| Why do I want to EAT? | ||
| May 09 2008 23:28 | ||
So for the past 3 days I've been eating 1800 cals a day, up from 1700, which was up from 1500. Last night and tonight, even tho I'm finished, I keep getting the drive to eat even tho I'm not hungry. I'm controlling it at the moment, but why is this happening? Is my body just recovering from the binges I had last week? I haven't really exercised at all this week, if that means anything. Sorry if this is just my body doing something weird and no one can answer, but thanks for taking the time to read it if you did! Edit: Oh yea and its not TOTM either. |

hey. i had the same experience like yours too for about a week. i couldn't stop eating and got so bloated. if u feel like taking a bite out of something, maybe it's because you are craving for something, look out for the flavor, is it sweet, salty, sour, spicy? i realized that when i put food in my mouth even when i am full, it's because i was craving for certain flavor of foods and u tend to eat a lot cos u r looking for that taste. my series of eating-even-when-i'm full stopped after i ate what i really wanted, which was stg spicy and sweet. hope this helps. |

Well, it's kinda with everything I eat :/ It's gone away now, but I'm scared it's gonna come back later! When will it go away? Also, is 1800 calories too much? |

Can you give me a sample of what kinds of things you are eating and when?
Try eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each should be rich in protein and fiber - both keep you full. Also, are you getting adequate nutrition? Take a peek at your analysis page - are you getting enough vitamins and nutrients such as iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium? Do you include all of the food groups? Are there any foods that you find that you are snacking/overeating the most? Another factor could be, as vanillasky21 mentioned, flavor. Studies have shown that people eat more of a bland food and less of a flavorful food. For example, someone would be tempted to overeat on unseasoned chicken rather than chicken with a spicy sauce. |

are you trying to lose or trying to maintain? if maintaining, you probably need a bit more than 1800. |

cel301, i'm trying to maintain. I'm eating pretty flavorful stuff...but I guess I'm not getting all my nutrients. I don't get much protein from animals and I don't get enough calcium. I am working on it tho. I do think I eat way too much pb, but right now thats my only source of protein, so, you know. :) I'm already eating 5 small meals a day. :/ Thanks for your responses. |

Are you a vegetarian? If so, you can try lowfat dairy and whole eggs as sources of protein. Lentils and beans are great, too. It's easier not to overeat foods that you cook.
But if you do continue to have peanut butter as a main protein source, if you eat it plain, try eating it with something else. Spread it on whole wheat bread, a bagel, english muffin, whole wheat tortilla, or a pita to make it go longer. |

I'm pretty much vegetarian, yea, just because I'm paranoid of raw meat and can't cook it myself and my family doesn't make it, so yea. I've been looking at the protein content of a lot of my foods lately. The oatmeal I eat has 7 grams of protien per half a cup, and I eat 3/4 cups. Plus I have pb ontop of that. I've recently considered eggs, and yea thats a great idea. How many grams of protein should i be getting in a day? |

Many people on this site have different opinions as to how much protein is "too little" or "too much." About how many grams do you get in a day?
I usually get around 50g, but I realized that that wasn't enough. Recently I've included more eggs in my diet along with opting for more protein-rich foods, especially for breakfast and lunch. Now I get at least 80g, usually more, and I feel much more satisfied! Plus, I'm getting some sweet abs. :) I always wanted to try PB in oatmeal. You could also try cooking eggs in your oatmeal. Sounds odd, but it's yummy. I like it best with cinnamon and banana. |

I don't know your stats, but 1800 is how much I'm SUPPOSED to eat to maintain. Vegetarian sauages and eggs are both very satisfying and keep you full for longer (poached egg on wholegrain toast with tomato sauce makes a truly great breakfast!), and when I really can't resist binging I make these carrot-apple muffins which are super-filling and only 100cals each (would be even less if you use splenda, but I don't want to eat chemicals). |

I've been eating constantly lately too, though that's a good thing for me, it just drives me crazy because if I can't eat every hour or so I'm starving. Some days its even worse. I think my metabolism is whacked out. I went on a bike ride last saturday and for the next 3 days I felt starving every 20 min no matter how much I had just eaten. I'm not sure what advice I can give you other than to just listen to your body, if it's telling you it's hungry it must be for a reason. If you're not hungry and just bored, try doing something else to distract yourself and reevaluate how you feel after a little while, if you still want to eat then, go ahead. muttlover: I add eggs to my oatmeal sometimes too! Just had to comment on that because I thought I was strange lol. I also have some vanilla whey protein powder that I mix into oatmeal or cereal, yogurt, hot cocoa, anything I put milk in. Or I make smoothies a lot with it and it has about 20 g protein per scoop! malaika: I'm going to try those muffins! Chemicals freak me out too and I try not to eat them, but its hard once you start actually paying attention to the contents of your food, I've found it shocking how much unnessesary junk gets added to what we eat. |
