My name is Kieron, I'm 17 and new to the site. I'm a junior and homeschooled and wondered if there were any other homeschoolers on here. The curriculums I'm using right now are Math-u-See, Apologia, LifePacs, Switched-on-Schoolhouse and a literature curriculum that I'm kind of constructing as I go. My favorite subjects are Literature and Science, but Math is growing on me now that I actually understand what they're talking about. :-)
How about you?
I use LifePacs as well, and I really enjoy them. I'm in seventh grade this year, so I'm apparently a lot younger than you, but it's nice to know there's some other homeschooled people on CC. x33 I'm doing Math, Language Arts, Science, History and Geography, Bible, and Health right now, but next year I'm going to be learning Spanish as well.
i'm not homeschooled. but i wish i could have been! you guys are lucky!
statistically, you guys will have a higher SAT score than me. (even though i never took the SATs!) =P
I love homeschooling. It's 8:00am and I'm almost done with my work for the day. *sigh* It's a nice life; I have a lot of free time to practice my art and photography - which I love. x3
And homeschooling also allows you to learn at any level you can manage. In public school, I was in advanced classes my whole life, and now I'm doing 8th grade work, even though I'm in 7th. It's awesome.
I love Literature, Drama, Language studies, and (to some degree) Algebra II. P.E. is something I most definitely enjoy, but who doesn't? xP
I am homeschooled for multiple reasons, but since my mother's religion is one of them, we use a Christian curriculum, complete with a course or two of Theology. I was raised Christian, but I am an apathetic agnostic.
I am also considering going to public school for the twelfth grade, but I probably will end up staying homeschooled. It's just a very good level of education, I think
Hello, I'm Hannah, and I am also new to this site.
I am 15 years old, and in ninth grade. I use: Math-u-See Geometry, Exploring Creation with Physical Science, (my grammar book is basically a supplement for my research papers: that way I'm covering history and grammar at once :-)), and the Bible.
I started homeschooling in sixth grade, and it's wonderful. My other siblings (two younger) are also being homeschooled. It's nice finding other people who are homeschooled!
My favorite subjects are definitely science, math, and history.
Hey, I'm Erica and I've been homeschooled since preschool, I'm finishing 10th grade and am turning 16 this april. Being homeschooled is kindof a mixed blessing for me, because I have a big family and sometimes it really sucks being stuck with them all day, but I do enjoy watching public school kids complain when you tell them about all the things we get to do and they don't (like sleep in! )
Our family used to use only a program called BJU (bob jones university) its a university down in south carolina that broadcasts its classes. But I used SOS and a couple lifepacs this year. The nice thing about being homeschooled is definatly how quick you can get your schoolwork done. I finished all my other subjects before christmas except for math :(
The reason we homeschooled was because my parents didn't want us growing up with the influences that can come with public school.
Hi, I'm Bridget and I used to be homeschooled (I'm in my 20s now); I never went to school.
I used the Saxon Math (does anybody else use that and what do you think? It worked for me until I hit the Trig in the Advanced Math book and came to a screeching halt, lol) and Wordsmith Craftsman for L.A. I recommend the Seton Gr. 11/12 Reading List for good classic books, though it is a bit heavy on the 19th century Russian literature for some reason. What I did was take each author on the list and read through a bunch of their books at once so I got a feel for the author, not just read the one book listed.
I'm glad I homeschooled, as it gave me time to concentrate on my music studies (now I'm a piano teacher)...but I think with my kids I want to keep homeschooling and school as equal choices and use them to tailor an educational program to each child---even if that means having a homeschooled kid, a kid in school, and one that takes a couple classes here and there and mostly learns at home, all at once. Hmm. Not sure if that will work, but it's something to try!
Hey, I'm Char and I'm 15 years, 6 months, and 25 days old as of today. I'm in 10th grade and I'm using oakmeadow and HR&W. I've been homeschooled since 1st grade, though last year I attempted to attend a charter school. I made high honor roll and my teachers adored me, but I much prefer homeschooling. I got bored rather easily and I often found myself begging teachers for extra homework. I guess I like school a tad too much.
I adore Algrebra (I know, I'm weird)! For some odd reason, I've always loved working with numbers; it's one of my favorite things to do! I currently need to gain weight, so I've turned my weight gain program into a Biology project.xD I'm going to see what foods make me gain weight best on the same amount of calories. Hey, at least it's unique!
being homeschooled isn't for everyone, but it is just right for me I think.
So i was wondering..do you guys get all the repetitive questions about homeschooling? Like do you get to wear your pajamas all day? Or do you get to sleep in all morning etc. etc.
One girl asked me if homeschoolers were taught by nuns..but she was a blond..
My dads a preacher which is kinda like two strikes..I homeschool AND i'm a preachers kid...we're dual enrolled in a local high school so me and my sisters go out for sports there..it was really awkward at first but now I love love love it..anybody else go out for sports?
I'm home schooled, but only since grade eleven, I'm in grade twelve now. I have a love hate relationship with it. School gave me anxiety, but I miss the social interaction. I hate how everyone thinks I must be either a) raised as a very strict socially awkward Christian (I'm atheist) or b) a psycho tree hugging flower child. Needless to say, I am neither. There's a school I pick up my courses from and where I go to take all my tests, they are strictly a correspondence school. I also hate that this school is typically thought of as a last resort for problem teens, so if I'm not a flower child, or destined to be a nun, I must be a hellion.
I'm homeschooled, I'm in like, ninth grade, I think. =] I haven't worked out of a curriculum in years, though... Currently the only thing I'm actually doing is math, working once a week with this NASA engineer that's married to one of my mother's friends. >.>; I've been homeschooled since kindergarten.
" I hate how everyone thinks I must be either a) raised as a very strict socially awkward Christian (I'm atheist) or b) a psycho tree hugging flower child. "
Hehe, I hear you. Wish I had a dollar for every time I heard "You're homeschooled? Wow, you're so normal!" Movies like 'Mean Girls' don't help much.
Well... i was.
I stopped when i was 16.
Erm, i never did much work though.
My mum wasn't very strict/enthusiastic when it came to homework lol.
So, my life's really just been one huge summer vacation i suppose.
But, shock horror, i know how to read and write and do maths and all that jazz :P so I'm not a complete hillbilly.
Being home-schooled had its pro's and its con's...
Pro's:
I didn't become a typical smart ass school child (woo hoo *thumbs up*)
I didn't have to deal with the whole rude/cruel school child society.
I didn't have to get up early in the morning and i didn't have to do anything i didn't really want to.
Con's:
I wasn't pushed to do anything if i said no more then 3 times (or so).
I lived in the middle of nowhere half my life so haven't made friends since i was 8...
It's lonely and boring sometimes.
I now have difficulty focusing on academics since i didn't learn how throughout my childhood.
Mmm :) now i'm babbling, sorry.
Take care all, happy holidays :)
C.
Hi, I'm new to CC (about 4 days here) and I've been homeschooled since 5th grade. I'm 17 and in 11th grade now. Schools around here (in Oklahoma) apparently don't allow homeschooled kids to do sports but i' m on a homeschool volleyball team. I mainly use Abeka curriculum (except for bible, i skip that part). I like the actual studying part of being homeschooled, but i miss the friends. Most people in my homeschool group are a bit strange.
i really want to graduate early. im taking a course of math at the local community college over the summer to get a couple college credits.
my mom wanted me to homeschool too, so i could graduate early and get a job before i went to college to help with expenses. but then the news about the whole "colleges dont accept the homeschooled" came to our attention.
