Probiotics in Yogurt? c_jamie
  Jul 25 2008 03:20
I don't purchase Activia or Biobest, etc with the added probiotics.

However I am a regular consumer of the sugar-free yogurts (ie. silhouette, astro, etc - theyre cheaper as well). I'm wondering if there are still probiotics (good bacteria) in these yogurts as well? Would I be enjoying some of the probiotic benefits as well... or do I need to buy yogurts with advertised probiotics added?

I buy astro balkan 6% yogurt.  It has probiotics in it, so does sour cream.

I either buy Kefir (kind of like a liquid yogurt) or probiotics made by UAS in the brown jar in the refridgerated section.

Watch the ingredients in the sugar free stuff. There's probably aspartame or some sort of chemical sweetner. A quick internet search shows the controversy.

Best of luck with the yogurt!

All the foods you eat contribute to the bacteria content of your gut.   If the yoghurt you buy has 'active cultures' or is described as 'live' then it contains probiotics.  If it is pasteurised or heat-treated, it doesn't.
