| Example of a day for me. Critique? | ||
| May 14 2008 17:50 | ||
| Woke up from my boyfriends around 8 am and stopped at the gym on my way home and jogged on the treadmill for 35 minutes. Went home around 945 and had an apple. Did "donkey kicks" and lunges for about 25 minutes in my room while my sunless-tanning lotion dried (I don't use tanning beds/layout) For lunch I had a can of green beans, 1/2 a large onion and 8 small shrimp mixed together in a frying pan (no butter/olive oil) topped with lemon pepper and an apple on the side (SOOO good--should definitely try that recipe!) I am going to dinner with some friends tonight to a local sports bad.. I will have a chicken salad with a bunch of vegetables and balsalmic dressing and a couple beers.. (I typically do either 35 minutes of cardio and some strength training at home OR like an hour of rollerblading depending on the weather.) A year ago from now I use to weight 104 lbs at 5'2 and 21 years old- I was on a strict 1200 calorie a day and vigorously exercised... Now a year later (and almost 22).. I am 5'2" and about 111-113 lbs and eat anywhere from 1200-2000 calories a day.. Wanting to tone up a lot and maybe get down to 109. |

You need to eat more! With that much exercise, you need way more than 1200 calories to keep your metabolism up and out of starvation mode. |

You didn't eat enough and your breakfast was way late. When it did come, you only ate an apple, which is not enough and lacking protein. You're set to lose muscle this way. Stop measuring yourself by your weight, and instead measure by inches-- since you want to gain muscle and lose fat, the scale will be useless in telling you your progress. |

Thank you for your input.. and I agree. Weight really is just a number, I would much rather see a change in the way my clothes/bathing suit fit.. I was just giving an idea of what kind of things I am trying to change.
Like I said this was just an example of a day for me. I generally eat a lot earlier.. and usually it's whole wheat bread with 1 cup of egg whites.. I eat a lot of protein.. However, I am not perfect.. Some days I'll have 2 bowls of cereal at nights.. some days I have a couple pieces of dark chocolate.. and one day a weekend I usually go out and have more than a couple beers (if you catch my drift)- I still make healthy food choices though.. But I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong/what I could do different to see some changes. I try to change my types of cardio so I don't get used to the same thing, I cut out all table salt and sugar- I don't drink pop.. I just wish I could see the results I want. Again though, I'm only human. No one's perfect. |

just curious, how much do you weigh in that picture? my input is that you need a more substantial breakfast. 350-400 is a GREAT amount. try it. &i think you should have put olive oil in your lunch. i don't see any good fats in your day. EDIT: yes i agree with appledude. start drinking milk and start eating low-fat plain yogurt with a cup of strawberries. it's the best yogurt EVER that way! |

| Best thing to do is eating healthy for 6 days a week and then 1 day a week eat chocolates etc.... its a good strategy and always works! BTW drink milk everyday :). Goodluck Rez | ||

peavelovehominy- I weighed 106 in that picture. 4-6 pounds ago!
Thank you all for your input. I eat cereal (generally I'll have 3-5 bowls a week with skim milk).. So i get my milk that way.. Plus I take a One-a-Day vitamin every morning as well. |

Cereal is pretty much like my dessert.. Usually honey nut cheerios, special K, or kix..
I thought that the vitamins I am taking also aided in the calcium I needed from milk? I like milk a lot, I have no problem at all with it! I just generally would rather drink water with meals than milk. |

i (personally) don't really consider either of those 3 cereals you mentioned to be truely healthy (honey nut cherrios is so-so healthy to me) try kashi go lean crunch, post shredded whaet, weetabix, all-bran strawberry medley, &fiber one (dry) they are all extremely healthy. out of all those if i were you i'd go for the kashi go lean crunch! vitamins are practically useless. i mean don't get me wrong i take one maybe 3 times a week, but they don't really do much. your body absorbs calcium (&all vitamins &minerals for that matter) better through food. so try tofu, spinach, okra (other dark greens) if you want something more substantially filling for your calcium. my favorite way to get calcium is by getting an 8oz. low-fat plain yogurt (150) a cup of strawberries (50) & 3/4-1 cup of fiber one cereal (90-120) very filling, &very healthy! |
