| Ok, so I treated myself to a Polar F55. I'm still getting used to working it, but I decided to wear it for 24 hours (chest strap included) to see how many calories I burn on a typical day without exercise.
My results said that I burn 2755cals in 24 hours, and I am just wondering how accurate this is, because according to other sites including this one - my sedetary level calculation has always been under 1900cals. My second question, is that if this accurate am I in starvation mode and how long can I expect before I can speed up my metablism?? Relevant Information

Well you have to bare in mind sedetary is usually class'ed as pretty much bed bound, you have a "inactive" job but even at a desk you are still moving around all the time, infact i bet if you could actually watch yourself you'd be quite suprised to see how often you do move ... truely sedentary people don't make coffee, dinner, go the bathroom... there is ton's of stuff i bet your not counting into your daily life. I have a desk job but count my activity level as "light" to take into account day to day activity's like making food, then i add actual exercise on top of that. so tbh i wouldn't be too suprised if 2755 wasn't too far from the real figure.

Thats very true Leiela, but then, I am obviously in starvation mode and have been for quite some time.
I am trying hard to up my calories, but today I am having a very hard time. Yesterday I ended up going to lunch with relations, with with little in the line of a healthy menu, and then ended up eating a choc muffin that my boyfriend bought for me. I ended up eating about 2400 cals yesterday. Today, I will end up under eating (not on purpose). My stomach was very sensitive this morning, and I ended up skipping my protein (egg whites on toast) and had to try eat my porride on the way to work!! the rest of the day has been fairly normal, although I will probably be lacking in some protein again for lunch. |

Had you already done the stuff on the HRM for your resting heart rate? That's important. And that might change it. And all your info was entered, correct? |

Working out how much to eat on a daily basis is REALLY HARD, one thing i've found is that all the calculation's from all the diet calc's on the web can't really tell me how much i should eat to lose. I've yo-yo'ed from anything from 1,200 - 2,000 cals a day in an effort to make the weight move and yet in several months of dieting and exercise i've still hovering pretty much where i was when i started. GRANTED my general body composition is much much improved, so i can't be to upset i've gain myself some muscle and my body fat has gone down so im blatently getting somewhere. However after 2 weeks eating 1,200 ... and still not losing a flipping pound, im starting again from scratch, using a tried and tested method figure competitors use .... eat maintanence for several weeks to make sure you body's metabalism is functioning as it should be ... then cut 100 cals a week till the wieght moves at a respectable speed .... simple. |

Danibelle, yes I inputted all my info correctly & had to to a test thingy (just sit for 3-5 mins, presumebly so it could get an accurate resting heart rate from me)
Leiela, was thinking of just upping my cals to 1700. Was thinking about that maintence idea but dont think I could eat 2,755cals a day - I mean I am stuggeling to eat 1400 as it is!!!! |

HRM are not designed to be worn all day for calorie counts. I believe the Body Bugg is the only contraption designed for that. HRM are meant for workouts only. I doubt a young person of your age and height will burn that many cals in a day - I also would say go with sedentary ( its not bed ridden) and then just add your workouts as extra If you are stuck yes you could be in starvation mode, but you could also just be on a plateau. I would suggest increasing your calories for a few days and see how it goes. Sometimes just changing what you are eating will help. And to really increase the cals fast is peanut butter. |
