The Universe is Sabotaging Me!

Quote  |  Reply

I had been on my stationary bike yesterday for about half and hour and just pedaling along... feeling pretty good, going about twelve miles an hour, minding my own business... when out of the blue the bike literally falls apart!  My pedal popped off and the seat screws all fell out at the same time.  I got dumped out of the seat and poof, there goes my workout.

It's not like I put this bike together just yesterday either.  I've had it for two years and it's never given me a speck of trouble--until now.  I'm lucky I fell to the left and not the right, or else I would have fallen onto my weights instead of the carpet.

So, any tips on checking equipment before using it?  I usually give it a once-over but that doesn't seem to be enough.  I don't want the same thing to happen on my elliptical and get a broken leg or something. :)

I feel like the universe is sabotaging me too.  I went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got back I got a cold for about 2 weeks. Just when I was feeling better to work out - I got some sort of 72 hour stomach bug.   So a week ago I'm finally back to running, although a bit slow from having missed over a month, and I tweeked my knee a bit. No problem - I'll swim laps at the pool.  The other night I pulled a muscle in my neck and now it kills me to just turn my head.  Goodness, I just want to work out.

Today I'm going to walk 2 miles and see how the knee feels. Wish me luck.

well you're not supposed to turn your head you're supposed to turn your body when you breath while swimming freestyle.  ok, so i exaggerated, you're supposed to turn your head so it's like youre trying to put your chin in your armpit, but mostly you should be turning your body.

i think its the universe testing you, asking you "oh yeah, you like to exercise, eh? well exactly how much do you want to exercise?" and whenever things like that happen to me, which they do, it gives me reason & motivation to workout while i can.

Good luck!  It's insane, isn't it, the way the cosmos doesn't want us to lose weight.

Nah, it's just trying to tell you to stop doing cardio and lift stuff instead :-P
melkor - you sound just like my college swim coaches.  I 've always hated lifting and they were always on my case about it.  Wait a minute - COACH - Is that you?   ; )       &n bsp;  hehe.....

My 2 miles went suprisingly well.  I think I'll try to get back to the park and walk another 2 tonight.    I will not let the cosmos win - I will exercise.

Hah!  Lifting stuff is boring.  :)  CARDIO ROOLZ!

Lifting weights raises your BMR.  It's not drastic but it does.
