Wine anyone?? trishiek
  May 14 2008 20:36

It's sad to say, but I just figured out that the wine I like is 799 calories for the entire bottle... my wine glass must be REALLY big, becuase I only get two glasses out of the bottle!
LOL - looks like I'll have to skip a snack or two, to allow for that many calories!!!

You must use a GIGANTIC glass!  There's supposed to be 5 glasses per bottle!

#2 trishiek May 14 2008 20:46

LOL - I think it holds about 16 oz - but that way I can say "I only had two glasses"...

I guess its time to rethink the big glass theory...or maybe enroll in a 'program', becuz I HATE the thought of giving up the vino!!!!

same here. viva le vin!

#4 alylou May 14 2008 21:34

I'll take a glass! Just to save you a few calories, of course!Wink

Amen sister!  That's my downfall for sure!  I love red wine, but try to stick with white since it has a few less calories.  I'm going to find a way to invent low cal wine (like low cal beer)!

Woah! Trishiek, where did you get your wine glasses?? I need to get myself some of those!! Tongue out

red wine has resveritrol (spell much?) and it has anti aging properties.  try giving up high fructose corn syrup and drink that wine!Wink

My biggest problem with wine is knowing where to find out how many calories is in it. None of the labels seem to say it and there is a huge variance in what people believe to be the general calorie count.

I hear ya!  I tell myself it's fine to enjoy my wine, as long as I don't let myself make bad eating decisions as a result.  After a few glasses, I always find myself craving a snack!

Yeah I spent a whole week trying to figure out if I was going to let myself have wine tomorrow or not. Well, I've reached a decision and unsurprisingly I'm going to have a glass..or two, knowing myself. The bad thing is, after a few glasses, I tend to lose my guard about the food portions.

yes, that's always the risk. i'll not have cheese or something on day i want wine in the evening and then once i'm drinking the wine all my resolve disappears and out come the cheese and crackers! lol.

i've heard the higher the percentage the higher the calories and seeing a lot of wines are pretty potent nowadays i think it is probably best to overestimate. the 'glass' on here is something ridiculous like 3 fl oz - that's a sip not a glass! lol.

edit - ah, it is 3.5 fl oz - so a sip and a bit!

red wine goes too well with cheese, therein lies the problem for me!

wow, I this is my down fall too. Last night after my work out I had 2 glasses with dinner, and then of course while you have a good buzz going you hit the roommates cookie dough in the frige.

Red wine 3.5 oz = 75 calories... white wine 3.5 oz = 70 calories.. even if there couple calories less or more - does not make a big difference!

I glass of wine usually is 6 oz.. if it looks full - 7 oz... it is 150 calories .. So, as I am a huge fan of red wine.. I am making sure during the day that I leave 300 calories out of my "budget" for 2 glasses of wine in the eveningLaughing And it helps me to skip snacks... As even when I look at a little candy I think - Ok, it is 1 oz of wine Cool.. looking at a snack bar - ooppppps, it it is my 4 oz of wineSurprised ... So, I found my way to motivate myself to stop snaking!Laughing

And from other hand.. wine helps me in the evening, which is the most hard time for me to stop eating.. as I take little sips and 2 glasses usually last about 2-3 hours until i go to bed!

Try to make a commitment to have wine after certain time in the evening (I do 9 pm) and give yourself a promise not to have any snacks with it.... Just think about wine as it is your snack!!! "The snack of the day" Laughing
