Just got my Polar F6... deflepfan16

and I don't know what to do =\ haha

There seems to be so many things to do on it, I don't know what I need to do before I exercise with it!

I have done the basic stuff, like the date, my age, height, weight, etc.  but I don't understand the little testing thing.  Like, in the book it says to walk for 1 minute, then speed up for 1 minute...do you know what I'm talking about? haha  I just don't know what that is for and why I should do it (and how to do it really)

I also heard somewhere that you can measure your resting heart rate with it and save it, but I don't see how to do that either!

Also, what's the deal with wetting part of the chest strap?  Do you have to before each workout?

Sorry, I'm SO bad at following those little instruction booklets..they don't make much sense to me =(

What should I be sure to do with it before I exercise?  Thanks for your help!

I have the Polar F4 so I can only answer the question about wetting the strap... yes, you do have to do it each time. Put a bit of water on your finger and rub it over the sensors on the strap. I didn't do it once and my watch didn't show my heart rate reading. I'd say it helps with the electrical conductivity.

Thank you for your reply =)  I thought that was odd that you had to do that, but it makes sense.

I have an F5 I think. Yours may be different.  I know what you mean, there are so many directions, it can be confusing.  I just played around with mine to figure it out.  When I want to start exercising, I push the button under "start" which is under the time display.  Then I think I have to push it a second time for it to actually start measuring.  When I am done I push stop and it stores the info for me.  The up and down buttons on the side display the different readings.

Come on -- read the instructions all the way through.  It won't hurt, I promise, you're a smart girlLaughing

I have an F11 so my functions are different, but the instruction manual is pretty comprehensive.

You might have to do more than just wet your finger with the chest straps, however -- I have to get mine pretty wet for it to read.

Good luck, you'll have fun with it

Thanks for the compliment coach but you may be giving me a little too much credit =P

I have read it all the way through, but it just seems like so much!  I think it would be a lot easier if I actually did it as I read instead of just reading it..I'll try in a little bit!

Thanks for the tips on the chest strap -- I was planning on just wetting my finger =)

But quick question, did you register your resting rate?  Did you do the little sample setup test thing to determine your best HR?

PS. I miss seein you around more, coach! haha

I'm gonna go do my first workout with it!  Wish me luck (I hope I burn as much as I used to think..I'm a little nervous about that =P)

Well, I must say this is the beginning of a love/hate relationship!

Love:

- Motivates me to push harder to see a bigger calorie burn
- Gives me something to think about besides my tiredness
- Tells me how many calories I'm really burning

Hate:

- Not burning as much as I was hoping =(  In 1 hour of intervals wearing weighted gloves and using a stability ball I only burned 370.
