binging and metabolism

i wanted to know what binging does exactly to your metabolism. does it speed it up, slow it down?

i realized after binging and overeating every single day for a bout a week, that after returning to my normal healhy eating habits, i seem to get hungry quicker (before, i rarely felt hunger: only felt it if i hadnt eaten for more than like 10 hours or so. but i eat atleast every 3 to 4 hours). does being hungry quicker mean that my metabolism got a boost and is working faster? or does it just mean that since my body got used to the excessive amount of food, it expects to still get that much?

 so yeah, exactly what kind of effects does binging do to your metabolism, and is it different if u just binge one day or if u binge repetitively for a whole week or whole month, etc.

bingeing speeds up your metabolism but i don't think it speeds it up enough to burn the entire binge.

your probraly more hungry becuase your stomach expanded from all that food idk though could be wrong

Hah, this is kinda what I am trying to change by joining this site, I'm a total pro.

I just binged 5 days this week and have been paying for it this weekend:/

Anyway, from my experience and all of my knowledge I have gathered, binging initially speeds up my metabolism but by breakfast the next day I'm at a stand still. Consuming such high volumes of food at once takes more time for the body to process and sometimes I've noticed it seems I'm not even fully able to digest it. Before I know it, third day of binging, I might not go to the bathroom for a week or at least until I consume a high amount of fiber and this tends to be very uncomfortable and I am sure it's not the way your body is supposed to work. My stomach just accumulates all the binges I have had in a row and doesn't let them go, it stretches and stretches until all I want to do is sit on the couch and maybe even eat more to make me feel better.(hah!)

Binging just one time opens all kinds of doors for me to keep eating more than necessary through the next few days, so metabolism faster for a second or what, I never ever trust it. Once you pop the fun don't stop, lol... 

Once I start binging I cannot stop because I remember the cravings for carbs or sugar or salt that I had lost from going without for so long eating healthily... (these items can be physically addictive, consuming a large amount is similar to an alcoholic just taking one drink after going through AA and then going all out on a bottle of whiskey as a result.) The stomach stretches immensely after binging and therefore has more room for goodies until you whip it back into shape. I'm always hungry after binging, until I take a little break. You do not need to eat most likely, your stomach is evil and greedy because it has room to spare!

Such a sh***y habit to have, honestly! I can't wait to start this week new tomorrow.

i dunno what it does to your metabolism but yeah i m interested to know.....i get hungry quicker after binges but mmh i dunno

well, i'm not sure of your definition of 'binging'

but to me, it means that i get to eat a little bit more (like a melted cheese and onion baguette - big one) and i get to eat something like a milk chocolate cookie.

although, i think binging is only for one day a week tops and obviously, binging does not mean stuffing yourself so much that your stomach is gonna explode and your gonna be sick or something!!

I half-binged once or twice, always a week between, but i lost weight the next day and kept it off so that was good, but like i said, no dramatic binging and don't binge at night, if your gonna binge, binge in the morning or before 11am-12am. That way your body has a chance to digest it properly and you also get a chance to burn it off if you then decide to do some exercise.

so, to answer the question, i think binging does help if you do it once a week after i.e being on a low calorie diet like 1200-1400 calories but it will not help AT ALL if you do it for an entire week (that'll just make you put on the pounds)!!

but like i said, in moderation.

Uh..actually freehugsx3, that's exactly what binging is. Eating uncontrollably, to the point (and possibly past it) of physical pain.
i was gonna say that binging is  stuffing yourself till it hurts and its painful....thank ilisa u did it 4 me
ok i know what you mean, and yes binging is that, but what i ment is that if you wanted to get the pounds off, you have to change you vision of binging into something less.

because sooner or later, you'll have to face up to it  :)

i used to binge like that, but now, i count to 10, look at the food and think to myself, i don't have to eat it, what's it gonna do apart from throw all my hard work down the drain again?! No way.

If i desperately still need to eat it, i eat reallllly slowly and only half at a time so i can have more time to think and less tramping around looking through the kitchen for more stuff to stuff myself with :S

Well, what you're describing isn't binging at all. Just because you're over-eating doesn't mean you're binging. Binge-eating is disordered eating behaviour and usual involves the binger to feel a lack of control while repeatedly shoving food down his/her throat. If you allow yourself a treat once in a while, that is NOT a binge.
