Women's Weight Fluctations leiela

Ok a question to the women at “that” time of the month how much do you find your weight fluctuates?? How long before do you start to notice your weight going up and when does it generally come down again??

haha, people on this site don't reply to just any question ... not that I'd be helpful, but I've asked the problem before without getting help.

THE BEST WAY to find out is to record at least specifically that week and maybe a bit before and after to get your results.  What I notice is that it goes up a pound and stays there for a couple days without coming back down but I also am not keeping track of my eating habits, but i KNOW every girl gets it different.  So it'd also be important to keep track of what you're eating, and making sure the snack times are generally consistent.

Because everyone is so different I doubt any single persons aid will help you, and unfortunately my best answer is to see for yourself :

Agree with du57y, the only way you can figure out how your weight fluctuates is based on the numbers you track, not other people's.

Personally, I go up 1 - 2 pounds about a week before and then drop that weight plus the pound-ish I have lost that week from diet and exercise a few days before it finishes.  Luckily I don't get huge cravings so my eating habits remain relatively normal.

Ditto! I'll let you know for sure by Monday! LOL!

I don't gain any weight at "that" time. I never have.

I suspect there is a lot of variation when it comes to that issue.

I typically go up about 2-3 pounds the week before and stay up through most of my period. Towards the end i drop that and another 1 to 3 pounds depending on how much i would have lost in those 2 weeks.

If you are curious about how much you gain, you could try weighing yourself the week before for the next few months and logging it. I definitely notice a pattern on my graph.

Yeah i realise that everyone is different but i started dieting on my period last month and lost a whooping 4lb's all at once ... at the time i put it down to water.

I was 124lb on my first day if dieting which was at the end of my period a few days laste i'd quickly dropped to 120lbs ... during the next three weeks or so i got down to about 118lb not brilliant but at least the scales where going down.

Last monday i rocketed up again to 121lbs i got pretty frustrated because i didn't realise what it was and i'd been REALLY REALLY good on my diet.

Finally but the end of the week they started moving down again, and my period started ... im currently on about 119lb and i guess im PRAYING i still have some excess to loose ..

id hate to think i'd spent the last 3 weeks getting no-where.. because according to my chart i currently wieght exactly the same as i did this time last month 119lbs but i am still bleeding slighly so i havn't given up hope just yet.

I was 7lbs heavier this past Friday. Got back on the scale today and 7lbs. lighter=) I fluctuate horribly during that time of the month. Usually, I gain a week before and lose the second day of, but we're all different.

lol. I realize this sounds stupid, because its a very natural process, but I completely forgot about gaining weight during my period! And I didn't expect it so soon in the month, but I got it about 5 days early.

Haha. Sorry, but I'm happy now. I thought I had gained a ton of weight over the past two weeks, and I finally got the courage to weigh myself: 166.5 (I had been dreading seeing something like 172 or something... I had been 165.5 before this 2 week fiasco started.) Anyway, now I'm hoping that in 3-4 days, it'll be closer to 164.5, because although its different for everyone, it sounds pretty consistent: gain a week before, drop a few days into it.  I'll let you know?

I think it's a good thing to record your periods. I simply put a 1 on my calendar on the day it starts. It's pretty fascinating for me b/c I didn't realise I knew so little about this aspect of my body. and it comes in handy to know what's coming up.

I gain a week before and drop on day 2 or 3 as well. That day I fondly refer to as reveal day.

See, I learn something new every day here.  I hadn't even thought of my period as being part and parcel of the weight flux.  I just now got down to what I was before my period started (about a week and a half ago), and it was about 2#s worth of up and down.

I just thought my body was screwing with me, but I figured if I kept at the good habits it'd realize the error of its ways.  Now at least I know to expect more crazy-go-nuts at "that time" :)

EDIT:  Holy crap, ninjas.  I just went back and looked at my weight log.  10 days ago, started my period, weight: 200.2.  I weighed myself every day during that time, and sure enough it went up, dipped, up, and then has now dropped right back down to 200.2.  Totally crazy, it was exactly the time frame I was dealing with my period, plus a couple days of recovery :P

I usually gain weight the week of my period, and not the week before, but by the next weigh in day AFTER my period, it's gone and then some (from cutting cals).

Last time though, I had the worst pms I've ever had and did gain a pound the week before my period. And then a whopping 3-4 the week of my period. It was kind of a bad month for all that. It might have had something to do with the stress I was feeling?

All I can say is, it's unpredictable for me at least. I try not to worry about my weight or freak out about what it's doing at that time of the month. Just keep in mind that things may be weird for a while, but then they'll go away.

Mine can go up by as much as 4 pounds about a week before my period.  About three days into my period the weight starts coming back down, and is completely gone by the end of my period.

I hate that time. I get terrible bloat a week and a half before my period and the day I get it, it starts to drop. But mine is noticeable too and I hate it. Does anyone know if midol actually works? I know it doesnt work for cramps. I usually go up 4lbs max usually which sux b.c i notice my eating habits change so I think the weight gain is from that which it simply isnt.
#14 green_tea_turtle_baby May 23 2008 00:01

I tend to lose quite a bit a couple days before my period and then gain as much as 3-4 pounds during and especially towards the end of it. It's only a week later that I find my weight goes back to normal.

#15 victoriagirl May 23 2008 00:45

It seems like my weight loss completely stalls the week before my period, but then drops when I am 1 or 2 days into it, and usually enough to make up for the earlier stall. I go through the angst of it every month.

Me: "Why oh why has my weight loss stalled?? What am I doing wrong? Am I hitting the dreaded Plateau? Should I change my cals/proportions/exercise??"

If my body could answer it would say "It's that time of the month, just like every month for the last 25 years, dumbass". Argh you'd think I'd have this figured out by now.

I blame the hormones. Not only do they cause water retention, depression, and general craziness, they also cause repeated temporary memory loss, so that you have to go through the same agony of WHY DO I FEEL THIS WAY, WHAT'S HAPPENING?? every f-ing month.

I gain usually between 2-4 lbs usually, and my lower stomach just bloats and gets bigger, and bigger and bigger until I think it's going to explode! I usually gain about 1 full week before my period, and then lose it all the day or second day after my period ends! It's so frustrating at that time, I always feel like I spend half my month being bloated, and my other half at my "normal" size.

Am I the only one that has weird weight fluctuations around Ovulation.  I don't know that every woman knows her cycles, especially if she is on hormonal birth control.  But every cycle about two days before O, the scale jumps about 2lbs, and doesn't go back down until after O.  I have noticed this the past three cycles.

As for when AF arrives, I actually lose weight during AF. I have checked again and again because so many women post they bloat, or down losing weight.

#18 leanne21071 May 23 2008 13:02

weddingmama I'm right there with you.  I gain during O week up at least 2lbs and then a few days later I'll lose it plus a little.  I always lose the week of my period just not very much.  I chart daily and found the trend while frustrated.
