Frustrated and in pain tweek264

Need outside feedback on this. Sorry it's long.

First off, I have Ulc. Colitis. I was diagnosed in sept. '06. I managed to get it under control after I stopped taking the meds. They were making me sick, I couldn't walk etc... I've been taking vitamins ever since and have felt relatively normal since about dec-jan '06. Just recently I started feeling it again. It's not as severe as when I first got it. I haven't gotten fevers or anything, just cramping & the "need to go" alot. I don't plan on going back to the dr until I feel nec because I hate them and all they ever do is push pills on me that make me feel worse. The problem I am having is eating/working out. I wake up and do my elliptical in the morning, go to work (yes there's stress there and I hate it, but I gotta work). When i get home, I usually do 2 workout dvd's (Jillian Michaels, she's a beast) that total about 50-60 mins, then I walk on the treadmill for 30 mins. All I consume throughout the day (as of lately) is a protein shake & coffee in the morning, then a shake after I workout. I can't eat more at work, 'cause i'm scared it'll make me "have to go" plus it gives me crazy gas pains when I try and workout later. I've been doing this no eating during the day thing for about 3 weeks now. It drives me crazy because I can barely get thru my dvd's without having to stop 5-6 times to go you know where. Is it even worth it? I never quit, just pause it, then restart when i can. It's been taking me at least 15mins longer just to get thru them. Plus lately when i try & walk on the treamill, i have to walk slower now, because i get this crazy cramping pain in my side. Again, i don't quit. Running isn't even an option because of the cramping pain that comes along with it, walking is tough enough right now. Now don't get me wrong, I still eat a normal dinner and have snack later, but I pay for it either in the night or the next morning (thanks UC!) I have mostly been able to hit the 1200 cals a day, but have fallen under a few days from sheer exhaustion & falling asleep before I can eat more.

That's my problem. I'm frustrated I cannot function normal, I feel like a slug if I half ass it, my boyfriend & mom are telling me I'm pushing it to hard. I'm exhausted, but I can't bring myself take a day off. I'm afraid I'll never start again. I still have weight to lose. I hate the way I look in the mirror. I have lost about 5-8 lbs over the past 2 weeks, but i gained back 2 (funny, i thought you had to eat to gain). Kinda feels like a slap in the face. At least losing made me feel a little better about putting up with the pain. I'm 27, 5'6, 135 now. Ideally i'd like to be around 125-130. Now I have a constant pain in my upper right abs under my ribs. Hurts when I breathe deep or move. Hoping it's just a pulled muscle or something, but who knows. I just wanna work out normal and not feel like I'm wasting my time. Am I really benefiting from all this exercise if i have to keep stopping 'cause of my stupid body? help me please.

Noone likes  having to see the doctor, but from the sound of it that should be your next move.  I agree with your mom and hubby that you are pushing it too hard.  When you are in a flare with Ulcerative Colitis the added stress of just exercising can make it worse.  You should be resting when you aren't working and giving your body a chance to heal itself.  Have you tried using fiber and eating yogurt?  Ask your doctor about those things.

I had severe episodes of diarrhea much as you are describing.  It was bad enough that I had to use adult diapers especially at night.  I had a Upper GI and a colonoscopy done and the docs suggested I use fiber 3 times a day.  It has helped more than I thought possible.  But as I said...you need to see your doctor and talk with him, as well as ask about using fiber and alternative methods to correct the problem.

Not a doctor, but sounds like a gall bladder problem -- eerily similar to what I went through many years ago...

Go to a doctor

Thanks for the responses. I do eat yogurt pretty often, activia actually. I don't eat that kind because of what they claim, because believe me, I am not irregular, I just think it's really good yogurt. Plus I eat cottage cheese & eat bran flakes. I haven't much lately due to not eating a whole lot, but before all this, I was eating it on a regular basis. I also take a bunch of vitamins everyday that have fiber etc...flax, fish oil, psyllium husks, a probiotic. That little cocktail has kept me away from the doc for over a year. As far as the gallbladder thing goes, I was looking up some stuff about it and it sounds pretty accurate. My dad almost had to have his out and it's kinda what I was thinking. They did say the problem could go away on its own. It's hard to get good rest though because either the UC is kicking in in the pm or I can't get comfortable because my side hurts. I suppose I'll eventually break down & go back to the doc, but I know he'll wanna give me another scope and I just don't think I can go thru that prep again. Now that I know what to expect that is. Plus he isn't very easy to talk to. I was actually thinking about trying to find another GI. I don't know. I appreciate the feedback though.
