Closed to New Members -- Looking for weightloss buddies/30 or 40 lbs to lose mialondon
  May 14 2008 15:50

Hi everyone

I'm looking for weightloss buddies - I'm 30 years old, 5'9" and I'd like to lose between 30 and 40 lbs (depending on what I weigh - am going to check the scales today!)

I'm quite shy in real life (i.e. not online) about wanting to lose weight, and I haven't told my family, friends or colleagues about it (although I think my husband has guessed), so it would be really help to have people to talk about it with here.

Hi Mia! I'd love to lose weigh with you. I'm 30 yrs old, 5'6" and 206 lb (down from 231.5 in January yea!!). I would like to lose at least 46 (goal of 160) by next March because I'm getting married next April. I know 160 doesn't sound very slim for my height, but if get much below that I don't like how I look. So thats 46 lb in about 43 weeks so I need to really hit more than 1 pound every single week to get there. Whoo yeah I could use your help and would be glad to help you too!

Should we have a set weigh in day on this thread to check in on each other? Wanna start tomorrow (Thursday May 15)? And we could report back each Thursday?

I'm excited already!

Hey Singinfatlady! that sounds perfect - I'm excited too! Although I'm scared to step on the scale !! Thursdays sound good for me.

A bit about me - I'm 30 years old too, I live in London, England (but I'm American), and I'm 5'9". Not totally sure what I weigh right now, but I'm hoping it's less than 170. My highest was 188 lbs. about a year and a half ago, and I am hoping to get down to 136, which is what I weighed when I was really think 4 or 5 years ago (I stayed that way for over two years!). My first goal is to lose as much as I can before the end of June, when I'm going to a music festival (went last year and felt like an elephant!!), and then my ultimate goal is for the end of September, when I will be visiting my family back in America.

Great to meet you and hopefully we'll both be sucessful! Oh and just curious - where are you from and what do you do?

Hi! I'm in Nebraska and I'm an accountant... which means any physical activity I do has to be intentional because I'm sure not getting any in front of my computer!!!

I agrree about the losing as fast as you can. Ideally I'd like to have all that weight off way ahead of schedule. But by looking at my past weight loss.... it was slow but fairly steady at about 1.5 lb per wk. Plus if you account for a likely plateau or two and the holidays being worked in there... I suppose I'll have to work hard just to stick to the 1 lb/wk average! ARGH scary!!

Yeah, I'm a lawyer - so I'm totally with you on the deskjob! Plus my main problem is that I'm invited to drinks/lunches several times a week, most of which I HAVE to go to. And of course I know I could just drink sparkling water, or bring my own lunches - but in reality that's quite hard to do!!

I walk about 1:15 mins a day (to/from work), but I don't do much more formal exercise. How about you?

And even though I want to lose as much as possible quickly, I know it's best to keep it with in healthy limits - 1.5 lbs per week is pretty good - and it adds up in the long term!!

Hi ladies,

I'd like to be a buddy.  My stats are so similar to Singinfatlady it's unreal.  Currently I weigh 207 (down from 264 at my heaviest) at 5'6" and my goal weight is 160.  My usual weigh-in day is Friday though.  I've been stuck on a plateau for the past five, frustrating weeks.  I had hoped to reach my goal by December 31, 2008 but that's looking less and less likely.  I do work out at least 5-6 days a week (I change it up each week) and eat at my BMR (zig-zagging calories each day) so I don't know what else I could be doing.  Any thoughts?

I'm an introvert myself so we have that in common as well.  I'm 35 and live in No. California.  I'm a patent prosecution assistant for a large law firm.

It's nice to meet you both.

Hi 1aprilfool - nice to meet you!  Congrats on losing so much already.   hopefully we can all help each other, if nothing else we can give each other motivation!!

How many calories are you eating per day, by the way?

#7 1aprilfool May 14 2008 18:19

Hi Mia,

Thanks!  Right now I am eating 1400-1650 depending on my activity level for the day.  My actual BMR is 1654 but I zig-zag my calories each day, some higher days, some lower days.  I calculated that amount based on the formula in Jillian Michaels' book "Making the Cut."

According to this Site's burn meter, I burn 2000 calories each day just living.  So, theoretically, I should lose at least 1 to 1.5 lbs. each week with at least a 3500 weekly calorie deficit.  Right?  Perhaps I have that wrong and am eating too much?

Ugh!!!

Hi, I have a desk job, some walking.

I run 3X week and do elliptical 3X per week and weght training 2X per week.

I am currently about 200lbs, 5'3. I am working on staying @ 1200 calories, but I do travel and on those days it is about 1400 calories.

My sedentary burn is 1920. I do cardio 1 hour per day and because I run outside and there are huge hills I get my intense workouts. I wear a heart strap so I know exactly how many calories I have burned.

I want to get down to 160 or so. I have figured out my body fat % and this would make my body fat about 20% which is pretty good. I wish I could be a petite 120lb person but I was not built that way (much to the chagrin of my husband, LOL)

In the past I have done South Beach (lost 50lbs and have kept it off...) Atkins - YUK, Weight Watchers - not for me, then the starvation diet of 500 calories - not good.

Looking forward to supporting and being supported.

BTW, London is great -I'd love to live there!

1aprilfool, I don't think it would bother anybody if you checked in on Friday's instead of Thursdays.

I actually eat around 1750 calories a day. It's not terribly hard to stick to that way and so far I'm still losing. My burn meter says about 2330 on lightly active and I usually add a couple hundred in exercise a day. I go the gym on my lunch break for about 40 min of cardio. I just got ahold of a personal trainer and am going to meet with her tonight about adding some weights and how do work that in, etc. I figure I'd rather exercise more than eat much less. That way I don't have to starve too much.

#10 1aprilfool May 14 2008 19:10

Hi Singin,

I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around eating 1650 calories and it being okay.  I was eating really low, 1200-1400 and working out as intensely as I always do but I had absolutely no energy and was a giant grump.  :o)  Just last week I decided to up my calories and see if that helps me to get losing again.  I did go back down to 207 from 209 (I've been bouncing between 207-209 for five weeks) last week.  I just hope I go down from there this week.  Sigh.

I absolutely love working out with a personal trainer.  I work out with mine 1 day per week (today is my day) and he absolutely kicks my butt (think Jillian from BL, but without the yelling).  Starting next month, I'm going to work out with him 2 days per week during June-August to see if that speeds up the weight loss for me.

Are you following a particular diet program?

Hi Cawilder,

160 lbs. is my goal too.  I'm 5'6" with a large frame (pretty muscular) so I think that's a very reasonable and attainable goal for me.  I'm hoping to wear a size 12 but a 14 wouldn't bother me.

I have a desk job also and use my lunch hour to go to the gym in the building where I work.  It's free and it gets me away from my desk.  I've tried South Beach, WW and Atkins (HATED it!!) and never really lost a significant amount of weight.  I did lose 20 lbs. on WW just before I got pregnant with my daughter.  After her birth, I went back to WW and could not lose the weight.  What has worked for me is counting calories and making sure I get the right ratios of macronutrients (i.e. 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat).

It's great to find others who inspire and motivate!

Hello ladies!

I'd love to join your lil weightloss group :)  I want to lose 27lbs initially but of course any more would be welcome.  I started out at 156 (currently 154) and want to get down to 129.  I'd love to have encouragement on my journey!

Oh, whoops, I'm 26 and from Missouri.  I am an attorney also :)

#14 mialondon May 15 2008 10:42

Cool - nice to meet you.  And it's quite interesting that we've got a few lawyers and accountants in our group!

Well I had a very unpleasant shock last evening - I finally weighed myself, and I weight 186 lbs with clothes and shoes on.  WAY more than I was hoping - but hey, I guess that's why I'm here.

So from now on my plan is:  1200 calories per day (and be strict about it), except on Friday night and weekends where I will eat sensibly and not go crazy (which is what I usually do and probably is why I weigh 186 lbs!!).  plus exercise (not sure what yet - still working on that one).  Also I need to formulate a plan for social/work situations.  I go out at least 2 or 3 nights every week night for work and also meeting friends (plus weekends).  I don't want to become a hermit, but it is certainly is very difficult to keep to 1200 cals/day when you spend the evening drinking in a pub!    Any suggestions?

Oh and I think we should probably close the group now to new members, since there are quite a few us, do any of you know how to do that?

Alright - back to work - talk to you all soon!!

#15 singinfatlady May 15 2008 15:13

My official initial weigh in for our group journey is .... 207

oh poop thats a pound higher than yesterday... but I ate a lot of quantity for supper last night... mostly veggies so it shouldn't cause long term gain I suppose but it still has weight/bulk of its own so hopefully that will come down.

Not sure how to close the group to new members. Do you just edit the original post so that the subject reads: Now closed? I don't really know.

Welcome kroth & cawilder!!!

#16 mialondon May 15 2008 16:31

Hey guys - okay so I've officially closed the group to new members - so this is it!

Do you think it will help if we try to record what we eat each day ?

Today I've eaten (so far):

breakfast: vanilla fat-free yogurt (75 cals)
lunch:  organic tuna and hummus sandwich  (327 cals)
snacks:  low-fat chips (65 calories) red pepper and celery sticks (12 calories).

I am now really motivated to stay at 1200 - especially after last night - after I found out my weight (much higher than I was expecting) we went out and had fish and chips, nachos and beer.  Have no idea how to even begin to count those calories !!

Hope you guys are doing well

M x

Hi All

I weighed in at 197.8 - I had started at 200 and then went up to 202 (not sure why..)  So a big woohoo on this one.

Yesterday I ate my normal 1/2 whole wheat english muffin, berries, this fiber cake thing from Trader Joes's (my substitute for a muffin), Venti Latte, Tofu with salad, tomatoes, more berries, 1/2 taco bell kid's soft taco, 1 sugar free tapioca pudding

It was 1300 calories.

Today, it's 1/4 of a bagel with 1/2Tbsp of peanut butter, more berries (they are in season here) a fiber cake and 1c of skim milk.  I really need a coffee right now but it will have to wait.

Good morning ladies!

I'm not supposed to, but I weighed in this morning.  I noticed my clothes have been fitting a bit looser this week so I was excited to see if the scale had finally moved down.  Regrettably, it moved up!  Two pounds!  How you might ask?  I have no clue.  I've been working out, eating right, etc.  So I took my measurements, no change.

I don't record my weight until Friday (tomorrow) so I will check back in with my official weight tomorrow.

So far today I've had 1 cup of coffee, 1 cup of organic Trader Joe's high fiber cereal and 1/2 banana.

Hi Kroth.  I was born in Missouri (Hannibol).  Where are you?

Luck with continued success!

#19 kroth311 May 15 2008 18:52

I weighted in today as well and am up one pound.  Boo.  I'm at 155 after being at 154 yesterday...but then again today is only day 3 for me.  So far today I've had:

*Carnation Instant Breakfast Shake (240 calories).
*5/8 cup low fat cottege cheese (113 calories).
*Homemade chicken noodle soup (121 calories)...uh, this is a best guess on this one.  It is really high in sodium tho :(
*Diet Coke --32 oz.  I let myself have soda one day/week.

How are you ladies doin?

#20 kroth311 May 15 2008 18:53

Oh, aprilfool I'm in St. Louis, but I just drove through Hannibal today!
