus on getting in shape eventually maybe i will be as thin as he is!! LOL

But I was ubber skinny before I had babies...deffinatly body changes with that for most of us!

Heck, my hubby is 5'10" and weighs all of 135lbs soaking wet (and has since he was about 16 years old, he turns 38 this year)!  I am FINALLY approaching him in weight and I am 5'4"!!! I outweghed him by over 30 lbs up until my recent weight loss!

Yesterday he was "sick," so he stayed home from work and ate an entire half of a mud cake yesterday and washed that down with a bunch of doritos, and of course there were two sausages with large buns on the grill for dinner last night and god knows what else.  And you know what I bet he weighs today??  132lbs because I am just sure he wokred all of that off by just cutting himself a piece of that damn mud cake.

Can't yet tell what my two year old daughter is like yet, but she seems like she takes after him in the eating and weight department, so good for her, I can only hope she doesn't have to struggle with her weight all her life like me

I can relate with the partner situation my partner is 6'3" and weights around 175lbs (ha the same weight as me!! and im 5'6").. He eats whatever he likes, ice-creams, chocolates, crisps, second portions of dinner, fast food etc you name it.. and he is so skinny and its sooooo not fair! :(

I'd just encourage you not to let the fact that they're slim affect your desire for a healthier lifestyle.  Because 'slim' and 'healthy' are not always synonymous.  Watching a TV programme the other evening about healthy eating I was amazed when the (overweight) wife of a man who ate nothing but chicken nuggets, chips and ice-cream sighed.... 'he's OK eating what he likes  because he's healthy'.   By 'healthy' she meant 'skinny' of course.   But judging by the bloke's pallid, spotty complexion he was anything but healthy.

My point being that - even though your family is slim and can eat 'anything they want' without gaining weight - don't let that deter you from making your house a healthy-eating household where everyone eats lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains and lean meats etc.    You have a smaller amount because you want to lose weight.  They eat much bigger portions because they don't need to lose any.   You'll find it much easier to lose weight if the other members of the family aren't chomping junk in front of you.

I can attest to the fact that being thin doesn't mean healthy.  My sister lost a lot of weight when she was in middle school. She went from being chubby to being a size 0. But she did it still eating frech fries, hamburgers, ribs, fried foods in general, and anything else she wanted. She just ate smaller portions and exercised more. Now she's 18 and she is still eating whatever she wants. She gave blood for the first time a month or so a go. They called her to say that her cholesterol is over 200! At age 18!

I think your putting too much stock in being thin. The thing i love most about eating healthier is not the weight loss, it's the greater feeling of well being. I'm so much more optimistic, my skin glows, I never argue with my boyfriend anymore, I don't get jealous, and I sleep much better. Not that I don't appreciate loosing 30 lbs too!

Just be happy with the knowledge that you're treating your body properly.

Yes, I can definitely relate to the husband and kids being thin.  I get so jealous sometimes because like AgentStarling, I can look at ice cream (or cake) and gain 5 pounds!!!  My husband can sit there while we watch a movie and eat a huge bowl of ice cream while I sip on my water.

Unfortunately though, I put so much emphasis on myself eating healthy and watching my calories and losing weight, that my 12 year old has started to be overly concerned with her weight.  It's scaring me.  She weighs 74 pounds (and is 4'10) and gets extremely excited when she loses weight.  I'm glad my kids get their long, skinny shape from their dad, but I hope I didn't damage my 12 year old by obsessing about my own weight.

I don't think it is putting too much stock in being thin so much as an ugh moment.... even if you know you are getting healthy it is still frustrating that your bf or husband doesn't have to put as much effort into it :) Its a rant, I am sure... b/c I have to rant too-

so, we got wii fit and my bf got on and it weighed him- he is 6'3" 168 and I said, is the weight right? Yep- I said, you lost weight? he said- yeah- the last two weeks he cut down protein shakes from two to one... lost 7 lbs.

to his credit he eats a lot of healthy things and does workout- but throw me a bone! About a month ago I cut back lots of food and started doing more cardio- and 2 lbs down- NO FAIR :)

I can sympathize, when I first started at cc I was exactly twice the weight of my husband (and we are the same height), his waste measurement is the same as my thigh....  revolting!  I take comfort in the fact that if we get lost in the woods I will have more reserves and live longer than him Wink

i feel this post!  my man is trying to *gain* weight because he recently started to take adderrol and accidentally lost 60 pounds.  to add to this, he didn't know me at my largest (45 lbs ago) so he thinks i look great and isn't very supportive of me trying to lose more.

as far as i'm concerned though, we all have the things we struggle with.  i'm thankful that it's only my weight!  it's the only thing that i'm like "please, just be supportive the best you can" and "eat your mcdonalds in your car before you come in!"

I agree, I know my husband loves me too, so I am doing this for me and for my new baby girl (9 months yesterday) so I can get my thoughts and feelings about myself in order before she is well aware that her mama is uncomfortable with herself.

My husband too is a thin rail but has started getting a soda gut.  I used to get so mad at how much he did NOT eat and I felt like such a pig eating normal sized meals.  But then I realized he eats really unhealthy food like fast food and frozen pizza all the time AND he drinks about 1000-1500 cals of soda a day.  So now I dont feel bad, now I am just trying to get him to drink less and eat healthier so we can be a healthy family.

Oh, I was even worse. I'm 5'0", my husband is 5'11". When we first met, I weighed 187 and he weighed just barely 160. I know the weight difference in POUNDS isn't as bad, but take into account the fact that I'm a foot shorter than him, not just 6 inches like you and your boyfriend. AWKWARD! I felt like people were always staring at us :(

I can relate but your healthy eating habits will pay off in the end. Your husband's bad eating habits will catch up to him eventually so just be thankful that your doing something good for your health now and the weight loss will follow. Just be patient!
