I am well over 400 pounds and my over all goal someday is to lose more than half my body weight so I can have knee surgury.
Is anyone else over 300 or 350? Maybe we can give each other support.
i was wondering that too. God bless us every one who wants to work at becoming a better, healthier, "you", but alot of the profiles I've witnessed are talking about 10-15 or 30 lbs from the holidays. I've noticed most posters are women and alot of the are talking about getting to weights from 100-150 lbs. I'm having trouble finding like minded/(situationed) folks, man or woman that are, as it states in this site "seriously overweight"
I'd be glad to help in any way I can, I'm doing this completely on my own and in the first week have gone from 345 to 328 not starving! I have tried eveything in the past 9 years. atkins 4 times (even lost 64 pounds in 4 months on first attemt) , south beach, mayo clinic, six week body makeover, and Ill tell ya; as a classic overeater who always ate healthy foods: fish, chicken, salads, vegies, lean red meats, low fat milks, fruits, and hardly any sweet "dessert food" , counting calories, what goes in vs. what gets burned, has been the quickest result, felt the best, and no hunger pains that cannot be satisfied. The other advantage of starting out rather heavy. your body will natturally burn more calories than most where you don't have to start out with goals like 1200-1500 calories a day wich for some is tough. You'll get to reduce your maxinun calorie alottment gradually. Also, the more activity you add when your heavier will have a larger impact the calories in vs cal burned ratio. I could not have even made it a week if I had to stay under 1500 a day. About half of my days ended up around there and I didn't go to bed hungery.
anyway, if you need some heavy hitters, Im one of them and willing to help any way I can God Bless! Rod
Hello and welcome aboard!
My name is Molly and when I started on this wonderful site back in August, I weighed 369 pounds. Since then I've lost 73 pounds and now weigh 295 pounds ... with more to go (of course!) I post my menus in my journal if you are looking for ideas on how to "spend" your daily calories.
I'd like to invite you to the thread for people with starting weights over 300 ... CLICK HERE.
And here are some tips and thoughts on GETTING STARTED (and staying on track!)
Please let us know how we can help!
=^..^= MOLLY
Unfortunately, yes on both counts. I just started counting calories a week ago, and was 376 pounds when I started. I'm now down to 368, with a goal of 200. I'm male, and 5' 11", and should probably be even less than 200, but if I can make it there, I'll be thrilled.
I decided I need to lose weight after my wife and I had our first (and only, so far) baby. Looking at my son made me realize that I really want to be around and be healthy as he gets older, so I need to lose the weight. It's tough to overcome years of bad habits, but I think that the community on this site will be a big help.
I hope you don't mind, but I've added you as a friend. Maybe we can help keep each other on track.
I just joined the site today on the recommendation of my daughter. She's a member as well. I weigh 308 right now which is close to the heaviest I've ever been in my life. My highest weight ever was 325. I'm 38, been married 2 1/2 years to my second husband, and we are both worried about what my weight is doing to my health.
My bad cholesterol was ok at my last doctor's appt in December but my good cholesterol was only at 26 and my VLDL was at 46. I really need to reverse those two numbers. I had to have a heart cath this past summer along with my gall bladder removed. I have PCOS, sleep apnea, and my hip joints, knee joints, and back hurt constantly. My blood pressure was high last summer but I've got it back down under control now with diet alone, although the doctor put me back on my blood pressure meds to slow down my heart rate. I don't have diabetes (yet) but my dad is diabetic and my mom's lvls are close to diabetic range. I've been lucky so far that my blood sugar levels have always been normal.
I know the problems that I'm experiencing can be taken care of with weight loss and exercise. I joined weight watchers back in 2000 when I weighed 325 and lost down to 201 but when my sister died of breast cancer in 2002, I just turned to food to help me deal with the loss and I'm just now getting to the point of turning away from food and realizing my sister would want me to be as healthy as possible and killing myself isn't showing her memory any respect. Not to mention the stress it puts on my husband worrying about me having a heart attack or something because of my weight when he's at work.
That's probably also another factor in my weight issues. My husband is a towboat captain. His job takes him from home 28 days at a time so cooking healthy isn't really something I do. I do quick and easy because it's just me here. Plus, the turning to food for comfort due to being alone so much. I do eat much better when he's home. I know I've got to continue that when he's gone as well. It's just so much easier to fix a sandwich or something instead of cooking healthy. That's a habit I've got to break.
Anyway, that's enough about me. I really hope to make some friends on here and give/receive support in this long journey ahead of me. My first goal is to make it to 280 which is a 10% loss (Roughly) and then to get down around the 200 mark by my 40th birthday in March of 2009.
Here's something that I hope will give you some motivation. A very good friend of mine was over 400 pounds two years ago. In fall of last year, he got under 200 pounds, and he just sent me pictures from his 'hitting the goal' party. He's certainly motivated me. I was 310 pounds at my highest weight, my goal is 200, and his success has given me hope!
