Hi. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here! Today I have had: A bowl of special K with milk 4 cups of tea a turkey sandwich and a plum A big plate of homemade quorn chilli with long grain and wild rice and sour cream. I'm STILL 353 cals UNDER 1200! Its 8.45pm so I don't really want to start stuffing more food in as I am full already. Can anyone help please? Thanks S x |

i don't see a good fat source. try almonds or pistachios. some kind of nuts. you can also try dried fruit. prunes are my favorite. |

You don't seem to really have any snacks. If you eat between meals, it will keep you more satisfied and thinking better AND will up your calories. |

I would try a more substantial breakfast maybe an egg/piece of toast as well as the cereal or with fruit. It doesn't sound like you are getting your five fruit and veg a day. How about snacking on fruit, raw carrots and houmous or nuts and seeds? Good Luck :-) |

well, for once; the foods you're choosing aren't all that great. special k has no protein or fiber and sour cream is just full of cholesterol and bad fats, and you also don't seem to eat alot of fruits or vegetables. my suggestion to get your calories up and healthier is to buy cereal that has more protein and fiber (and more likely more calories), eat more fruits and veggies and maybe using higher-fiber bread (which would contain more calories as well). |

Original Post by ericainrecovery: yes, try kashi golean crunch. it has 200 cals per cup and 9 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein. |

I have the same problem, my calorie intake rarely goes over 1200 except on the days I eat candy. I never go hungry and I eat mostly healthy food, but I still have under 1200 cals which I think is no good for the body. I think eating more fruit and nuts ecpecially will help though :) |

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, I normally eat more fruit and veg but today has been an endless day of traffic jams and queues, so I just grabbed stuff that was quick. My big problem is the snacking thing. I have never eaten between meals and to be truthful generally have only really eaten one meal a day for the last few years, so I am trying to re educate myself into eating regularly. I have a big jar of mixed seeds that I like but as I couldn't find them on the CC, I've stayed away from them. I can definitely increase my breakfast intake and will spend a bit more time on my lunch. I'm going to have a cereal bar and a glass of milk before bed and start tomorrow anew! Thanks again. |

If you don't like to randomly snack, build a 'fourth meal' aka supper into your meal plan and tell yourself that it's a meal, not a snack. From the looks of it you had about 200 calories for breakfast, 300 calories for lunch, and 400 calories for dinner... having more calories at breakfast would help set you up for the day and make it easier to meet your quota too... |

I keep a stash of nuts (pistachios) that are high in calories and fats. Just 1/4 cup in the afternoon. |

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately we all woke very late this morning so I shall have breakfasrt after the school run and then go to work! Could anyone give me a rough idea what the cal count of mixed seeds is please? Mine are a mix of things like pumpkin, sunflower, linseed and sesame. Thanks S x |

| Most seeds are about the same calories per ounce... 150-160. So pick one of them and enter that in your food log. | ||

If you really like turkey sandwiches and they are easy to make, just add some baby spinach leaves a slice of cheese and/or some hummus. Also, use a whole grain bread (if you don't already). If you like cereal then add some fruit to it like raisins, bananas, strawberries, or blueberries. If you find yourself in this situation late, make a smoothie with your favorite fruits and blend with milk or yogurt and some ice. Remember that your body needs fat, so don't be afraid to use a little cheese/dairy or even items like olives, hummus, nuts for increasing calories without having to add a lot of quantity.
As for the nuts, look each one up (make sure to use same weight, ie per oz), add together and divide by 4. |

I don't mean this to be rude at all, but if you are trying to loose weight in the first place you are probably aware of how to take in more calories. Sometimes when first starting a diet or new style of eating its easy to get really wrapped into in and try to go for more than you should (eating 900 calories a day). But, after doing that for so long you will get burned out from it and give up, or else your body will become used to that and as soon as your calorie intake increases your body will hold on to the weight. If you want to avoid eating calories late, try to bulk up your lunch a little but with a piece of cheese on your sandwich, or something to accompany your sandwich like some soup or a salad or something! |

Your menu looks deficient in calcium - I'd add low fat yogurt - Fiber One lime is yummy - or a glass of skim milk. I'd also add another fruit and some veggies. When I'm low on calories for the day I eat peanut butter - good fats and adds calories - and I drink a glass of milk. Have you tried protein shakes? Helps up your protein % and also helps to add in calories without making you feel stuffed. I have one almost every day. I also started eating almonds - calories and good fat. |

I recommend throwing your scale away believe me or not this will help. Keep doing your food diary and only weigh yourself once a month pick a public place that is close to you. I go to gnc they have a good scale and I only weigh myself there. This will work. Drink water and stop worrying. |
