Hi all,

I just finished my first year in college and I gained 22 pounds.. i'm 5'4 and am now about 152 pounds... when I went to college I weighed about 130 pounds and still had a very big stomach... I just started slimfast today and am joining the gym tomorrow. I feel like nothing will work because I have never been this heavy my whole life. None of my jeans and shirts fit and it sucks. I am also getting a lot of criticism from everyone because of my weight gain. my target area is my stomach.. that is where I gained the most weight.. I am very embarrassed to wear shirts that show the shape of my stomach and are a little bit fitted. I've never felt like this before... anybody have any tips???????  I really could use some... maybe any diets I should try or ANYTHINGG =( Thank

Just diligently count your calories and exercise as much as you can. Try jogging. I've been counting calories and jogging (6 times a week for 30 minutes) and I've lost a ton of weight. No need to go on any specific diet (at least that's my opinion), just use common sense when deciding what to eat, count your calories, and exercise regularly. Everything should then fall in line. Good luck.

Edit: Use the tools on this site to determine how much you should be eating. You'll need to input your details (height, weight, age, etc.),

Don't worry-- there is hope! I just finished my second year of college, but the year before, I had gained about 20 pounds during my first semester. I know how easy it can be to pack on the pounds when you're away from home, but it's definitely possible to get fit, too.

I managed to lose my Freshman 20 by totally changing my lifestyle. This website helped so much. I counted calories religiously during the summer between my freshman and sophomore years, got a membership to a gym, and worked out about 4 days a week. I switched to a meal plan of 4 to 5 small meals a day, and I SWEAR by my favorite meal of 1 cup of Kashi GoLean cereal and 3/4 cup of Dannon Light 'n Fit Nonfat Vanilla Yogurt (mixed together). Only 200 calories and soooo filling and delicious, especially with some cinnamon sprinkled in!!

To be honest, I was really scared about gaining the weight again once I went back to school in the fall. But I managed to keep it off, excluding a few pounds gained during the holiday season. So, it is possible! Just try to form some really good habits of choosing healthy foods, eating regularly, and exercising enough over the summer so that you can keep that up in the fall when you go back to school! Good luck!

Don't worry. Its in the past. No point in beating yourself up over it.

EVERYONE gains weight their freshman year. College is a time where you can't really avoid unhealthy habits. Late night snacking, pullling all-nighters, drinking, greasy food...Just take it easy. Use this summer as a new start and keep a good regimine. You'll be fine.
