| Logging my food before I make it! | ||
| May 11 2008 02:45 | ||
This is getting ridiculous. Due to stress, I lost my appetite for a week and had a hard time eating enough. I started to log my food before I ate it. That kept me on track and eating enough to exercise and heal. Now I'm logging in food to make myself prepare it. I look at the "analysis" and tally up what I can eat to fulfill my goals. Then I log that food and set out to make it. Does anyone else do this? It's helpful but I think it's getting ridiculous. I don't want to depend on the food log to make good choices. |

I do it as well, and it is getting a bit tedious! I think once I get used to eating healthy (still relatively new here) I'm going to try to wing it for a day and see what I end up with. Though I do create my own recipes and I like using the tool to figure them out! I worry that I will get tired of logging and fall off, but I'm hoping that once I get a good amount of recipes down I won't have to do it so much, lol. I suggest just sticking with it until you get back into a routine and have a good idea of what you need to incorporate into your diet to meet your goals. Then maybe you won't have to "pre-log" so much. |

Alot of people will actually reccomend that you do that. At least then you will stay away from high calorie foods and make better choices. Since you have a plan to stick to you are less likely to go over your calories for the day since you know what will make you full. I normally log my food while I am making it or just before i eat it. I dont have a "plan" but that is just because i never have plans, even for my day. so I never know where i will end up that day and what food choices will be available to me. I can understand not wanting to depend on a log to make good food choices but I think if you do if for a while it will just become habit. |

Yeah, today it's worse. I'm not hungry, only ate 300+ calories (it's almost dinnertime) and I just logged a bunch of food so I have to eat it. |

| i usually do it the night before ie; right now im making my meals to fit the calories i want to consume. tedious yes but it helps keep me on track. although every now and then ill eat something different or go out - it doesnt cosume my life and its okay to now follow and have cheat days or w/e else. its only "ridiculous" if its taking up all your time, or you are afraid to not follow it fo fear you will eat something unhealthy or ladden w/ fat cals. etc. its a tool to help not hurt! as long a you have it in check you should be fine! | ||

At least looking it up ahead of time is a really good idea. I got caught once where I had a breakfast sandwich from Burger King and when I logged it, I found out that I had just eaten almost all my calories for the entire day! |

I'm afraid of overdependence and force-feeding. I've always gotten such pleasure from food and now it's just another chore. I logged in dinner, it was about 700 calories and so I only ate about 1000 kcal for the whole day. blech Today is a workout day so I have to eat more than that and have already started. |

Knowing a tiny bit of what you are going through (another thread). This is going to be difficult. I've been there.
Logging is a bit of a double edge sword. If you don't log you're not aware of your totally calorie intake. When you log ahead (which I do too) if feels like you can't adjust from the "original" plan. I log at work for the whole day then don't touch again until the next day. Try to look at it as a tool to help you. Good luck!!!! |

i log first thing, it helps me to decide on what i want to eat, and if i have an indulgent dinner planned (like pizza n wings tonight) i can figure out what i will be eating the rest of the day (lots of celery lol! jk). im also less likely to log later, and then i have no idea what ive eaten. |

I definitely do that at dinnertime. I plan what I'm going to make, then log it in before I make it, in order to stay on track. Otherwise I'll just get silly. |

a couple of my favorite sayings come to mind; "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." Benjaman Franklin "Let our advance worrying become advance thinking and planning." Winston Churchill I don't think you are being ridiculous at all, actually quite wise. Take care! |

Thanks for the encouragement, y'all. I have issues with codependency/dependency. So, I'm worried that I'm using the log as a crutch. But yeah, I"m finding better ways to eat by reviewing past menus and combining flavors. |
