I just tried Kefir for the first time. I finally got used to plain yogurt so plain Kefir wasn't too sour for me. I blended it with some frozen raspberries & agave nectar so it was nice!
Does anyone have any other interesting ideas for kefir?

I know you can make your own by mixing up some yogurt, salt, and fresh lemon juice, then letting it drain through a cheesecloth into a bowl in the fridge for a couple days.
You can do anything with it that you'd do to cream cheese. I would add fresh herbs, even nuts and honey. There are many possibilities.
Cream cheese? But it's pretty liquidy.

You can do anything with it that you'd do with cream cheese, as I gave examples above. Its not cream cheese. Its Kefir.
Oh, I know. I thought you meant you could make a cream cheese spread out of it, which didn't make any sense to me. I get it.

Oh, no I was saying that is how you make kefir from yogurt.
I use it in my morning cereal - it's more liquid than yogurt, but it does not make the cereal soggy like milk. Because it's more sour than yogurt, I use it with sweeter fruit like mangoes or grapes. Some of my favorite combinations are:
* Shredded spoonfuls with blueberries, kiwi and strawberries
* Trader Joe's high fiber cereal with mangoes, blueberries and rasberries.
Try adding some mint and lemon/orange zest and cinnamon and you have a glorious breakfast!

I think you're thinking of quark, which has a similar taste to kefir, but is much more solid (like cream cheese or stiff sour cream). All the kefir I've ever had has been more of a smoothie consistency.

what exactly is it?
It's a fermented milk drink. The plain kind tastes like plain yogurt but a little more sour and more watery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefir
Umm.. lippygal, i dont think you can make your own kefir out of yogurt salt and lemon juice.. Kefir is made from kefir grains and is so much better, probiotic wise, than yogurt.
