I thought about buying some, but don't know anything about it. I'm always cautious with fish. Is it better than tuna or simular? Does it have to be cooked or can it be eaten right out of the can? Does it have a high mercury content? What's the best brand?

Mackerel and tuna are both good oily fish in their own right.  Mackerel has a different texture and a stronger flavour to tuna.  All canned fish can be eaten out of the can because it is cooked during the canning process.  The advice on mercury varies from country to country.

I like mackerel because it's cheaper and tastier than tuna :) You can get a 16-ounce can of it here in central PA for under a dollar at Wally World!

I eat peppered smoked mackerel.  It's sold in a sort of vacuum package, and is found in the chilled cabinet.  It's delicious, it's so good for you, it's a natural source of the good type of fatty acids, and is a great protein source.  I have never tried canned mackerel, but mackerel is delicious fresh or smoked.  It's got a really nice strong flavour.

Hmm, Now I'm probably going to get some now. The peppered sounds tasty. Thanks for posting.

I love mackrel, salmon, and halibut, too.  If it swims in the sea....  YUM!!!  See if you can't find some in the seafood case.  It's soooooo much better fresh.
