| Lexapro | ||

I had a doctor's appointment today & I told my doctor all about my past history with my eating disorder, how I had relapsed, and that I've been trying so hard to get better, but I just can't seem to balance myself out again. Anywho, to make a long story short, she wants me to see a therapist and has prescribed 10 mg of Lexapro for depression/anxiety. I've read various other posts on here about Lexapro and it seems like a lot of people have had positive results with it. Please let me know how y'all did on Lexapro--it would be much appreciated. I just want my emotional, mental and physical health to be back in balance--I should be enjoying life--not obsessing over something as pointless as my weight & calories, so hopefully this will help. Anyway, let me know. Thanks! |

I am on Lexapro, 20 mgs. I have been dealing with depression for at least 15 years and have tried MANY different medications. With Lexapro I feel like my old self again. The anxiety is better and I can control my emotions. I once had an eating disorder, but that was over 20 years ago. I remember just obsessing about calories. What finally turned the corner for me was going to the doctor and him telling me that I needed to gain at least 20 pounds. Having a medical person tell me that I was unhealthy scared me enough to get me going. His suggestion was to eat a lot of milkshakes! Hang in there! |

I was on Lexapro for severe anxiety-caused depression. It totally helped me out, and after 2 years of Lexapro + counseling I was able to stop taking it and am now OK without it. It's a real success. The only thing that affected me was it made me incredibly jittery --- however, it's rare to have really noticeable side-effects. It happened to my brother, and we are the only people I've ever known to have side effects that haven't gone away in the first month or so. But compared how much it helped me really made the jitters a minor side effect. Please try it coupled with therapy, and hopefully you'll be able to achieve the goal of this medication -- to learn to be able to deal with everyday life enough that you no longer need it. Best of luck to you, darling. You can do it, I know you can! |

I am taking lexapro 10 mg. And I love it! I take it for anxiety and depression, I have not felt so good in years. I dont worry near as much! I am a real high strong person and it is incredible how much this medication has made me a much more laid back person. Hope it works for you. :) |

well, I took my first pill tonight at 8 pm and a few hours later I woke up to go to the bathroom & got incredibly dizzy as if I were going to pass out. I had to fall back into bed, got all sweaty & my heartbeat is beating fast, which I know is due to the medication. My question is, how long do these side effects usually last? My doctor told me they could happen for the first few days and then clear up as my body adjusts to the medication. Is this correct? And how long do the side effects last when you are having them? For example...do they last a few hours, all day long, or off and on through out the day? I'm just wondering because I have to work tomorrow & it won't be a very pleasant day for me if I become all sweaty, dizzy, and feel as if I'm going to faint every time I stand up. I'll be taking them at night time before I go to bed, so I'm hoping that they will just happen while I'm sleeping & I won't have to deal with them as much. Any advice would be much appreciated please. Thanks! |

Hopefully your body will adjust in a few days. If you're still having those symptoms next week, I would call your doctor and ask about it. I took Lexapro for 2 years and found it to be the best anti-depressant that I've taken (though I was taking it for anxiety/OCD). The only side effect I experienced was being tired and I was able to go off of the medication and have been med-free for over a year with no problems. |
