How can I add an item and have any idea of what the calories are when I can not find anything similar anywhere online? This is so frustrating.

How many calories do I burn trying to find the information to log here? I swear lately that is what I do more then anything

Tell us what the item is and maybe we can help.

So the actually answer is you have no idea. Thanks that is what I thought. Rather annoying but oh well one day I will find the answers to what these foods nutrition actually are until I guess I will just vent about how badly this site really needs to be updated so that people can actually log things even half way correctly

LOL thank you for proving that this site really is nothing more then something to laugh at.

not to sound patronising, but doesn't it say on the packet you ate it from? just add it onto your other cals you can count for...

You would think so but not everything does. cant add what you don't know.

First I would like to ask you for your patience.  It's Sunday and many people are away from their computers.  I'm sure you will get more responses during the week.  You might also ask this question on the Calorie Count forum which is monitored by the administrative team.

Please tell us the specific item you are looking for and we will try to help you.  Every instance is different so we really do need to know the specifics.

Many times it's just a matter of modifying what you type into the search engine.  For instance "apple" will get you everything with apple in it such as apple pie.  "Apples" will take you directly to raw apples.

Please bear with us and allow us to help.

Thank you

I have been a member since January, 2006, and have no problem using the site.  Logging correctly is a learning process, but it's really not that hard.  We could help you if you'd just tell us what you need.

I tried asking her (so did whoever posted the #2 post) but my post got deleted cause I was being snarky Innocent

Seriously, OP, use google if your food or nothing like it is in this database....if it doesnt work for you, fine, leave....but it works for many many many others...so whose problem is it...yours or the sites?

I don't get what she means by "So the actually answer is you have no idea."

Of course we have no idea... we have no idea what the food is. Doens't make sense.

I don't know what country you live in, but here in America EVERY food MUST either have the nutrition facts clearly printed on the label, or a clear phone number/ web address where the info can be found.

Aside from that, there are MANY sites online that provide nutritional information about almost every single food ever eaten.  A great one that I use often is nutritiondata.com

Getting frustrated with those whom you seek help from is NEVER a nice thing to do... besides, we are all on diets here and that makes us crabby! So watch it!!! Yell

LOL! Yeah, that's probably her problem. She is feeling crabby.

I've had a dandy of a time locating the nutritional information on foreign sweets and snacks. For instance, I love those strawberry licorice pieces with a fondant centre that are sold at Woolworth's in the Pick N Mix bins. No information on the bins, none on the website, no manufacturer details, nothing. I think they are made by Haribo in Spain or Portugal but their website only gives a vague indication as to the caloric and fat content for an unknown quantity. In the end, I find I'm better off without it.

I will admit the website has its flaws, one of the biggest being the need to update the database with non-US manufactured products. I find I have to enter a LOT of the stuff manually. My beef, however, is less with the adding of an item, as the process is simple and fast, but more to do with the fact you cannot easily add the item, refer back to it and have the system more intuitively figure how to calculate a different quantity. For instance, you add the nutritional content for a 100g quantity on Day 1. On Day 4, you go to the tag you created on the added item from Day 1, click add, but want to enter a 70 gram portion and have to manually calculate and re-enter the quantities. This seems like basic coding that the website should be able to handle. But if anyone has any solution, I am open to suggestions.

I enter the smallest amount that I would have and then readd it as many times as I need to get my final amount.  For instance, I drink unsweetened soy milk in my coffee and usually use 1/4 cup, but sometimes a 1/2 cup so I just readd the 1/4 cup.
