I went to a cabbage soup diet site and they said that people can lose up to 9 pounds in just a week by following it religiously. Is this true? Because...I could go for that. They call it a "kick-start" and I could definitely use that. I've been stuck at 160 for 3 months. The best part to me was, it seemed like a real site. Not one of the fake ones that cost money or need you to sign up. It was free info on the cabbage soup recipe, diet plan and warnings. (the fact that they gave warnings was an indicator of truth also) Basically they said not to do it for more than a week at a time with a 2 week interval and that kids shouldn't do it. Of course, maybe I'm gullable and just want to beleive it's real...but if it really does work I'd like to know. Because then maybe I could force myself to stand the smell of cabbage cooking for a week lol.

Thanks.

Sure it works, for a little while.  Then reality sets in and you know you are going to gain part of the weight back and you have been eating like some kind of a nut for a week or two but yep it does make most people lose weight.

I personally like the soup in the winter time to keep in the fridge and eat along with normal eating.  It is a good filler and keeps the metabolism working for me.
SURE, how about eating nothing at all for a week, you might lose 10 lbs!  Seriously, you have to know that this is unhealthy and any time you drop below calorie needs that you will lose a lot...but also will gain it all back, even when choosing to eat healthy b/c you deprived your body of the nutrients it needs.
hey maiden!

Would you post the site where you found all your info?

I made my own low cal cabbage/veggie soup with more nutrients (I think). It's yummy and I can eat it until I am full AND feel good about it. ( ;

thanks! O.
Thanks for the comments.

But honestly, I eat so healthy I shouldn't be overweight anymore. I eat something like 1000 - 1600 calories a day but it's in NOTHING bad lol. It's all salad or skinless, boneless chicken or fresh fruit or blah blah blah. It's getting so old. I haven't had fast food or resturaunt food since March and it seems to have gotten me nowhere. (vanity wise anyways)

This is the site. http://www.cabbage-soup-diet.com/recipe.html

I dunno..I'm willing to try almost anything here. I'm getting way behind on my goals and I can't seem to lose inches or pounds anymore. Completely not eating is out of the question. I'm completely useless that way and I can't do much of anything lol. Plus theres the whole headache thing.

Thanks for your time though.

Are you exercising?
I've seen this topic a lot on motivation forum (as far as plateau goes).  I remember a poster saying she broke through by upping her calories to maintenance level for 2 weeks and then went back down to 1200 and started losing again.  Also, minimum is 1200 so maybe your metabolism has slowed down (if you consume 1000 calories, your metabolism will halt b/c it thinks it is starving).
Actually, the cabbage soup diet doesn't necessarily put you into starvation mode.

I mean it allows you to eat as much as you want of certain things on each day, so you could make it so that you're eating 1200+ calories of really healthy stuff.

I was actually planning on trying it out. xD
Yep, I've been going to the gym at least an hour every day. (weight training, treadmill, ball workouts) But, that's only been for 2 weeks. And since then I expected to see at least a few results..but I didn't. I guess I expect things too quickly because before all I had to do was do a few things around the house and I would lose 2 pounds a day lol. It's so much easier the bigger you are as I'm sure some of you know. Anyways, and when I'm not doing that I'm usually working at other things (remodeling --I hate it, cleaning, cutting grass, cleaning out the barn..blah blah blah) So I dunno what to do anymore.

But, I'll try varying my calories drastically. Thanks :)

Gadzooks,

You're right. Supposedly you get to eat almost a normal amount (minus fat and carbs). You just have to constantly eat the smelly soup :)
Personally, I like to make tomato-y cabbage soup.

I take water, add tomato paste/sauce/whatever it is xD, add cabbage, celery, carrots, onion, whatever.

It takes really good and I'd assume it wouldn't be that off?

Tell me how it goes if you end up trying it out. xD
if it works to break a plateau, then do it for a few days and then just go back to eating regular healthy foods. just don't use this as your main diet. i think my issue with this would be that i'd get sick of having to eat the soup all the time.

but i think you should try varying ur diet/calories and exercise first, keep this diet sort of like a last resort. i've heard cases where just changing up their exercise routine broke peoples' plateau.

you might lose a few lbs, but lose ALL your friends from farting all day! Cabbage soup is great, once in a while. But all these fad crash diets are ONE thing. Calorie restriction. Period.

There is no point to it,  as when you stop, the weight comes back. Just eat normal foods, but a LITTLE less, and exercise more.

Eventually your body will stop at  a healthy weight. I can't believe people would go for these severe calories restriction fad-diets, but they do.

I've lost lots of weight, eating totally healthily, but just a bit less calories. Its the laws of thermodynamics folks. Its physics.

Hi ,

I'm on my Cabbage diet on its 5th day , well I found I start to shedding weight on my 3rd day , and by the 5th day I did lose weight , but as every one says you will get back , but what I think is more important this diet give you sense of determination and encourages you to live without certain things that we eat even not needed . I used to think it was impossible to live without cup of tea and now been without english tea for the last 5 days . For me its a quick strat and gave me a great determination to get back to healthy diet and then on regular exercise in gym would certainly help me to control my weight in the future . So if you want a quick strat like I had could help you to lose ... I am not sure how much I would be able to lose at the end of my 7th day .

cheers

Honestly, the lack of variety in that diet will drive you crazy and make you gain more afterwards from the stuff you end up depriving yourself from.  Drink it once in a while, but don't live off of it.

I got off a plateau by eating all protein for a day.  My boss told me about it and I was very skeptical about it at first, but it knocked me off the plateau and I've been losing weight steadily ever since.  I ate so much chicken, beef and eggs I was totally sick of protein foods, but it definitely worked.  You only do this for 1 day though.  Try it and see if it works for you.
