Apparently drinking way too much didn't hurt me!??! jospe

So I am just really shocked about this and wondered if you thought it was strange. I have been using CC since Feb and been pretty darn religious about counting and staying in control. Well Thursday I went out and drank alot...like 8 Mikes Hard Lemonade and at least 4 shots of tequila. Sad, I know and I am sure I was not a pretty sight!  Anyhow When I got up yesterday I thought for sure I was going to have put on at least a few pounds.  Not that it is that big of a deal at this point I am sure I could get right back on that horse and start counting and losing as before.  But when I get on the scale I have not gained but actually lost 1.5 pounds!!  I was like WTH??  So I think ok I am dehydrated and made sure to drink my normal 96 oz of water yesterday plus as much more than that as I could possibly handle.  When I get up today I am still at the same weight.  I know about the "cheat day" thing and I understand that stimulating your metabolism is supposed to be a good thing but continuing to lose after that much drinking really just shocked me!  I am not in a hurry to do that again or anything and really plan to pretend it just didn't happen!  lol

well that is good that it didnt make you gain. I only weigh myself once a week and at the same time of the day otherwise i am all over the place on the scale. my weight (weighing on the same scale but diff. hours of the day, diff. days of the week) flucuates 1-3 lbs at any time. It is really weird because a day after I have drank alot sometimes i feel skinnier. maybe that was one of your days that people say you can use to "shock" your metabolism and maybe you needed it since you are so good about staying on track w/ your calorie counting! well i hope you had a fun night lol.

I know it seems like most people weigh once a week but I am one of the ones who has to do it every day.  I do fluctuate during the week but I have learned that is just the way it goes.  I weigh at 5:30 every morning after going to the bathroom and just before showering(without clothes).  Yes I did have fun...but I am smart enough to know it was most likely a fluke.  I won't try it out again until July when I will be going to a Luau party.  lmao  Innocent

i just thought about it and maybe weighing yourself every day does help since it is a constant reminder to yourself on how much you actually weigh. I might actually start to do that to motivate me a little bit more!

Well if you do just don't forget that you will fluctuate..I certainly do.  The every day thing for me has just been part of my "routine".  I'm afraid to break that up because I have learned I need consistency!

It doesn't always show up right away. That's happened to me before. Just be diligent this week.

I was wondering about that dharma..  Luckily I have actually started riding again this week and I had 80 miles in before today and we wanted to make it to 100 but unfortunately its raining and going to until tomorrow afternoon.  I suppose I should hit the eliptical tonight, sigh.  Oh well I know I deserved that day so I will just have to take what comes with it.  We have to have a party sometimes!

I drank 6...yep 6!!! Madori sours at my hubby's company christmas party and didn't gain any weight from it and lost 2 lbs and kept them off the next morning...the only extra exerciseing I had done was walking around and danceing a little at the party....So I am thinking it's a pretty normal thing for us that don't drink a ton very often....maybe

I used to drink A LOT, 3-5 times per week, (6-10 drinks per day), and I've always been within 5-10 lbs of my goal weight. I'm actually considered "normal" now. I've also always been very health conscious, (with food), never calorie conscious. But I never saw it budge the scale either. After long periods of living that lifestyle I started noticing I had a gut, yet still no weight gain. I'm no expert but I wonder if it actually has an effect on muscle mass. Such as trading muscle for fat. It's still really kind of unexplainable to me. Some say they can't lose a single lb drinking yet I didn't gain a single lb.

But as for your one night, I think your in the clear. In fact it may have been just what your body needed. The subject still interest me. You know your not going to find a bunch of experts running around advising ppl to drink. Lol. :) But just for the record, I only drink once a week now. IDK! (1.5 lbs down in 2 weeks WITH diet and exercise too though.)

I used to drink a lot of beer (Sierra Nevada) and am currently drinking heavier again.  However, the majority of the weight gain with drinking was the eating fattening food right afterwards.  When I moved from home and not eating out as much, I lost all that weight and didn't gain when I drank.  When I got together with my husband, we drank and ate out a lot or kept fattening foods at home.

Currently, I'm drinking but not eating afterwards and on good days, I make calorie allowances for drinking.  I don't even want to tally up the beer calories from last night.  Yell  Oddly enough, the day after I drink I exercise a lot.  I think that helps.

odie - you are right, alcohol DOES have an effect in that way, specifically it impairs your body's ability to turn fat into energy.

Many people on here say "a calorie is a calorie."  I have found this is just not true.  What you eat, when you eat it, how much you eat of it, body composition and workouts all factor in different ways to weight loss.

here is an exerpt from the a study on alch:

Some evidence for this comes from research carried in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition [4]. Eight men were given two drinks of vodka and sugar-free lemonade separated by 30 minutes. Each drink contained just under 90 calories. Fat metabolism was measured before and after consumption of the drink. For several hours after drinking the vodka, whole body lipid oxidation (a measure of how much fat your body is burning) dropped by a massive 73%.

Rather than getting stored as fat, the main fate of alcohol is conversion into a substance called acetate. In fact, blood levels of acetate after drinking the vodka were 2.5 times higher than normal. And it appears this sharp rise in acetate puts the brakes on fat loss.

You tallied up all the calories for that day, right?  Killer-diller!  Some people indulge in cake once in a while.....some people tequila!  As long as you're smart about it....salud!

You've probably figured this out by now, but alcohol is a diuretic. So you probably were a bit dehydrated.

I was going to comment on the same thing.  I'm always down a bit after a night of drinking, even if I eat more than I should.  I'm also usually kinda on the thirsty side, so by day two, I sometimes find that I am back up and often a pound or two more til I stablize.

I'm interested in learning more about acetate.
