Waist measurements are confusing me

Quote  |  Reply
I think I might be doing something wrong. I'm 5 feet even, about 120, with a medium/large frame. Bust about 34 inches, hips 36, and natural waist about 29 (althought it's more like 31 around the bellybutton). I normally fit into a 2/4. My confusion is this- what's with my chunky belly?! And why does it allow me to wear a size 2/4? I mean, if you look at fit guides online, must places tell you that you need a 25 inch waist or so for a size 4. Do you think I'm measuring incorrectly? And IS my waist overly chunky for my size? :-P Thanks.

Sizes have increased over the years so what was a 4 a while ago, is not a 4 now, more marketed as a 2. Thats why people are always mistaken when they bring up the argument that Marilyn Monroe was a 12. So thats one possibility that the places youre looking at fit guides for are out dated, many stores also run large or small. So while you may fit in a 4 in some stores, other stores you may need anywhere as large as an 8.

Im not sure if youre talking about jeans, or dresses but if youre talking about pants sizes, many times (especially if you're younger...im not sure of your age) we dont wear our pants at our waist so waist size doesnt contribute, the hips do.

But your waist measurement is perfectly  healthy and you shouldnt fret
