I don't believe in any supplements.  You should be able to take in all your daily requirements with your diet.  You want more protein?  Eat more lean protein like fish, eggs, chicken breast, etc...  What happens to your body when the supplement goes away?  Your body gets dependent and when you remove it, your body goes into a type of withdrawal.  Supplements are for people who don't eat right.  Unless you have a medical condition that dictates taking them, I would stay away.

You need to eat calorie dense food too so you can eat more of it.  Nuts are a healthy calorie dense food and so are avacados.  Of course if you start eating a lot you should be working out probably several times a day for up to 2 hours.  I would suggest weights Monday, Thursday, Friday and light jogging on Tuesday and Wednesday to remain lean while you are gaining.

You should visit the feature on here that tells you how much to eat to achieve your goal weight.

I agree with minimizing supplements, but it can be very difficult, even in this day and age, to get all the nutrients you need without them. I take a multivitamin because without it I can't seem to get enough iron or calcium, and as a woman those nutrients are very important.

Calorie-dense protein-rich foods are a good way to go. According to the nutritionist working for CC, if you're muscle-building you need to eat 1 gram of protein per day per kg of body weight. So right now, you weigh 59 kg and need to be getting 59 g of protein per day.

In addition to protein, keep track of your minerals. If you're building muscle it'll be very important that you're getting enough calcium, potassium, and iron, because those are all important for your muscle health. If you eat a lot of red meat, iron shouldn't be a problem; you get calcium from meat too and milk isn't a bad protein source, but you can also get calcium from veggies like broccoli and cauliflower. Don't neglect your fruits and veggies, because that's where good potassium will come from - like bananas or potatoes.

Definitely get some advice from a doctor or nutritionist, since this is a pretty ambitious goal you have. They can help ensure you're getting enough calories, because building muscle and weight that fast will require a LOT of energy.

I agree with tryin to limit supplements, but they're okay if you really need them. When I needed to have over 4000 cal a day or I'd lose weight, there was no way I was giving up my supplements. Otherwise I would've exploded.

I need to clarify one point....I don't consider a daily multi-vitamin a supplement.  Supplements in my definition are things like creatine that shove mass amounts of stuff into your body - protein being the most common - in order to make larger than normal gains towards a goal.  Daily vitamins of calcium for women, or iron for immune system during flu season, do not fit my definition of supplements.

Also, if you'll refer back to my initial reply at the very top, I said "Unless you have a medical condition that dictates taking them, I would stay away."  I am not against them totally, however, I still believe that you can get all you need by your diet alone.

I'll play devil's advocate. There are a lot of supplements that are perfectly fine to use. They are out there to help people put on lean muscle mass, which is what your set out to do.

I went from 160 to 190 in the last 4 months of college, my list of supplements were: multivitamins, Omega 3,6,9; weight gainers, and creatine. I ate 5 full meals a day with 4 snacks in between. Worked out for 1 hour everyday, with 1 day a month off. I can understand where everyone comes from, but unless you can devote your entire day to eating and working out, things like weight gainers make progress so much easier. When I slowed my training stopped taking supplements, i dropped all my water weight, and fell to 175 in almost a month. Which is where I am today, there was no withdrawl or symptoms, I just lowered my calorie intake and lowered my activity level.

You want to gain 40-50 pounds in 6 months. Eat. Eat until your full, then eat until you can't.  I agree that all the calories you can get from whole foods you should. Train the most that you can, limiting your workouts to no more than 1.5 hours a day (more than that will waste your calories without showing gains) and limit your cardio to 1-2 a week. I'm not sure what your body makeup in, but at 130 pounds i doubt gaining fat will be a problem.

I would encourage you to invest in some weight gainer, and wouldn't worry about the rest. At the beginning, especially being 19 and full of testosterone, your going to gain alot of weight and mass quickly.

Good Luck
