I ordered subway for the first time today and I didn't know that they automatically put in mayo in your sandwich! I hate the stuff, plus the fact that it's unhealthy makes me feel that it's a total waste of calories. Well, when I got my sandwich I totally flipped out in front of my coworkers and proceeded to take as much as it out of my sandwich via napkins as possible. Now that I've calmed down a bit, I see how ridiculous I acted, but I was just wondering if this means that I am developing an ED?
edit: okay, so I just looked up subway mayo and found that it only has 2g of saturated fat per 12g of fat. I guess it's not as unhealthy as I thought...phew!
not really, unless you do this often to other foods too.. and are doing it because mayo is high calorie and you are constantly preoccupied with food, calories, weight, and the likes...
mayo in moderation is actually not bad for you.. in fact if it is the real stuff it is an excellent source of good omega3 fats
i've seen many people freak out about food like that too (I'm a server at Denny's) and I have had people order me to take a sandwich back because it had a TOMATO SLICE on it, and they didnt like tomato's! Like wtf just pick that single slice of tomato off!! Unless you are deadly allergic (which usually their not) you shouldn't be complaining.. this makes cooks very angry, just a heads up.
i dunno, but there is a difference between not liking types of food and having an eating disorder.
They should not have put mayo on it automatically, unless it's tuna or seafood; they should have asked. I would have done the same thing you did - I HATE mayo.
I used to work at Subway many, MANY years ago, and we always asked before putting any condiment on.
I would complain to the Subway manager. That's not an ED thing; that was simply poor customer service.
^^
that is true.
I have never been to a subway that automatically puts mayo on... unless it is listed as the ingredients in one of their special subs.. ex: a chicken ranch sub will obviously have ranch dressing on it
next time make sure they listen to what you reguest.. nothing more, nothing less
If my sandwich had a condiment on it (without requesting it or it being listed on the menu) that I despised, I'd be upset as well.
Were you more upset about the fact that it was something that you despise or was it because mayo is typically high in calories?
Anyhow, here is a questionnaire that you can take if you are concerned about disordered eating:

A little bit of both? I was more concerned about the fact that I consumed something high in sat. fats that was something I didn't like, which would have wasted my cals that I would ahve spent on the dessert I was going to have tonight. However, now that I realize that there are quite a few more healthy fats in it than I originally thought, I'm not as disturbed. If that makes any sense to you xD

Amen!! I've seen this happen many times in restaurants- if its a sauce fair enough- but lettuce, or pickle, or tomato- get over yourself!! Pick it off & quit being an ass! LOL!
They shouldn't have automatically put it on (unless as carmenxox saidn its part of a special sub?)- you could've been allergic to it!

OK, I have to stand up for us raw-tomato-haters! =D When you don't like something, you don't like something. I spent a few weeks as a kid making myself eat sandwiches with tomatoes on them because everyone else in my family liked them and it seemed to be such a pain for people to NOT put a tomato on my sandwich. Guess what conclusion I came to? I hate raw tomatoes and I will never learn to like them, and life is too short to eat something you don't like. Taking a tomato or pickle off a sandwich isn't like taking off a piece of lettuce. They are juicy, and the juice seeps into the bread, and if you don't like tomatoes or pickles, you certainly don't want to eat a sandwich with tomato juiced bread. If it's cherry tomatoes, I'm more than willing to pick them out of my salad (like I do at Chick-Fil-A) but I'm more than a little annoyed if I order a salad with no tomatoes at a restaurant and then have to pick tomato seeds and wipe tomato juice off my lettuce. The tip suffers, I assure you. If it's a sandwich and the juice has hit the bread, I send the sandwich back, and yes, I check the bread when they bring it back to make sure they didn't just take off the tomato.

Okay, fair enough! I never thought of the juice- I was referring to when someone doesn't say to leave off the tomato/pickle etc. then throws a wobbly when it arrives! I'd be pi**ed off if I specifically asked for something to be left off and it still came on the item- and yes, the tip would suffer! LOL!

Exactly with the mayo! It seeps into the bread and onto the lettuce, and isn't easy to take off =/

ouch... usually it is not the server's fault though, but a misread bill in the kitchen... aka the cooks fault! lol, so before assuming someone is a bad server pay attention at how they react to your complaint.. was it their error? or someone elses?
i've had customers even be like "oh, there's tomato on this?" and i'm like "um, yes..." then they'll be like "oh, if i knew that then i would of asked for no tomato"... usually i offer to get them a new one, but often times they wont even bother, suck it up and take whatever it is off... within reason though... surely sauces, and seasonings are a little more tricky to get rid of.
i understand where you are coming from with the 'juicyness' part, but if the food is fresh and has not been sitting around for a while then not much juice should of been absorbed.
oh, oh, get this... another annoying customer complaint: "can i get a new coffee? this one is cold" ... the irony? >>the coffee had been sitting in front of them untouched for the last 10mins, of coarse it is cold! it's not MAGIC COFFEE, it loses heat the moment it is poured into the cup..
yes fine whatever, i'll get you a new coffee... just drink it when it's hot this time! don't be such a dumb ass! uggghhh!! haha

PMSL!! Not a good career choice for someone with intolerence issues (i.e. can't deal with stupidity! Like me sometimes! LOL!)![]()
Something similar happened to me two days ago. I ordered a chicken and peppers sandwich. I had scanned to ingredients and asked not to have tomato put on the sandwich. When I picked up the sandwich from the counter it was slathered in guacamole and sour cream. Neither item was on the list of ingredients! Checking my receipt, I noticed that the cashier had rung up the regular chicken sandwich instead of the "chicken and peppers".
I had already waited a while for the sandwich, so I just scraped off the sour cream and ate the sandwich. I hated to waste so many calories on guac when I don't even like the stuff, but it was going to be impossible to get off.
I did not walk away from that experience concerned that I had an eating disorder. The thought didn't even cross my mind. The fact that you are concerned about that is a more telling sign, to me, than the story about the mayo.

well, at least in the reastauraunt i work in, the servers tip the kitchen. so less money for the servers i guess means less money for the cooks. just sayin.
Well, in general, though, after I lost my period several months before I have started to freak out about having an ED...since the loss of period is supposed to be a symptom of being anorexic. But of course, I don't like the idea of having an ED, but sometimes I feel like I do have it since I am really concerned about the amount of calories and amount of fat I intake now (trying to eat at least 30% of fat each day to get my period back and trying to eat a little under maintenance because I'm terrible at estimating xD).
edit: by the way, I found this article: http://seniorhealth.about.com/od/arthritis/a/ diet_unhealthy.htm and feel a bit better about the obsessiveness :O Still a bit worried about my missing period though...
If you haven't had a period for several months I would go and speak to your doctor asap. That's a bigger concern than the mayo. @__@ You're right to be increasing your healthy fat intake a little, though, but still speak to a GP.
