Name: Bri I have maintained my weight of 180 for almost a year now, down from 200 which was down from almost 250 at my highest. I slacked off on my diet big time, especially slacked off from exercising. I am in college and I am so tired all the time trying to maintain everything in my life. School, work, and something vaguely resembling a social life. I can't imagine having to juggle more! Feel free to send me a message if you stop by here, I'd love to make some friends and have some people to work on becoming healthy with. =) |

im 5'5....finally a forum for us ! ummmm ive been yoy-yoing in the 120s after hitting a low of 116 b4 i went to do my degree in teaching. all that marking went straight to my ass :p start weight:149 ish in Jan 2007 lowest weight: 116 by august of 2007. current: 125 ish i stayed under 120 until about feb when all of the workload hit and i barely went to the gym. ontop of that i pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve in my back (dont really know what it was) and was sedentery for almost 2 months...really painful to exercise and whenever i tried i ended up making it worse and limped everywhere. sooo..now trying to lose it again on a 1200 cal diet...i really want to eat more but i dont end up losing anything. my goal is 110 but id be happy with 115 right now! im really curious about everyone elses calorie intake to reach their goals and what they would be maintaining on afterwards. i found maintaining to be way more challenging than losing the weight. |

Hi , i am 5"5 I am 148 now, my goal is 137 for now. I always was 130-132 pounds but after 30 everything changed. Before it was easy to loose weight, just didn't sugar and bread for couple days and you are back in shape. Not anymore.... I am new on the website, i started on May 8 and really hope that counting cal works. Will be happy to hear how it works for everybody and also to hear tips how you do that. I eat 5 small meals a day and do cardio 3 times a week for an hour. |

lol your freaking me out about geting into my 30s...is it really that hard? ( i think its hard now!) i restarted cal counting and increased the exercise last week too. i was being really strict about my diet last week and i got super light headed during my workouts and midday...so im increasing the variety of foods and upping some fat intake. i found these awesome kosher hamburgers in the grocery store that were like 200 cals less than the other grocery brands. (167 cals for a pretty damn good sized burger). i looked like such a weirdo staring at all the nutritional labels. i guess adding these foods is keeping me from binging on crap b/c of feeling deprived. |

I am also 5'5'', I weigh 156 pounds- goal of 145 (for now). I have just started into my 30's and it doesn't seem that bad, yet. I know they say that once you hit your 30's it gets harder and harder so that is why I started this almost 2.5 years ago and want it done before I hit 31. Good Luck to everyone. |

Yes, sorry about that, didn't want to freak you out. But after 30 it's getting harder to loose weight but not impossible. Now i feel like it's almost impossible when you are 40, but since i joined this website and have read forum about how many pounds people loose, i start thinking that it is possible even in 40s. I really like your tip about jeans on the wall, you look at them every day and it reminds you, better don't let you forget about your goal. i should do something like this too. I have my favourite jeans skirt that i can't wear anymore but with my goal weight, i will be able to do this again. Great :-) I do the same thing now, i read labels looking for the calories first thing. How many times you eat? Sounds like you exercise a lot. I have time to go to the gym like 3 - 4 times a week for an hour or so. Sometimes it's pretty hard to go to the gym after the work, but you force yourself and after that feel better. |

Hi, I'm 5' 5 1/2", 38 years old starting weight 184 currently 170 goal weight currently is 139 but that may change, because of exercise I'm dropping sizes faster than pounds. The last time I was 150, I was still a size 16. I recently dropped to a size 14 at 177! go figure So I may stop in the 140's or in the 130's. Was 132 when I got married at age 27. My story is all over the fitness and motivation fora. I started exercising to treat mood swings/depression whatever it is. It works and then I decided to lose weight while I was at it. That went really slow then I came here and started losing faster. Then my husband moved out of the house and the weight is flying off. I am working really hard on exercising and eating right. I eat about 1500kcal/day and do cardio 5-6x/week. I keep meaning to add weights but I haven't gotten to it yet. I just got my bike fixed so I'm adding that to my workout list. My biggest challenge with diet is replacing the high fat proteins I used to eat with low-fat proteins. When I stopped the 3-egg cheesysteak omelettes I was a loss for protein sources. I'm eating beans daily, tuna several times a week and eating egg whites for the first time in my life. I also drink a protein shake after exercise and greek yoghurt with fruit.

welcome tammy! good thing u started early. indian ppl have this genetic tendency to explode in their 30s so i have my fingers crossed :p turquoise - yeah the jeans thing is really motivating. i stare at it when im at a weak moment and i have like chips in my hand. i try them on everyday to monitor the tightness of the jeans and today they were a little looser than yesterday! yay! honestly a good way to keep it in check is to have it right infront of u. also if u feel like ur going out with ur friends and u might overeat wear the damn thing while ur out (if u can get it buttoned up). ull feel so turned off by how it fits that u kno u wont pig out or make wrong choices! i did the 6 small meals but my body adapted to that and its hard to fit small meals in a low cal diet (im one of those that needs to feel full so id rather have larger meals) so im doing the 3 square meals and throwing in a fruit or a snack near bedtime (the time i tend to want either chips or chocolate). i just graduated and the job market for teachers in toronto is pretty bad so im unemployed so i have time to workout ..which is good and bad! i workout the same amount as u too tho! mrsdagle - if ur dropping sizes more than pounds u must be packing on muscle...so lucky! its easier to watch what u eat when men arent around...! i tend to eat horrible foods around my fam but if im alone i make better choices. add weights to ur workout..u would see the weight drop ALOT. u might like eggbeaters instead of the eggwhites. they have alot of protein in them and they make awesome omlettes. |

hey all, I'm 5'5", about 145lbs my highest weight was in university at 190lbs. All I ate was pizza, white rice, chicken fingers, honey.... no regard for what it was doing to me. I went backpacking thru Europe for 4 months, and dropped to 160lbs. Decided it was time to keep it off, and watched what I was eating. My lowest was 135 about 5 yrs ago. After that, I got comfortable in a relationship, and jumped back up to 150/155lbs. Frustrated, I got involved in paddling sports, and now I am at a healthy 145. I fluctuate between 140-148 daily. I wish I could finally beat that 140 number, but it is a slow go. I try to watch what I eat, and for about 80% of the time, I eat VERY healthy (bring my lunch and snacks to work, make all homemade, whole grain muffins and other treats, etc) but I tend to get sucked into the unhealthy eating at least 2-3 meals a week. I know this is my sticking point, and I need to get past it. I workout a lot. Yesterday I walked for 2 hours, biked for 40 mins, and did a pole dancing aerobics class for an hour. Tonight I have my paddling practice on the water for 1.5 hrs, and warm up/cool down for 15 mins before and after. I am active every day, even if it is only a 1hr walk with my dogs. My goal? To lost the little bit of pudge that I have on my belly. I don't know if there is a definite weight that I want to be at, I just want to lose the belly jiggle. |

Am I the only person who started losing after getting into a relationship? I started overweight (big time) and after being with him for about 6 months started losing, maintained, and now I want to lose again. Though I will admit, I don't eat much better when he's around. =) Mish- I'm with you on wanting to lose the belly jiggle.. and the arms and thighs too. Heh, my big thing right now is I need to tone. Lose weight and tone at the same time. Which means I have to do something I hate, weights. Blech. I love cardio workouts but add weights, push-ups, sit-ups and I check out. I think I'm the youngest one here... and if it really does get harder to lose weight in your 30s, I'm really glad I'm starting now! |

Hi everybody, I wanted to see if I could join your club. I'm 23 years old, 5'5, and 194lbs. My highest weight was 206lbs and I weighed that about a month ago. I'm hoping to get back to 115lbs. I have 2 major problems. I eat very bad and I don't exercise. I don't know how to eat healthy at all. I don't eat balanced meals, I usually just have a big dinner and I snack all day. I need some help learning how to make healthy meals that are easy because I've never really cooked for myself before. Also I need some help with motivation to exercise. If you guys could help me, that would be great. Thanks! |

I am 21 years old, 5'5" and currently about 146lbs. My goal weight is 125 by the end of July. I started at 150 a couple of weeks ago. I have done a complete reversal in my eating habits, from cookies and cupcakes galore to fruit and low cal everything. It has actually seemed a lot easier than I thought it would be. It is sometimes really hard to watch what I am eating when my hubby is constantly pigging out on chips, but I an focusing on portion control and it is helping a lot. At this point, I am not really cutting anything completely out of my diet, but I make sure to only eat the "good" (ie. bad) stuff when I have room in my calorie allowance (1500-1600/ day) and not to do it all the time. For excercise, I have started bellydancing twice a week, which is an amazing way to get some cardio, a little bit of strength training, and to make you much more comfortable with what you've got. My elliptical is getting delivered today & I can't wait to use it when I get home. Also, I have been taking my dog for at least a 30 min walk on the days that I do not exercise. |

5'5'' and a half (yah that half is important ;-) 42 year old and I must say I don't think it is THAT hard losing when you are older, you guys make it seem as close to impossible and such, but *shrug* I don't see it that way, once you find the right way (which you can find right here) it comes down to sticking to it and do your excersizes *BAM* I mean, you might not lose some every day, but nobody does really, weightloss is not linear and well, also I must admit I did Atkins for about 2 years and that is close to being a scientist, so counting calories is a piece of cake in comparison to that. Oh yah, about the weight, I started the whole weightloss trip (well more serious than ever before) in february 2005, I was then 198 lbs, the lowest I got was 165 in march 2006, I graciously stepped off the wagon in october of that year (hehe) for a week, then again for another week in december, this was mostly because somehow the weight would not move anymore and I got really frustrated, as I said doing atkins is close to being a scientist, to constantly 'tweak' your diet to see what the hell you are doing wrong and such, blaargh, still I stuck to it untill last july, we then went to visit my friends and family in the netherlands, not really a problem there, but then we went on a small trip to tuscany, mmk, try sticking to atkins in the land of pasta and pizza, RIGHT, well not me, so I finally stepped off and stayed off the atkins torture, gained all my weight back, to exactly 198 lbs on december 31, LOL don't ask, hahahaaaa, so jan 1 I started my new trip, this time with good old fashioned calorie counting, started working out 6 days a week and am now on a happy 176.8 lbs (as of this morning), initially wanted to get down to 150, but might even drop some more, who knows. I like it we have a 5'5'' thread, keep it up !! |

Jess, you and I should talk. =D I have slacked so bad on the exercise, getting home late and being told I can't go out to walk doesn't help either though. >.<
Soli, I'm glad to hear losing weight is still going well for you! And as for Atkins... I've never heard anything good about that diet, especially once people go off that diet. Luckily, calorie-counting isn't so much a diet as it is... keeping track. =)
Ah, boys! I hear all sorts of jealous comments from my friend about her husband who eats and eats and is skinny as can be. I'm excited to hear your thoughts, now it is time for dinner so my headache will go away. |

wow i cant believe the forum is still going..usually 5'5 forums die out after 2 posts. oh man...low carb diets. i did it (south beach) for seriously 2 days and i was crippled with headaches. id rather watch my calories and have a carb addiction than have those migraine-dizzy days! princessjess - i used to eat out of whack too. honestly the amount of cupcakes i would eat in a day and call it a night without batting an eyelash..i had no idea what a calorie was. eating healthy can start by first figuring out what ur cal intake would be. since u dont cook it could be a challenge but i guess u could start slow by replacing junk food with healthy snacks such as fruits and veggies. i think its really important u get in the habit of cooking a little bit or preparing cold meals. it teaches u how to cook healthy and make good food choices. do u need menu ideas? |

Hey all, I'm 22 and somewhere between 5'4.5" and 5'5", depending on my choice of socks. I joined this site a month and a half ago at 190 lbs, started counting calories and exercising to have at least a 500 cal deficit most days, and gained 5 lbs :( :( But then all of a sudden 10 lbs dropped off in like a week :) :) :) :) So I've been maintaining at 184 for a few weeks because I have final exams and have so much more to worry about than calories, but I have been keeping up with the exercise. Despite all these weight fluctuations though I remain a size 16, somehow. My goal is to get back to a 10.
The biggest help was getting the bf on board with the running, we're running together 3x a week now doing the "couch to 5K" program. I've been a runner before so I could probably run harder than that if I wanted but I got pretty out of shape over the winter (too cold to run outside in Wisconsin in winter!). Plus it's so much easier when you have a running buddy. |

Hi Folks, I am 21 and getting married in three months. My starting weight was 148, I am trying to get down to at least 130 or lower by the time the wedding comes around. I am on 1250 calorie diet right now and it seems to be working out! I have lost 3 pounds already! Woot! I am excercising at least 4 times a week with cardio and weights. Coming from being able to eat anything I wanted and not gain weight in my teens I have seen a steady increase in my weight since starting on the pill. Has anyone else gone through this?? |
