75 Calories 0 fat grams
I was just wondering what everyone thinks about these. I eat them alot because they taste great with half the calories and 0 fat compared to the regular chips. Is Olestra Bad? thanks
I don't eat food that comes with a warning label.
Consuming a lot of food with Olestra (say, mini to major binges in short time periods) can lead to Anal Leakage. It may inhibit the absorption of some nutrients and it is considered an additive.
I have eaten chips (pringles) with Olestra, but I wouldnt make it my new "go-to" snack.
Stick to things that are natural. Rule of thumb-foods that are marketed as "low fat" and "low cal" are not natural lol and its up to consumers to decide whether or not to be a human guiney pig to these chemically enhanced packaged goods!
They actually taste pretty good....they leave a weird film in your mouth though. I much prefer Sunchips!
I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I saw them last year. I love potato chips. Like K-loo said though, they leave a weird film in the mouth. I couldn't get past that and opt to go with the regular chips if I have a taste for chips. Another thing I'll pick at times is baked chips.
BUT, for the most part I mostly stick with pretzels and popcorn to get my crunchy/salty fix and have chips when these things don't quite fit the bill.
For me, the warning on the back of the label was true. Soooo I stay away from them.
To me they taste just the same as regular, so i'd eat them if they didn't make me sick.
For some reason I have never had a problem with any Olestra containing chips, even back in the 90's when they were WOW chips never had any leakage or any other mentioned side effects.
I don't eat chips all that often, maybe 3-4X a month, I like the Pringles FF ones b/c they are easier to portion control and know exactly what a serving is (15 chips for 70 calories)
LOL, forgive me for the graphic post but I just HAVE to share. I also think they taste good, BUT...
I've got IBS-C and there have been times when I've gone 2 weeks without a bowel movement. When this happens, nothing works. I can take Miralax 3 times a day and it will be 4 days before anything moves. Enemas don't work.
And it was after just such an episode (3 days without a bowel movement) that I ate a single serving of Lays Light Potato Chips (which is about 20 chips) and it wasn't a half hour after finishing the last chip that things started to move. (Mind you I had NOT taken Miralax this time, hadn't tried anything yet). And when they moved, they moved.
Needless to say this decided it for me. If I NEED chips then I'll go for Lays original, those are my all time favorites (those and Funyuns). Otherwise, I'll stick to popcorn. If I need a laxative, I'll follow Dr's orders.
Safiyah
I love them too!! I never got the film or the leaky rectum, but everyone is different. I don't eat them all the time, only for those times when I am craving chips.

lmao.
Once shared a small bag w/ my husband. We both had indigestion. Bleh.
Safiyah..I feel your pain. Had the same situation..also jelly belly sugar free jelly beans..ooh that was bad!! Stick to more natural products.
you got my point...
I had a bunch of Pringles fat free chips with Olestra once - with the misguided impression that it was okay to eat as many as I want since they were fat free.
Well - my intestines wound up paying for it later. Maybe if I had a normal portion size it wouldn't have been so bad, but I'm not motivated to try them again.
If I want potato chips, I get the real thing now, and work it into my cals for the day. (but not very often because of the sodium).
