| But how can I realitively safely lose about 10 lbs. in two weeks. This is not how I normally diet, but I'm going on a cruise and would like to lose some of this weight, actually, my goal is 17 lbs total. Any advice? | ||

Just curious...when did you know you were going on the cruise? :P |

I'll second that question and raise you another.
If you do lose ten pounds in two weeks, which is highly unlikely, are you prepared to gain all of it back plus more? Please just eat healthy for the next two weeks, do not consume under 1200 calories + please eat back half of what you exercise. Enjoy your cruise, no one else is going to care about your weight on the cruise. They will be too into themselves. |

If you crash diet for two weeks you might lose more than a safe amount of weight, but you'll also be exhausted, irritable, and no fun on your trip. Also, chances are you'll lose muscle tone first and the scale may say you're down X pounds, but you'll look flabby, and if you're not getting the right nutrients your skin will show it too. What might be more fun is to lose 2lbs/week the healthy way, start a bit of weight training to really define your arms and look better in sleeveless stuff, then go get a haircut or whatever else would make you smile and walk around more confidently (pedicure, eyebrows threaded, new sunglasses). I bet the cruise itself is what could kick-start some new healthy eating - rumour has it they chop up all your vegetables for you (always something I get lazy about so I skip salad :). |

If you crash down 10lbs for the cruise unfortunately you risk gaining 15lbs by the time you come home. What you can do pre-cruise and during cruise, however, is to base your meals around lots of fruit and vegetables, sip plenty of water and get some daily exercise. In 2 weeks you could lose 5 or 6lbs quite easily. And if you carry on with that policy while you're on holiday, who knows... you could even come home lighter than when you left! :-) |

| You can really only expect to lose 2 lbs. of fat a week so even if you do suceed in losing 10 lbs. in 2 weeks you will have lost more muscle than fat so you will actually look worse, as in fatter, than you do now. Take the advice from the posts above. | ||

Lean on a counter while you stand on the scale. |

I've lost 5 pounds since Friday. I've been dieting since January so I know it is not water weight. It really depends how much you weigh. I'm in hte low 200's so it is easier for me to drop more weight than someone who weighs 145. Do at least 30 minutes of cardio a day and eat lots of fruits and veggies and protein! Don't forget to take you're vitamins though! Also you might want to cut the carbs for the next two weeks if you want to drop some "puffyness". I'm not big on the low-card diets but I think they make you lose weight more quickly in the first two weeks by not eating any carbs or sugar. Hope this helps! And why did you wait so long to start dieting for a cruise? lol shame shame procrastination is never good! :) |

Hey, everyone! Thank you for bringing me to my senses and offering great advice. Actually, I just found out this morning about the cruise and panicked! The low-carb diet with excercise is a good suggestion, especially since I have noticed some puffiness in my face recently. That does happen when I gain weight anyway, but more so recently. I also like the idea of making myself look the best I can (pedicure, etc), and leaning on the counter when weighing myself. And best advice was no one is going to care about my weight, they're too into themselves. You're all great!! |

As everyone has said, you'd never keep off the 10 pounds if by some complete injustice to your body you even managed to lose them in two weeks. You also wouldn't really be losing much fat. Instead, start eating healthy now. Two weeks is enough time for many people to get into a groove with healthy eating. It's enough time for me, I know. Once you're committed to eating healthy, are feeling healthy, and have probably lost a couple of pounds, it will be easier to stay on track on the cruise. And bonus: you'll actually keep the weight off. |

You could always pull a "Biggest Loser" in the next two weeks and work out for 7 hours a day and eat nothing but healthy stuff and lose about 7 lbs per week......... I'm sure some of the other suggestions sound way more appealing right about now, huh? Have fun on your cruise, you'll have a blast no matter what you weigh. |

If you watch what you eat you can loose like half of it and that is in a healthy way ....and getting halfway is not that bad either, right?:) |

When you first starting a HEALTY lifestyle choice/ weightloss can you drop quickly the first couple of weeks.
The weight would be predominantly water if you reduce salt levels if too high. Keep off foods that increase bloating. This would give the effect of losing weight if you eat stodgy. Wear clothes that draw attention to your best bits so you feel more confident. Just a few ideas :) |

I don't think a diet is what you're looking for... You want to look better in a swimsuit, right? If so, a diet will probably not help you any, because you won't look as good after two weeks of starvation!--and dieting isn't going to give you the results you want. Instead, tone your muscles--that is something you can get results for in two weeks. Weight training is surprisingly fast, and in women it does not result in bulky muscles (you simply don't have the testosterone) but in more of a defined shape. You want to go towards high numbers of reps with low weights, rather than the other way round. This kind of workout is actually semi-aerobic because you are moving rather quickly. Combine that with a sensible diet and you should have your goal "look" without losing dangerous amounts of weight. You don't want to have to go to the emergency room instead of your cruise, right? Thought not... |
