Calories listed on menu boards, how say you?

New York City passed this law a few months ago and restaurants are beginning to follow suit. Basically, any chain with more than 10 outlets must post the calorie counts of all its items next to the item itself in the same font. The Health Board says its because people underestimate the calorie content of these foods and this will help them make better choices. The Restaurant Association claims that it makes the boards too cluttered (laughable) and that the information is on the company's website for people who want to know.

Interestingly, due to the over 10 outlet requirement, this law only affects fast food chains. This law sets a precedent in that other cities and possibly states and provinces may pass their own laws to add calorie counts to menus. I believe its only a matter of time.

Is this a good thing in your eyes? Do you think people will reconsider their choices when they see the actual calorie counts of their favourite fast foods? Or do you think people will simply ignore it because their love of this food is stronger?
