| I was tricked.... | ||
| May 21 2008 13:54 | ||
Usually I am always full after my breakfast right up until lunch time but today I had to get up earlier and wasnt so I thought Id go out to the shop and find a filling cereal bar or something to have for a mid morning snack, I was aiming for an 100 cal or so, so im looking through the selection checkin out the cal content in each & find one that looks yum & has 107 cals label on the front... anyway get back into office and enjoy it thoroughly until I go to log the info into CC, 107 cals per 20.5g (in small print) but the total bar is 41 g so its double that! man I was peed!! now I'm having soup for lunch and dinner!! :( tricksters!!! |

Hey! Its only 100 calories! I realize that serving sizes like that are a joke... but look on the bright side... at least it filled you up :-) I once grabbed one of those clear sparkling waters which are usually calorie free. The store brand ones. Little did I know, the store made two versions, and both of them said "caffeine free" on the front. Well, I grabbed the non-calorie free one, and drank more than half of the liter before I realized it! that was about 250 calories! Man, I felt bad! |

at least you enjoyed it thoroughly before you found out. And hey, who cares that much. Just work out a little harder tonight. That's what I do when I feel bad about eating something. |

100 calories isn't so bad! but from now on, ALWAYS check the number of portions on packages.
there are some really absurd things out there labeled as having muliple servings. i mean really, who drinks half a 20oz bottle of soda? who eats half a small bag of chips? ridiculous! i always think, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is :/ |

why would an extra 100 calories make you have just soup for lunch and dinner...you still should be able to eat fairly normal foods...100 calories is just skipping your afternoon snack...how many or how few calories are you going for? Doesn't sound like enough |

lol. Those are the worst, especially for junk food and they do it on purpose! There was a special that said if there were clear portion markings people would actually eat less. Most people don't pay attention to serving size, hence why we are a fat nation. |

| Yep I hate that too, it's funny when they pack 2-4 servings into a package that is usually designed to be eaten in one sitting. I always check servings per container. | ||

this is why i want to make my "diet drocery store", it has everything a regular grocery store would have except like ... with the doritos and marshmellows and stuff ... my bf and me are on diets, I would fall for that trick probably every time, but he knows to check out the serving size ^.~ |

Oh I hate this sooo much!! To me a can of peaches is one serving, not 2.5!! But it pays to read labels no matter what. |

Maaaaan, that sucks. I'm glad I'm starting this in Germany, because I think on pretty much every package they list the nutrition facts per 100g. (Then again, some don't list them at all, and most aren't as detailed as the ones in the States and Canada...) |

"who drinks half a 20oz bottle of soda?"Me. Since I no longer drink diet soda I can't ever finish a 12oz soda, much less a full 20 ouncer. I wish we could go back to 8oz bottles. |

i mean really, who drinks half a 20oz bottle of soda? Me. I can only drink about 200ml of Coke before I start feeling ill. A buddy bottle's about right for me. But I can't imagine eating only half a cereal bar... |

"why would an extra 100 calories make you have just soup for lunch and dinner...you still should be able to eat fairly normal foods...100 calories is just skipping your afternoon snack...how many or how few calories are you going for? Doesn't sound like enough" Aiming for 1400 today, differs every day, I tend to eat light meals cos I prefer to get in a few snacks throughout the day... i.e brekki, usually lasts me until lunch, apple, dinner, after dinner grapes/sultanas, gym, after gym usually yogurt&fruit or hot choc&cereal bar... average about 1300 a day, depending low day or high day.. (zigzag) |

hehe oook shandy and malaida, you have points, i'm sure there are plenty of people who can't finish a whole 20oz or regular soda.
but my point was that the average person looks at those bottles as a single serving! |

I hear you on "portions"~!
I thought it was so funny when Kraft Dinner came out with their new "single serving" portions - hell, for me, the orignal boxes WERE a single serving! LOL! |

that reminds me of when i bought this ring lollipop for the movies one time and it said 25 cals so i was thinking it was made with artificial sweeteners, plus it was pretty tiny, i mean the lollipop was on a ring. turns out, the serving size was .9 grams and there was 6 servings, so actually 150 calories. that sure pissed me off.. how does ANYONE know what .9 grams looks like?! |

My peeve is when there are partial servings in the can. Every can of beans seems to have 3.5 servings. It makes it so hard to divide out unless I weigh it, and what am I supposed to do with the last 1/2 serving?! In my perfect world, each can would have 4 servings.

I hate buying fruit in cans... 8 pear halves in a can to split into 3.5 servings is dumb. Don't let 100 calories ruin your day, btw. I used to eat a can of chunk light tuna for lunch that I thought was 60cals... more like 120. I didn't fret. |

Why do these places do that I mean who eats half a cereal bar and they know it. |
