Hoodia Gordoni

Ok. I know I've seen a few threads here about diet pills. Basically everyone agrees that they probably are not very good for you. Which I agree with. Anyway, I did some research because I wanted to see if I could find something that would help take the edge off the hunger but not jack me up on caffine or make me jittery or risk my health.

Well, I stumbled across the Hoodia Gornodi product and decided to give it a shot considering it has no side effects and no caffine or any other additives. Hoodia Gordoni is a succulent that grows in the bush of South Africa and is classed as a supplement.

I started it when I started the diet which was a week ago. I take one 400mg supplement in the morning and another an hour before dinner for a total of 800mg/day. I have read that, to be effective, you need to take 750+ mg/day.

What did I notice? Nothing. Not at all. I wasn't super hungry but I thought I was just doing a good job eating right. I assumed it wasn't doing anything but decided that I would use up the bottle because it is expensive ($39 for 60 capsules) and see what happens at the end of thirty days.

Ok, fast forward to last night. Last night I was starving! I ate healthy and about the same as I have been but it wasn't enough. I added 2 cups of veggies and I was still hungry! So then I had a potato and the edge started to come off but I could've eaten more easily.

It was only then did I realize I did not take my afternoon dose! I took it then and I was fine for the rest of the night.

Point is, I am down to 1350 cals/day all week and with the hoodia it is pretty easy! I'm not saying I don't get hungry but it seems like I can control it easier and I don't have to eat as much to be satisfied.

I don't think it is a magical plant but I do believe it is curbing my hunger so I wanted to share my personal experience. If anyone else out there is using it I would love to hear your experience.

LMAO... Are you trying to sell us something?
maybe for men....I tried it and was an emotional wreck!!! stopped taking it and I was fine....took it again for a few days and hubby threw it away!  I couldnt stop crying, guess I lost water weight! LOL
I was reading last week about taking a teaspoon of powdered pectin as a natural diet aid. It's suppose to make you feel fuller. The powered stuff you add to fruit to make jams or jellys. The book said to mix it in your yogurt. I've never tried this and probably won't just thought of it when I was reading your note about diet pills.
how much fiber are you eating daily?  I average 30-40g/day.  the higher amt. of fiber you eat the fuller you feel.  fiber takes longer to digest and thus you have less problems with hunger.

legumes, raspberries, artichoke, pears, broccoli, bran, soy beans(edamame) are some examples of things with high fiber.

Is there a trader Joe's in your area?  they make a muffin by "zen" which has 13 fiber.  apple/cranberry is very moist, also there is a blueberry one also 13g/fiber.

drinl 8-10 glosses water daily as well, that combined with increased fiber should wipe out the hunger.  be sure you increase fiber slowly so your gut get used to it.  good luck.  I'd rather try natural means before I try medications for anything.

pocahotass - I just wanted to relate my experience. I thought it might help someone else. Just one person's opinion.
I took the hoodia gordoni and i broke out in zits. I said i was not going to try another weight loss pill. I found the Dexatrim Results to help with that over eating problems. They really work for me. I take one 15 to 30 mins before each meal to keep me from over eating. They work.

The hoodia gordoni not only gave me zits but bad head aches. I asked my doctor if i could take the dexatrim and he said it will be ok because i didn't have any health problems. I took them for a month and i went back to my doctor for a few test to see if it was affecting me in any way. They was not. I still take them before each meal. So far i have lost now 28 pounds I am now 187...

Before i started taking the pills i was holding at 200. I had lost so much weight before i started the group. I was 215 when i started my diet on Jan.2.06. I have around 49 more pounds to go i think.

My goal is to be 140. Hoodia could be good. But i don't know much about them or whos product is the best. I got mines at a local GNC store. They made me sick i didn't lose any weight with them and i was still hungry too.

Just check with your doctor there is something they can give you to help you with weight loss too if they think you need it..

Good Luck

Lynn
That's a good point. I found a lot of bottles out there where Hoodia was only one ingredient and usually less then the recommended dosage. The stuff I am talking about is pure hoodia with nothing else in it.
Ericwiz, it is good that your found a product for you. I think it is good that you found the pure stuff. I don't think i will try it again. It made me sick. I am not sure if i want to fight teenagers zits again. I never had them when i was coming up like that before. I mean they was all over my face. And is what you are taking is pure i sure don't want no cow size zits breaking out on me.

I think it is good that you have the good stuff.

I wish you the best of luck on your weight loss.

Men do lose faster than women they say.
Eric,

I too am trying the Hoodia after a friend of mine recommended it. I am using Desert Burn's version. It says it is pure Hoodia, but how do you know? Can I ask what version you are using that you are sure it is pure?

Patti
Lynn - I am glad you found something that works for you. That's really what it's all about and the more we share these experiences the more we can help others!

Patti - I guess what I mean by pure is that there is no other ingredients. Here is a link to the one I am taking: Hoodia Supreme

I looked at the Desert Burn product, in fact I was looking for that when I found the one I am taking now. They are both pure Hoodia Gordonii as far as I can tell.

My concern was products like H57 Hoodia, 10-Day Hoodia Diet, TrimSpa X32 etc because they contain other things like caffine and other things.  This was the stuff I wanted to stay away from! Also, these generaly don't have enough Hodia to begin with.

Eric...
Eric, I have to post this. I did take that H57 Hoodia.. Let me tell you all. Head aches and Zits..... I got that from GNC.. And you are right it is not pure.. If you got the good stuff go for it.. I am happy that it is working for you..

Patti, Please make sure it is ok with your doctor before you start taking any Diet aids..  I did and it was the best thing i ever done for myself. I am still going to have to see the doctor while i am on The DEXATRIM RESULTS.. 1 to see if i am not losing weight to fast. and 2. To make sure my health is still good.

I did a lot of diet pills and all of them did something it was not to do. One of them made me stay up all night.. That was stackers2

Another one made me gain. That was Relacore. I even took proplene.. That gave me bad heart burns. It was not that good. for 2 weeks i tried to eat food that would not give me gas just to see, and it was the pills..

The last pill i tried was DEXATRIM RESULTS. I am not looking for another diet pill ever..

Good luck to you all with your weight loss. I can say i am triming down with a smile.. :) And with out the trim spa baby.

Lynn
Stay away from HOODIA!

I took this stuff, and my doctor took me off of it just today.

I was having VERY severe headaches. I took the Hoodia imported from Africa (green bottle, came with certifcate and everything). It has jus about killed me. I broke out in hives. I thought I suddenly developed an allergy to my detergent, changed to a free and clear detergent...rewashed everything, rash got worse. Doctor said I was allergic to Hoodia. I told him impossible, because it advertises no adverse reactions or side effects. He told me they lied. You would not believe this rash, it has spread all over.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE HOODIA GORDONI UNLESS YOU CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST.

I work in an ER, I wasn't even smart enough to ask an ER doc here. I sure wish I had.
Although Hoodia may help some people, it is an endangered plant and, given the demand for it, you really don't know if the stuff you're taking is really the real stuff, do you?

Google on "placebo effect." Save your money. After a few days, your body gets used to living on a slight calorie deficit and the hunger pangs go away.
I take Relacore and it curbs the appetite also really helps with belly fat and I see results. I love it But let me tell you it mellows you out so dont overdo.. Its cheaper at Walmart.
I wish i had read this blog before i ordered this backed by operah hoodia xpf program, i figured why not try it, i have heard so many good things about it, the program i chose was for a free 14 days supply of it for only the shipping cost of 6.95 and if i do like it it will be 39.99 a month after,,if i dont i can cancell within the 14 days, ok i get the conformation letter of my order saying it could take 1 to 2 weeks for my order to arrive hummmm, ok so wont that be around the same time they will charge me for the months supply yet i havent even tried it?? We will see, if so then i will cancell and do my dieting  like i have been on my own, send back the pills after i take out 2 weeks worth i paid for!! Haaha- but basing my knowledge of the plant on a bunch of article i have read, copy and paste this addy to your browser if you need more info on the hoodia plant...just sounds so good,,but i guess that goes with the saying if it sounds to good to be true..........it usual is!!! But anyhow im crossing my fingers, i only wanted this as a help along with the 1300 cal diet im following, iv lost as of now in 2 weeks 12 lbs but tomorrow is my 3rd weigh in day so iv got my fingers crossed...good luck to everyone,,

Reason: activated link, removed link to buy hoodia, removed all caps as a courtesy :)
I really don't see the point for these "experience" with diet pills here.  I mean really we are all here to try to get healthy and try to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle the right way.

No one ever know what's in these diet pills and they are always passed through the FDA as "nutritional supplement."  Why?  It is because they don't do clinical trials and don't promise results.  If these things really are the "miracle pills,"  they wouldn't be within everyone's reach and would be a perscription medicine.
I saw a 20/20 type show about hoodia.  It's true that the bushmen really eat it and that wild hoodia does decrease appetite.  The problem is that the kind you are getting in the supplements is not wild hoodia, it's a mass produced hybrid that has only a smidgeon of it's wild counterpart's properties.  Me, I'm not going to pay a lot of money for a mass produced hybrid wannabe hoodia.  If I could get the real thing, maybe I'd try it, but it would still be no substitute for a healthy diet and daily exercise.
Hello! I am new here as well. (today actually)

I did Slim4Life 4 years ago... kept weight off until I got pregnant. (my son is 6 months old now & the weight is just not going away!) The 'magic pills' they had sure helped curb hunger. I am not spending that much money again to re-join since I have the eating plan to follow. But I needed to find my own 'magic pill' to help get me back on track.

I don't believe that diet pills are a "cure".

BUT they sure do help kick-start a diet & help get you used to eating less. (shrinking down my stomach maybe?)

This reply is about Hoodia. I just started to take it yesteray... only 2 pills. (the bottle recommends 4, & no more than 6 per day, and I'm starting with only 2 because it's soooo expensive!) I did a lot of research & found DesertBurn. It seemed to me to be one of the 'purest' out there. (OR they got me & I'm a sucker to spend more money!)

So, I'll let you know how I feel about it next week :) (I also take a chromium supplement as well)

I'm glad I found this community. There is no one way to lose weight that fits everyone; but bouncing ideas back & forth of what helps each individual sure helps to get new ideas :) When all else fails there may be just one more thing to try.

Optimistic about losing weight the 2nd time around, Stephanie

I just started taking hoodia today and I'm starving.  I took one 500mg this morning and two before lunch.  From the research I did I thought it was supposed to take my appetite away but it hasn't.  Will it still work if I eat a little to subside my hunger or is there a certain brand I should get?  Someone please respond - Thanks!!!!!

I use Hoodia to control hunger at times. It really does work, but it is veeeerrrrryyyy short term.

I think the expectations are what cause the disappointment. It doesn't stop you from eating, but it slows you down enough to make better choices.

I notice when I don't take it I make really bad decisions on food.

Also, I have seen an increase in acne as stated earlier, but not sure if its connected to the Hoodia or not.
