Can you suggest some foods for me?

I am really having hard time deciding on what foods to eat. Here's my situation. I average about 1200 calories per day. I am looking for something that is low fat, high in protein, low in carbs, and low in sodium. I've tried, but it seems like I can't accomadate one of these without brutally sacrificing another. Low sodium and low carbs are the most important. (I consume twice my allowance for sodium and am over my carbs by about 50g). So, besides the obvious meat and veggies, is there something that any one else knows of that will work within the confines of my allowances?

Ah, I have a hard time looking for those foods too. I suggest maybe tofu and low sodium cottage cheese.  Unsalted nuts are also great, but they're rather calorie-dense, which seems like something you're trying to avoid.

are you eating a lot of prepackaged foods?

unsalted almonds are my best friend.

I stayed away from nuts because of the saturated fats. But I only consume about 2g a day, and my allowance is 12. So I think I need to get some nuts. And yeah, I am eating a lot of prepackaged foods. I know that's killing me on the sodium. It's just that I'm by myself for like two to three weeks out of the month, so I don't like to cook because I can never eat all the leftovers before they go bad and it's too expensive just to cook for one person.

Raw nuts.. o_O

Beans!

obviously not canned as they'll have a lot of sodium...actually you could look for low sodium canned.

realisticly you just need to try an get away from packaged foods...or look for ones that have no, or low sodium

tips on cooking for one person...make meals you can freeze...soups...like chili, minestrone have beans in them...meatless chili is very healthy, easy to make and all the beans are good for protein. I get those gladware bowls make  a big batch of soup/chili, freeze most of it in those bowls then you have mealsize serving and all you have to do is reheat, plus you don't have to eat all of it at once(so you don't get sick of it) and if you do this say every other week...depending on the size you make to begin w/ you could come up w/a variety of things...

oh don't freeze noodles though, they fall apart when you reheat them, if they're in the soup I cook 1 serving seperately when I'm gonna eat it. potato/cheese based soups also don't taste quite right after being frozen either...broth/tomato based are the best

crock-pot meals are also often good for pple  who don't like to cook and leftovers can often be frozen to.

you'll find freezing leftovers makes cooking for one actually cheaper than all that pre-packaged food too.

Kashi Go-Lean is the most perfect food we have found.

One cup has 13 grams of protein 1 gram fat and 10 grams fiber

all that for only 140 calories

plus-it tastes good!
Egg whites fit and are cheap and easy to cook for 1 person, add veggies for flavor and to be more filling.  Salads made with spinach, mushrooms, tofu/tuna rinsed, few unsalted nuts, low sodium cottage cheese, with balsamic vinegar is good for lunch.  All of that is low enough in sodium that you could add an oz of cheese to the salad or egg white omlette.

Since I am on a low sodium diet, I can suggest you a site named Eat Low Sodium . The site can give you ideas about what kinds of foods you can order and eat without increasing your sodium intake. I try to keep my sodium intake under 1,500mg per day, which helps me a lot with my vertigo problem. I hope this info helps you too.

Plain yogurt fits that criteria.
