Type skinny bitch into forum search. Lots of thoughts will come up.

Getting nutritional advice from models makes about as much sense as getting a workout plan from a pro poker player.

The stupid use of four letter words five times each sentence makes it almost unreadable. It's like listening to a three year old who learns to say f'ck

i read it last summer, and...although it's said in aggressive, tough, kick-ass style there is some truth behind their not-so-sweet words. It's one of the main reason I use soy milk...i've been a veggie all my life so i didn't concern myself about the meat section, although I have been brought up eating fish...a habit i am lowly changing.

the better you eat, ie more organic, naturally produced less additive foods the better, i have yet to ween myself off diet coke even though the book completely and utterly condemns it... i did enoy reading it, found it enlightening but i don't follow it completely, i take the bits i like from their advice.

I haven't read it but I want to applaud j-fizz for not blindly following some extremist book and taking its advice with a grain of salt and following what works for her....

There are some people here who treat that book like a bible....its kinda scary

UGGGHHHH!!!!!

I hate this book! I was raised a vegetarian, I eat mostly vegan since I have difficulty digesting dairy & eggs AND I NEED TO LOOSE WEIGHT!

Most people who know me know my diet choices, and I keep shaking my head as they read this book then ask me to send them all my veggie recipes so they can be skinny. I mean seriously LOOK at me, I'm not shamu but I am struggling with my weight.

It's turning vegetarianism / veganism into a fad diet. Think about it people bread, pasta, beans, tofu, tempeh all high in calories, all staples of a veg diet!

I tend to agree with the post above taking healthy weight loss advice from a model is about as realistic as taking fitness advice from a pro-poker player.

There are tonnes of books out there that can talk about healthy weight loss, vegetarianism and veganism without being sensationalist and generally misleading.

Yep - I'm an overweight vegan - some of the best chocolate cake recipes are vegan ones!! Frown

You can do some pretty unholy things to a vegetable. It's not difficult. I mean WHOO french fries

I could easily live on bread and beer, but I'm guessing that's not what a vegetarian diet is about.

WHAT! Bread and Beer is not what a veg diet is about?

OOOHHHHH, *that's* where I went wrong! Laughing

I don't get it either. I'm hoping one day they announce a diet rich in bread and beer is the pinnacle of health then everyone will hold me up as the standard of which everyone can only dream of reaching.

I bet you could write a book saying exactly that and plenty of people would buy into it.  Just come up with a catchy "The (something) diet" name for it and have a celebrity carry a copy around and you'll sell millions of copies.

I own the book... read part of it and skimmed the rest... it was of no value to me what-so-ever !!! One book I do happen to like that I just bought was The hungry girl book - it's mainly recipes and such but also different ideas on eating... it has gotten some bad reviews by  CC members for promoting processed foods, But I like and recommend it...

i read it and started eating a veg. diet. it did help me eat more fruit, veggies, and other good stuff but....i didnt lose. i think i actually gained. i started eating meat again (mainly poultry and fish) and im losing....

I heard about this book, and I've heard good points about it, but all I want to know is.. Will it be a waste of my money if I was to go out and get this book. A friend told me after another girl get's done with it she will pass it down.. She hated the book..  Let me know what you think when you get done...

#17 bugsylover May 10 2008 12:43

i love this book. it's entertaining and the authors make some valid points. however most of their opinions are really extreme and i would suggest you take it with a pinch of salt. don't follow it like a diet plan, read it, read other books too, and make your own decisions about the way you want to eat :)

#18 jef May 10 2008 13:37
I loved this book!,

I think as long as you realise that a veg*n 'diet' isnt a weightloss plan (mmm.. vegan cookies + marshmallows!!) and you dont follow the advice blindly.. no harm done!

Its an amusing, informative book.. but it isnt gospel.

I totally agree with the last two comments. I did become a vegetarian after reading it, but that combined with the PETA videos was the final push for me. I was already on my way to that point. And their constant swearing didn't bother me, I thought it was quite humorous. Again, just take it with a pinch of salt. It's pretty informative and funny.

#20 jansherman May 10 2008 17:29

I also agree with the last three posts. I have the book, and have read it a few times. It didn't totally change the way I eat, but it made me more aware of where my food comes from. I don't eat beef or pork anymore (only partly because of the book) and have found that my mysterious stomach aches have gone away, and when I stopped eating it I lost about 7 lbs. pretty quickly.

If you don't mind the swearing, it can be an entertaining read. I think they try to use shock value to make a point, but they are passionate about their opinions, and I commend them for that!
