Burning calories when not exercising?
I just have a questions on burning calories.. It says you have to burn more calories then you take in in order to use weight.. I just started the gym last week and I work out for about 45 mins.. I know I would probably burn 200 - 400 calories but not to sure.. Just wandering how do you burn the other calories.. Can you burn calories by sitting and doing other stuff..
The questions probably sounds stupid but I went into the activity log to see how many calories you burn by sitting and it said 166 is that true..
Thanks and enjoy your day!!!

3500 calories = a pound of fat. So, what you have to do to lose weight in a healthy manner is cut 3500 calories throughout your week (that's 500 a day). Try playing around with some of the Tools options, and find out your daily expenditure. Mine if I'm not working out at all is 1600. So, suppose I run and burn 300 calories. Now I've burned 1900 calories today. The maximum calories I want to consume for the day, then, is under 1400. And yes, the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in! This can be done by exercising or calorie cutting, or a combination of both (that means that you only really have to cut 250 calories a day if you're burning 250 at the gym).
But remember not to cut your calories too low -- or you'll slow your body down. It needs food to keep the metabolism up!
Hope this helps some :)

I have been walking since the first of Feb. I can tell that I'm walking longer and faster than when I started. Last week I changed my routine. I walk quickly for 20 min, do a round of weights for 15-20 mins and finish with 10 min walk. I have not lost anything, in fact I've gain a pound. I have been logging my food faithfully and trying extremly hard to stay within my calories. What am I doing wrong???? Right now I'm at 176 and would like to be 135-145 by September 1st.
Thank you for any help you may have

Helen I would guess that your gaining muscle.
I'm keeping my calories between 1200-1500. Working out a minimum of 4 days a week. I'm not going to give up!! I will keep working out and watching what I eat. Sooner or later I'll get there!!
Hey! I have a personal dietitian and this is what she told me (it makes
things easier to understand)..a 5'2" 19 year old female weighing 100
pounds (which is WAY too small anyways but this is the example
given)... needs 1,200 calories to just sit around all day and do
nothing. This is how it's broken down (scientifically)
-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)
thats based on a 1,200 calories diet for a 19 year old 5'2", 100 pound woman. Obviously its going to vary based on age, weight, sex... but i think that's really interesting! That's straight from my dietitian (a doctor)

Wow, that is amazing!
I know that in my head that it didn't take me over night to put the weight on, and it won't take over night to get it off. But I am really working hard at it. I am parking farther away when I go to the store. I work on the 3rd floor, and I've been taking the stairs everytime! And working out during my lunch.
I am so happy to have found this web site. It is great! People who have the same trouble I do with fighting weight loss.
Thank you very very much for any and all helpful tips and information you may have!!!!!!
