How much do you want to lose? I would be happy with 15lbs but 22 would be amazing. I have to say I am only on day 4 and it really seems to be working for me. I have had to really cut back my portions to stay around 1200. Not managed it yet more like 1400 but I am sure I will slowly lose anyway.
I was so depressed wedding dress shopping as I felt like an elehant trying to imagine myself in a dress that was 2 or 3 sizes too small!! I will look again at the end of Feb when I have lost about 9 lbs. That should help.
I want to lose the weight now not a month before the wedding. Plus I am doing it for my health more than the wedding as my BMI is 27 something.
Do you want to try and help stay motivated?
So you know the old saying, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." That is me! I have two weddings in which I am a bridesmaid this fall and would love to be a part of this! Weddings are always great motivators for weight loss and beginning a healthy lifestyle forever!
My sister was a size 14- 16 before she was married. She changed her eating habits to healthier foods and actually included exercise in her day to help accelerate the weight loss. It did not happen overnight or without a few setbacks but, she wanted this for herself and that is what motivated her to keep at it! Not only did she lose the weight, she has kept it off three and a half years later. She is rejuvinated because she is active and healthy!
Who cares about the smaller sizes at the dress shops! You fiance is marrying you for who you re today, now in the present. He obviously loves you as you are not as you will be! That is something you should always remember!
My wedding is also in Sept. 2008. The dress shopping was a nightmare because when I went, I was humiliated to find that the size tens were 5 sizes too small for me! I had not started my diet at that point but the dress took 9 months to be made (it's still in progress) so I had to order it then, despite the large size. I had to order a size 20!!
Here are my stats: All time High: 230 lbs. Weight at time of dress purchase: 209 lbs.
Current weight (after dieting for 3 months) 180.5 lbs.
I would love to be 150, and eventually I'd like to be 140. I have not seen the 150's since 2001! The dress is just gorgeous though and I have never been this determined to take the weight off once and for all!
I, too, am a fall 2008 bride. I was supposed to be a fall 2007 bride, but that crazy money thing is just too hard to gather in NYC!
I already bought my dress (a size 12), and I'm now 10 pounds lighter. I'm hoping to lose another 40 by my wedding date, but I know that's a longshot. But I certainly would much rather take my dress in than try to let it out.
Good luck to all us brides trying to shed a little extra weight for our big day!!
I am getting married July 31, 2008 in Mexico. I need to be down 40lbs by then. I refuse to even look at dresses until I am at least 140lbs. I am 164.2 today and trying to get to 127. I hate the fact that the dresses are sized so much smaller than real sizes!
To help me, I have set mini-goals and can lose 1-2 lbs a week and be able to meet my goal. I also have been working out 6 days a week, pilates everyday, alternate cardio/weights with Friday's off to have a beer.
I started on 1/1 and need help staying motivated.
Hello! I am getting married 8-8-2008 and hope to tone up significantly prior to then. I am trying to pay attention to losing inches and not necessarily judging my progress by what the scale says, but that's a tough habit to get into because I've always trusted my scale as my guide. Logically, though, inches (and being healthy) are all that matters!
I don't need to lose a ton of weight and because of that I don't feel like I "fit in" on many of the weight loss forums, but we're all brides here and just about every bride wants to tone up & lose at least a little weight for their wedding day, right?! Ok, well I guess that excludes those brides that actually need to gain weight, but the majority of us fall into the "losing weight" bucket, I'm guessing. After all is said and done, I would like to lose around 10 pounds and tone up for my wedding day.
I bought my dress last August and I bought the dress in the size I was at the time. I've heard over and over to NOT buy the dress in a smaller size because you want to lose weight prior to the wedding. So I obeyed the "wedding laws" and settled on my size 10. I normally wear a size 6 (sometimes an 8), so that was slightly discouraging (darn those inflated wedding sizes!). My dress actually hides a lot of my trouble areas (thighs, tummy), but doesn't hide one area: my arms. So if I lose inches anywhere, I hope they come from my arms! But you can't hide anything on your honeymoon (if you'll be in a bathing suit at any point)... I guess I'll have to work all of my trouble areas!
Now that I've hit the 6-months-to-go mark, I've started really paying attention to exercising and eating right. I'm not necessarily on a strict diet ~ I just want to eat more fruits & veggies ("pure foods") and fewer processed/fatty/starchy foods. As for exercise, I've bought a few new workout DVD's and a new elliptical machine. I love working out at home as opposed to going to a gym. I try to work out 3 times a week, but hope to ramp that up to 5 times a week by August.
I've seen so many brides lose a lot of weight and look great for their wedding day, and I just keep telling myself: If they can do it, why can't I do it??
What are everyone else's plans for exercising & eating healthy?
Hello Ladies,
I need all the motivation I can get. My wedding is August 22. so it is getting close to fall. So I just have to lose it faster.
HOpe we can help eachother
I'm get married November 8th and I hope to lose 35 lbs by then! I haven't been dress shopping yet - i'm so scared! It's suppose to be a fun day but I'm nervous it's going to be filled with tears - and not tears of joy! I plan to look for a dress on about 3 weeks - I've lost 5 lbs since starting CC about 2 1/2 weeks ago... I would like to lose 10 more in the next 3 1/2 weeks - that goal may be a little high but oh well! Good luck to you! Hopefully we can get there together!
August for me :)
I'd like to go for about 15 pounds by then (goal weight ~ 115). I've already got my dress (fortunately, I'm a relatively small [okay, short] person to begin with -- only 5'3" -- so that wasn't too painful, although some of the dresses definitely didn't zip!), but am waiting as long as possible for alterations!
I am totally with whomever it was who said that the arms need to be TONED! Strapless dress = no hiding in photos! What are y'all doing to tone up those arms/shoulders (and the rest!)??
Anyway, I'm getting married August 3rd and I'd like to lose at least 10 pounds and tone up. I've been working out regularily, but the dieting is NOT going well. When I get stressed, I eat. So I'd love you guys to keep me motivated on the food front.
As, for getting toned, I do have some tips. For the strapless girls - focus on toning with free weights. Skull crushers, tricep dips, and tricep curls all great for toning the back of the arm jiggle. Curls are great for biceps. Also work on toning back and shoulders (this will make your waist look smaller -- very tricky!) -- lateral pulls, pectoral fly, and shoulder press are great basic exercises. These are all pretty easy toning exercises that will make a difference quickly and only require you to invest in some handweights (5-10 pounds, depending on your upper body strength) If you don't know how to do these exercises, you can find directions online...or ask your finaces, they probably know how to do them.
Ok...who has diet tips for me???
Im getting married Sept 27th, 2008 and this is exactly the forum I have been looking for. I'm trying to get down to a size 4, or lose about 10-15lbs (whichever comes first) before the wedding. I'm a size 6 now, but mainly Im looking to drop a few pounds and tone up.
Im worried about the strapless dress and toning those arms too! And waiting to drop some weight before alterations (I bought my dress about a month ago). I don't have any tips for anyone, aside from I excercise regularly, and am keeping my calories around the 1300 range.
I find that mixing up intervals in running works best for me, switching between a pace of 5 and 9, and every couple weeks I up my elevation on the treadmill to keep my heart from getting accustomed. I also train on the elliptical machine for 20 minutes after my treadmill workout, and then go for about 300 crunches and 10 minutes of free weights.
I'm a part time fire fighter, and we have a gym at work, so they let me workout an hour a day, provided I dont have to work a wildfire. I wish everyone the best, and I hope the weight loss and wedding planning is going well!
I know the added stress and pressure of losing weight for the wedding has been making it harder for me :-\
