I make a pot of coffee every morning and have a bad habit of drinking coffee until noon instead of eating breakfast or a snack. Then around two I eat lunch, and then cook super and have it ready at around six thirty. I get a great deal of calories from my coffee, but how bad is it that I do this everyday?....I'm trying to gain weight....
I don't know how bad this is, but I can say this... Coffee (especially caffienated coffee) will probably go against your weight gaining goals. The reason is that caffiene is a thermogenic, which is a basic way of saying it burns fat. I used to drink about a pot of coffee daily myself, but I've cut way back down, to maybe 1 cup per 3-4 days. When I hit a wall with my weightloss, I'll be sure to add more coffee as it will help with the fat burning. Be sure that you don't skip breakfast or a healthy snack. Those are just necessary in order to have good body.
if you get a lot of calories from the coffee and are trying to gain weight then i dont see it as such a bad thing... i just dont understand why you cant just throw in some fruit, cereal, granola bar, yogurt or something in there with it? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, can't you have it AND coffee too?

calvinator -- I never realized this! I stopped drinking coffee before CC because I was having alot of stomach problems(cramps at night etc). Amazingly, all of the problems seem to have stopped since I gave up the coffee! But I think after awhile I might just have to try incorporating some back into my diet sloooowwwly.....drink some every other day, if it really does help burn fat!!!
You're gonna screw with your heart if you drink too much coffee. I was guilty of abusing coffee and I got wicked heart palpitations as a consequence. I had to give it up all together. :(
How do you flavor your coffee? If you drink it black or with calorie-free sweeteners you are not consuming too many calories at all but if you put cream, sugar & milk then you are definitely racking up the calories - yowza, you should be gaining weight in no time!
Coffee is high in antioxidants but getting too much may have to adverse effects like being jittery, not being able to sleep & a reved up heart rate.
I would try and cut back a little bit and perhaps eat some protein in the morning!
You would certainly be better off cutting back on the coffee and adding some healthy food calories to your morning.
giasbash she says she does get a lot of calories from the coffee, so I am assuming she adds cream/milk/sugar etc... and forget 'some' protein in the morning, just eat something!
I agree with anaxandra any calories from the coffee are pretty much empty (cream=saturated fats, sugar=simple carbs, and milk, well any 'nutrients'/calcium/protein or whatever that is in milk would probably be cancelled out by the caffiene content, so again kinda useless)
I still don't understand why you just can't have your coffee AND eat real food too. Like it's such a simple concept, is it not? Grab an apple, some oatmeal, maybe peanut butter too and you've got a simple easy breakfast with complex carbs, fats, and protein... short on time? invest in some protein/nutrition bars or shakes and eat on the go.
If your tummy has that much room for coffee, I'm sure it has room for food too =)
Add some vanilla protein powder to your coffee and a bit of cinnamon. You'll get a lot more nutrition and calories in your coffee and it will taste like a vanilla latte sort of. I also add milk (actually almond breeze - after all the threads on soy or not soy or milk or not milk I decided to go with almonds), because I like the flavor better.
If you don't feel like your cholesterol is high, no worries, right? Wrong. High cholesterol gives no warnings and could be deadly.
