Low Sodium Foods

Up to right now I havn't been watching my sodium intake, but I notice i do eat close to 5000mg of it. I need to reduce that any ideas for like a Lunch/Dinner that has low sodium? Even snacks as well. Since i seem to go straight for the salt.

I just posted a bunch of stuff in here...

Thanks for these posts -- I'm really going to make lowering my sodium a priority. I had over 6000 mg yesterday.

I always thought I ate a very low sodium diet until I've logged in my food intake here. I do stay at or slightly below 2500 mg, but I never cook with salt, and I never use table salt. I'm shocked that my sparse use of prepared foods adds so much sodium! Mostly salad dressings and other condiments are adding up the sodium count.

Best wishes to all of you trying to reduce the sodium content!

I've also made it a priority to reduce my sodium intake and have decided the most effective way to do that would be through meal preparation.  I recently bought a really awesome cookbook from Borders called 500 Low Sodium Recipes.  In addition, I've been finding creative ways to reduce the salt and season staple meals my family really enjoys in a tastier way.  Good luck in your efforts!! Smile

Here are a few recipes I've adapted that are very easy to make for lunch or dinner:

  • Baked Italian Chicken Casserole
  • Cedar Plank Baked Ocean Perch
  • Cheesy Cajun Hash Brown Casserole
  • Italian Hamburger Casserole with Organic Tri-Colored Pasta
  • Louisiana Hot & Spicy Ocean Perch--Oven Baked
  • Low Fat, Sodium, Cal Spaghetti Bake
  • Low Sodium Baked French Fries
  • Low Sodium Blackened Chicken
  • Southern Homestyle Low Sodium FRIED Catfish
  • Tasty Low Sodium Shepherd's Pie
