I've been doing it for a week now, where you eat a bowl of special k cereal for 2 meals and then one regular (lunch for me). Ive lost 2 pounds, but i wanted to see if anyone else has tried it and if they had good results?
i tried that- but the cereal just didnt keep me full enough- i would suggest healthy food w/ low cals it will do the same thing. to me that cereal was puffed air b/c i was always hungry!
Tried it once, only made through 2 days. I might have lost weight if I had stuck with it, but I just couldn't. I found myself hungry within 30 minutes of eating a bowl - Special K just isn't very filling.
Special K as a snack is okay, but it's not one I would use as a meal in and of itself. I don't particularly recommend it for the lack of fiber alone, but the "diet" also lends itself to monotony - not only was I hungry, but I got bored with it. (Same thing happened to me with Slimfast).
However, if you can stick with it, get enough cals in for the day, and balance out your nutrition, yeah, it can work. But I also don't recommend it long term - it's not very sustainable, and while easy, doesn't teach about having a healthy varied diet.
on edit: And as I, and others, have noted on other threads on this topic, there's nothing magical about Special K as a diet food. You could do this with any number of low calorie, and more nutritious, cereals. The "diet" as marketed is really just a way to get people to buy more Special K products.
All the Special K diet does is cut calories to a ridiculously low level. In fact, I think they've changed the diet to include their protein bar and snack bars because the calorie intake was too low. I did it a few years ago and it did work. I also cut out juices and soda and had a rather small third meal so I was cutting my calories to like 700 a day. Of course, when I began eating normally again it all came back. I think the 6 pounds in two weeks is mainly just water weight.
I suggest getting the protein plus version of Special K and just eating it for breakfast with some fruit and then change up your meals for lunch and dinner within your calorie allotment. Your body will hate you if you only feed it puffed rice.
What a coincidence I'm eat Special K right now as we speak! except... im on my 2nd serving and im eating it with yogurt.
Gigi, do you actually go by the rules and only have 1 measly cup for breakfast?? how do you do it???
How many calories a day does that end up being for you? I am really concerned it isn't enough food to stay healthy and you need a minimum of 1200 calories a day. And that is bare minimum.
I tried it once for 2 weeks and lost about 5 pounds. It is just a way to reduce your caloric intake. I love cereal, so I found it pretty easy. I noticed over time though that my one sensible meal of the day became less and less sensible. I think it's a great jumpstart to losing weight though.
I lasted just over a week, I got so so bored.. even with the different flavours of cerial available.
I lost about 3lbs, and of course put it all back on and then some. It made me feel a little deflated, because i could never finish the 2 weeks.
Silly really, nothing is better than gradual changes in eating habits. Its a silly fad diet like so many others. (imo).
So you're supposed to cram the vast majority of the protein you need, plus your 5-7 servings of veggies into one "sensible" meal? how does that work?
Some stupid celebrity is banging on about how she lost two stone in just one week by eating special k alone. Seen it advertised in a few mags but go figure even if it was all this celeb had eaten then she would of had to have exercised like a maniac to lose burn the calories to lose that kind of weigth.
Yeah whatever
I tried the special k just because im love special k so much i too love it with yogurt and bannana or rasperrys, but it just isnt filling enogth and they know this as about 5 years ago it was advertised as 2 bowls, two weeks, 1 meal and now its advertised as 2 meals ,2 bowls/bars, two weeks.
Thanks for all your replies guys,
passion_tea: i follow the rules-- sortof. Ive been doing the cup for breakfast and the cup for dinner but i have a lot of snacks during the day to keep me full too, like yoghurt or fruit. I tried just the cereal alone for one day and almost starved!
nycgirl- i appreciate your concerns! ive been logging the calories, i get about an average of 1,600 a day wich i dont think is that bad considering before i was eating about 2,500 to 3,000. But like i said earlier, i've also been trying to make my snacks healthier. I don't follow all of the other diet rules like the protein water and the bars they give you... too much special k for me!
After reading all these it made me realize i need to make sure i get all my other important nutrients in for the day like fibers and protein. Thanks once again!
We have a new Special K Diet thread and no response from Spiro? Is she feeling okay? ![]()
Yeah, with such diet you'll lose water weight, some fat, healthy metabolic rate, and muscle. Joke in all of that is that after you're done, you will gain all the water back, slow metabolism will make you gain weight more easily, lost muscle weight will only deepen this effect (more muscle=higher metabolism = burning fat faster). Your fat will be back in no time.
So if you are interested in walking around skiny for a month and than getting bigger than you are now: that's the diet!
I tried such diets numerous times. Yes, I would lose weight, but it would always go back double. The only way I lost 58 pounds was through healthy balanced diet and exercise. It took longer, yes, but I've been maintaining for 3 years now, I have strong nails, shiny hair, and soft skin... Never better!
sprio's got the flu- and i couldn't aspire to come close to posting as eloquently as spiro (except when I get amped up by something... but anyway- special k diet is my MAJOR pet peeve right now w/their crappy overblown diet-media hype)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE -
MOVE AWAY FROM THE BOX OF SPECIAL K-
(and those useless darn protein waters of theirs)
eat- eat like you love your body & your self- eat to keep your insulin consistent & spread your calories out over the day so you feel like you're full & in control so as not to overeat-- you'll feel better... & lose weight that will STAY off vs come right back on after you throw that box out the window bc even seeing it makes you want to vomit out of hatred & boredom
ugh, none of us who've done this right on here can NOT reiterate, an excessively low-cal diet where you replace up to 2 or 3 meals with an excessively low-calorie, low protein, mid-carb enriched processed substitute is NOT a healthy way for replacing actual nutrients from real food!
listen, my dinner was about 250kcal- and it was 5oz chicken breast, 5 egg whites, and a TON of garlic, spinach, mushrooms, and zucchini! my plate was COVERED in delicious real food! and it was low-cal, full of protein, and exceedinly nutritious!
you can do this too & feel more human & have successful, nutrious, healthful weight loss!
just my 2 cents-- please eat real food!
Thanks to you guys, i just quit! i cant do it anymore. I NEED REAL FOOOOD! read my other post and give me advice please?
